Audio/video recording software
Hi everyone! :-) I am supposed to get (for the first time) into the world of making youtube clips. I have a webcam, a microphone and a big hard drive configured and ready. The question is: what would you suggest as an easy-to-use yum-installable app that could handle a couple of minutes/hours of recording? People who are about to use it are complete noobs, and I would like to give them a

Need tip on an inexpensive printer for college student using CentOS 5.5
Sending my son back to college with a dual-boot laptop with Win 7 and CentOS 5.5. He uses Win7 to manage his iPod and SW that sometimes issued by a professor for a specific course...otherwise he uses CentOS for everything else. That setup worked well last year, except for printing. He has a low-end Cannon printer that is not supported in the Linux realm. Most of his coursework was uploaded to

CUPS drivers for wide printer
I found the .ppd for our brand new HP z3200ps 44" printer - a coworker got me the one from the Mac, and I edited it to separate out the Mac-only commands (there's even an #ifdef in ppd language), and it prints; I don't even need postprocessing, apparently... except that even though it knows how wide the paper is (in this case, a 24" wide roll that came with the printer), it

CentOS 6.5 printer weirdness...
Ok, it is consistent and repeatable: *Everytime* I do a routine 'yum update' on the CentOS 6.5 server (64-bit) the printers (both of them networked laser printers, one an [old] HP Laserjet 4200 and one a [new] Brother MFC-9970CDW), cups loses the ability to print (its filter chain becomes broken). According to the CUPS mailing list, this error is 'never' because of of problem with

Printer recommendations
Since my old Epson C86 has finally managed to clog up the print heads, I'm in the market for a replacement. I'd like to know what the people on this list are using for printers that are currently available, since we are using versions of CUPS and foomatic that are frozen, and any other issues or "gotchas" that you are aware of. For the replacement printer, I'm considering a

HP L7780 support in hplip 1.6.7???
Alle, I have an HP L7780 MFP, which is supported under hplip 1.7.2 but not the current install of 1.6.7. Does anyone know of a way just to add that particular driver to 1.6.7, or will it require removing the standard 1.6.7 and doing a custom install of 1.7.2. If the latter, what would you consider the dangers/other implications of going "rogue"? Best Regards, Camron -- Camron W.

486 custom kernel
Hi all, Is it possible to take the 686 CentOS 5, install that in virtual machine, install a custom kernel that is the 486 flavor, take that image and put it on a 8G CF card - insert that into a small form factor 486 class machine and have that work? I am hoping the extra instructions in a 686 (MMX, SEE etc) are not used by any libraries that I would be using (just standard stuff) and the new

A few issues with samba & cups
Hi all. I have Samba-3.0.1 sharing 2 printers via the 'share all printers' feature - the printers are an HP 4500 colour laser, and a Ricoh Aficio AP3200 ( accepting jobs like a network HP does ). I followed the instructions on the CUPS website for sharing printers with the CUPS windows driver, using their 'cupsaddsmb' script, which basically takes your existing ppd file, and

printers... (HP)
I can't remember if I asked here - I've got more than one printer, HP, laser, builtin JetDirect. When I go there in a browser, I see the basic thing, but I can't get to the networking page. It says that it wants a password, no user name. It doesn't accept anything. Last week, a co-worker reset one to factory defaults... and it comes up with the same thing. Looking around on the

Sharing a USB Printer
We're trying to share an Epson USB inkjet printer via Samba 3.0.2-7 on our new Fedora server. The share is set up OK, and can be seen and opened from Windows clients. However, although the Fedora box can print to the Epson, the Windows boxes can't. All other Samba shares, including a laser printer connected to the parallel port, work fine. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Unable to print with the Wine PS driver
I'm trying to get Wine to print through it's PS driver, without success, on a HP DeskJet 694C, configured on Linux with the cdj670 driver. What I get to see on screen after I attempt to print are three windows with exclamation marks on a yellow triangle and garbled text. The first window is titled "Printer name", the second "Device name", the third "Output".

HP vs. Brother Printers: Use with Centos/Fedora
We currently have a Brother MFC-5490CN. Printer firmware is dated June 1010. (yeah, 10 years old). Few years ago the brother software wouldn't work for printing under Fedora. No problem, can print under Windows 10. Then it stopped scanning. Could still print...under Windows. Now, to fix the scanning features working I installed updated drivers under Windows, now it scans like champ, but
