Samba/Unix password sync with LDAP backend
I have been using Samba+Linux+openLDAP. The password synchronization
between the Samba and Unix accounts works well with the use of the "ldap
passwd sync" parameter in smb.conf.
Now I am in the process of installing my first server using CentOS/Red
Hat/389 Directory Server and this does not work in the same way. It
seems that some additional software must be installed in each

LDAP Mail Notice
Hi, all :
I have a thought of writing the script to implement the LDAP mail
notice recently.
That's to say , after creating the new account and his passwd , then how to
send an E-mail to notice him?
By the way , I used the LDAP tool called 389 LDAP or openldap recently .
Could someone give me some suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.....

Hi there guys, do not know if post this here or in openldap list, sorry if I

I configured samba+ldap as a PDC and byt now it's working fine, so, I

The problem is that I coudl not make it work, here I what I've done.
This is what netstat shows.

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:636 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

NSS ldap problems
I'm having trouble setting up ldap based authenication.
I have a virtual (KVM) CentOS 5.4 box set up to authenticate to a 389 (fedora) directory server, and that works fine.
However, I set up a virtual box running CentOS 6, and I can't get it to authenicate.
I've run authconfig with the appropriate flags, ldapsearch properly finds the data, but I can't log in. /var/log/secure

Best way to sync Samba AD 4 LDAP with OpenLDAP
Hello all,
At this moment we are still using Samba 3 for our Windows clients but we are in need for an Active directory. So the best solution for us looks like migrating to Samba 4 AD.
But... we have a very robust OpenLDAP setup that we want to use for our default user administration and don't want to give this up.
We really would like to syncing information from and to Samba LDAP but my

I'm using samba 3.0.14a + openldap .2.27 on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE.
I followed the "Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto" from IDEALX.
My slapd.conf rootdn is cn=ldapmgr,ou=Managers,o=miage
My smb.conf ldap admin dn is cn=sambamgr,ou=Managers,o=miage
With the ACLs from section 5 (Security considerations) of the Howto

Samba 4 LDAP/LDB search speed
Hi list,
we're in the process of converting our Samba 3 / OpenLDAP systems to Samba4.
Since these machines also run applications (Postfix, Zarafa) that
retrieve their information from LDAP, performance of the LDAP server is
quite important to us.
While testing, it seems that the S4 LDAP server is a lot slower than
OpenLDAP. So, I would like to ask two questions:
1. What is the

Samba 3.0 + LDAP userPassword -> sambaNTPassword manual sync?
First, the software:
Samba 3.0.0
OpenLDAP 2.0.27
nssldap / pam_ldap
Redhat 9
This may be more of a question for the OpenLDAP mailing list.. but does
anyone know of a method (perhaps using slappasswd?) to hand-sync userPassword
attributes to sambaNTPassword attributes?
Deploying Samba 3.0 as pdc pretty soon, used Migration Tools on the mail
server soon, and I'd really like to be able to tell

Samba AD PDC , LDAP and Single-Sign-On (was: re: Samba Internal DNS vs. BIND_DLZ)
I'm very confused. I have a Samba4 AD/DC which works great for Windows
Authentication with our Windows 7 workstations.
Now, I am trying to implement single-sign-on for our coming-soon Linux workstations.
All web documentation I've so far found on this references OpenLDAP as the server
and describes server-side commands such as kadmin and slapd-config to get things
set up on the

FW: making BDC samba + ldap server
Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4?
If samba 3, which ldap server are you using>
What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server
included it or is also using an external LDAP server.
If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type
of LDAP server (e.g. OpenLDAP or Apache Directory Server or Oracle Directory
Server.) If you have one
