What are the advantages of upgrading from 5.6 to 6?
I've just installed CentOS 5.6. What would I get if I upgraded to 6? Would I have to reinstall all applications or could I just restore my /etc and /usr directories and do an update? OT: Dropbox - Fedora Core 9 RPM will work on CentOS 5.4?
Dropbox has an RPM for Fedora Core 9 (x86). I am running CentOS 5.4 on my Desktop, which I believe is based on Fedora Core 6. Are the libraries Fedora Core 9 uses substantially different than those CentOS 5.4 uses? If Dropbox had an SRPM available, I would Download that and Rebuild, but I'm sure it is Proprietary and they won't release an SRPM to me. TIA! Lanny

Local root vulnerability in udev
I just saw this thread in the OLM forum. Possibly of interest, since they say it includes CentOS 5, if the update hasn't been released yet. Always good to keep boxes updated, for security and stability reasons. <http://forums.olm.net/showthread.php?t=2137>

OT: Photo Editor to reduce 272 photos to VGA at once
I returned from Bogot? and have a Folder with 272 photos that total 419.9 MB. I would like to email them to several people who were there for the concerts I attended. I have Picasa, gThumb (not really an Editor but I believe it can reduce the quality of photos) and The GIMP installed. Is there a way I can have a photo editor reduce all of them to VGA size, without doing that 272 times? The people

/etc/X11/xorg.conf question
If I use "system-config-display" or "system-config-display --reconfig" although I get a message that I need to log out of GNOME, to have the new file written, for new Display Resolution, logging out or restarting the box does not result in the new settings for the Display taking hold. Sometimes, the number of colors is updated, but *never* the Resolution. Below is my xorg.conf

Recycle Bin disappeared (GNOME, CentOS 5.5, 32 bit)
Probably this is due to operator error, The Recycle Bin in GNOME disappeared, for this CentOS 5.5 (32 bit) Desktop PC. The box is fully updated. Is there a command I can use, or another procedure, to get the Recycle Bin in GNOME working again? The .trash folder is there. Incredibly rare that I use the KDE Desktop, but it is also installed on this box and the Trash folder (like the Recycle Bin

sFTP (client) RPM for CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) and/or putty-tools
I installed gFTP but apparently it does not handle the sFTP protocol. I also installed the FireFTP Add On for the Firefox browser, but when I tried to connect to the server, it says that I need putty-tools. I have the rpmforge and epel repositories configured but yum did not find putty-tools. Is there an RPM for a client program for gFTP or putty-tools? If so, in which repository? TIA! 1443

OT: free DNS service?
I have been using a free DNS service for the past seven (7) years. This morning, at 4 A.M., , I changed the "A" record for one of my web sites, to point to an IP address on a different server, so I could test. After watching the TTL count down from 3600 to zero, with the "dig" command, it then reset to 3600, but still resolved to the original IP address. :-) I set the

GNOME + Firefox - Mouse froze - what key combination to revive?
Earlier, I was using GNOME and Firefox and the Mouse died. I had to kill the power, to get the box going again, because it doesn't have a reset switch; which is *not* an elegant way to get going. What key combination would get me going or to a shell? CentOS 5, fully updated, 32 bit. TIA!
