Is ext4 safe for a production server?
I am about to install a new server running CentOS 5.4. The server will contain pretty critical data that we can't afford to corrupt. I would like to benefit from the extra speed and features of a ext4 filesystem but I don't have any experience with it. Is there some member of the list who can enlighten me on whether ext4 is mature enough to be used on a production server without too

Is EXT4 filesystem production ready in CenTOS 5.x series?
Hi Guys, We run CENTOS 5.8 in some of our servers. We would like to know whether EXT4 filesystem is ready for production use in CENTOS 5.8 OS? We couldn't find ext4 utility mkfs.ext4 in our CENTOS 5.8 servers. Can anyone help us?

Safe to run migration on live/production server?
I have an old mbox formatted INBOX and folders that need to be converted to a Maildir. Can I run the dsync command when the server is live and Dovecot LMTP is delivering new mails to the same user? Will it be able to preserve UIDs and not confuse any indexes? I started the job with deliveries disabled so the conversion could complete, but it's taking too long. I want to know if I can

ext4 mount fails with "resize inode not valid" after a reboot
With kernel 2.6.30-rc2-git6 and prior I am having problems mounting ext4 partitions after reboot. A successful mount looks like this: /dev/cciss/c0d0p8 on /squid-cache0 type ext4 (rw,noexec,nodev,noatime,data=writeback,errors=panic) /dev/cciss/c0d0p9 on /squid-cache1 type ext4 (rw,noexec,nodev,noatime,data=writeback,errors=panic) /dev/cciss/c0d0p10 on /squid-data type ext4

EXT4 mount issue
Hi All, When a couple of EXT4 filesystems are mounted in a server I get the message Oct 1 18:49:42 sraid3 kernel: EXT4-fs (sdb): mounted filesystem without journal Oct 1 18:49:42 sraid3 kernel: EXT4-fs (sdc): mounted filesystem without journal in the system logs. My confusion is why are they mounted without a journal? They were both created with mkfs -t ext4 /dev/sdb mkfs -t ext4

Ext4 mess .... and EXT4-fs error (device sdc): ext4_mb_generate_buddy
Hi, I'm faced with a very strange behaviour: Centos 6.5 server, Hardware ISCSI HBA from Emulex OneConnect, most recent drivers and firmware from emulex installed. Directly attached a 10G ISCSI Storage from QSan. Two Raid volumes, Raid 5, 8 Disks each at 2 TB so 14 TB each logic raid volume. Both volumes are logged in and usable as sdb and sdc to the server. Formatted with ext4 -m 0 -v

Request EXTLINUX support 64bit features in ext4
In ext4 / e2fsprogs, there is such a thing as "64bit" features. More than 2 years ago (2014May) there was a request to improve EXTLINUX so to support such characteristics. Without supporting this feature, EXTLINUX fails to boot (or rather it fails to be installed correctly) in ext4 when the fs includes such "64bit" characteristic(s). Back then, the request was mainly

ext3/ext4 random write performance on ioDrive duo
Hi all, I have evaluated Fusion-io ioDrive duo (PCIe direct attached NAND flash memory storage) on the CentOS 5.4. The experimental result shows the write performance with multiple jobs (processes) on the ext3/ext4 filesystems is lower than that of XFS. The question I have is what is the cause of the ext3/ext4 performance limitation. I have measured the random write performance on several

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Xattrs are not supported via NFS: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.nfs/53259 I would suggest letting rsync do the networking between the Linux systems (probably over ssh). Is zerofree or resize2fs applicable to ext4?
Hi all, Can I ask if zerofree or resize2fs could also be applicable to ext4? Guestfish help of these two commands indicates that they are applicable to ext2/3. But ext4 is not covered in the help. However, I have tested these two commands in my Fedora 12 laptop, and it seems that both commands work well with ext4. So I don't quite understand why the help of these two commands only mention
