1 Gbit/s Ethernet NIC under CentOS
Hello listmates, As some of you may know we have been having a really bad problem with Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 cards. See here for details: http://forum.nginx.org/read.php?24,140124,140224 So now my question is, what PCI 1 Gbit/s Ethernet adapters should I use under CentOS? If you have had a consistent positive experience with any particular chipset/brand please speak up.

OpenVPN routing question
Hello all, Let's say I have an OpenVPN (v2) server sitting on a Linux machine with the IP address of, say, 192.168.10.1o. We are talking real address, assigned to a NIC on the machine. Now let us say the OpenVPN server hands out IP's in the 192.168.20.0/24range. And let us say that I want the machines able to reach the VPN server to be able to route to the machines available via the VPN.

problems with OpenVPN 2.1.4 on Centos 5.5
Hello listmates, I've got this Centos 5.5 box which I am trying to configure as an OpenVPN server. Now 2.1.4 seems to have added pkcs11 support and that stops me from creating the CA and other necessary files: [root at gw5fl 2.0]# . ./vars bash: /usr/share/doc/openvpn-2.1.4/easy-rsa/2.0/whichopensslcnf: Permission denied NOTE: If you run ./clean-all, I will be doing a rm -rf on

How to improve the throughput
Dear I am very new to tinc and would like to ask any advice regarding tinc's throughput. I have been using OpenVPN for several years and found tinc as a simpler/scaler VPN using TUN/TAP device. I have tried to use tinc on WindowsXP and measured throughput in contrast to OpenVPN. My test revealed that tinc is faster in PING response (almost half of OpenVPN). However, when I tested with

OpenVPN routing
Hi! I''m trying to create a routed VPN using OpenVPN - and having trouble with the routing concepts involved. Let me see if I can properly describe my current topology: Server - LAN, with both local workstations and remote bridged workstations on the 192.168.0.0/24 network (this works without reservation). Server located at 192.168.0.71, 192.168.0.72, 192.168.0.222, and few

how many people still use NIS?
Hello listmates, I have discovered a very strange SFTP problem which I can not connect to anything but NIS thus far. See here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-server-73/sftp-seems-to-fail-for-nis-accounts-under-openssh-5-x-816020/ http://readlist.com/lists/suse.com/suse-linux-e/38/193419.html Hence the question: is NIS (YP) still in use much anywhere for authentication? Thanks.

Network browsing with through OpenVPN
Hi all, I have succesfully joined together three LANs using OpenVPN over Linux (Debian) gateways at the 'exit' of each one of these LANs. The VPN seems to be OK, as I can ping network hosts from one LAN to another using their private IP addresses with no problem at all. However network browsing through the VPN is not working. The network diagram for my setup is at

asterisk and openvpn and sip
Hi all, I'm trying to connect one phone to a remote asterisk server via openvpn. First of all, I put the vpn server on the box hosting asterisk and the vpn client on another box, both with public ips. Then I set the client ip as my phone IP gateway and the remote pbx ip as the registrar and outbound proxy. I see in the phone log register packets are sent but nothing in return. Asterisk

CentOS in low RAM settings
Hello listmates, I have been playing with Xen VM's and was wondering what the minimum RAM size in which you could run CentOS 5.5 (i386). So far I managed to install in 256 MB or 512 MB and then shrink the VM's RAM to 128 MB and still run the installation. Would anyone know why the install in a 128 MB VM fails (even in text mode)? Thanks. Boris.

Asterisk 1.6 and OpenVPN RTP problem
Hello All, I have installed Asterisk 1.6 with openVPN in the same machine. I have set up a VPN connection between 2 SIP clients and Asterisk using x-lite. The 2 clients connects to Asterisk. SIP signaling goes ok over the vpn tunnel. When attempting to make a call between the clients, the siganling part of the call goes well. But, when the call is set up, some RTP packets are exchanged at

editing bind (DNS) configuration under CentOS 6
Hello listmates, It appears that system-config-bind has been phased out. Whatever the reasoning was behind that decision - what are we expected to do now? Edit it manually? That is doable, of course, but kind of cumbersome. Does anybody know if there is a tool we are expected to use for that purpose? Thanks. Boris.

Problem with trafic shapping and openvpn
I''m using shorewall with openvpn and traffic shaping at all of our offices. I have noticed for a while that occasionally ping times are excessive. Usually this is during overnight off site backups but some times during the day. I have assumed the is was an ISP issue but now I''m suspecting it''s problem with openvpn and traffic shaping. In the test case have 2 sites

CentOS 5.5/i386/32-bit CD installation hickups
Hello listmates, I've got a few older 32-bit PC's that only have a CD drive (no DVD). So I downloaded all the ISO's and I thought I'd install CentOS 5.5 on this 1.25 GB P-3 (I think, don't remember what CPU it's got right off hand, not that it should matter). So I tried it there, got a fatal exception. OK, no problem - thinking that maybe something was wrong with that

a peculiar LVM failure on CentOS 6 run as a VMware 5.5 guest
Hello listmates, I have encountered a rather peculiar situation. We have a Centos 6 VM (64 bit) running on a VMware vSphere 5.5 server. It was running just fine until one day I decided to reboot it and it just would not boot up. Effectively, dracut failed to initialize the LVM, much like under the scenario described here:
