Compiling xenlinux 2.4.29 with grsec.. help needed
Hi list!
I''m trying to run 2.4.29-xenU with grsec. Jacob Gorm Hansen said couple of
weeks ago, that grsec should work with xen when pax is disabled..
Well, to get the kernel compiling there''s some source hacking that needs to
be done.. I''ll describe what I did and what error I got:
I downloaded xen-2.0-testing-src.tgz and extracted it. I edited the toplevel

Broken OS when booting rootfs from 9p share
Hello,
I've been trying to boot a VM with the rootfs being a 9P
share from the host. The VM OS is centos 7.
The OS boots but no services
can work and it appears that the authentication system is broken.
Now
the funny thing is that booting the same OS on the same 9P share
manually with Qemu works as expected with a fully functionnal OS... So
I'm wondering what could libvirt do that render

Help with a good recovery plan.. Linux rescue?
Hello All,
I have a machine that crashed. Some part of the motherboard (power
supply-related) went south.
The motherboard, CPU and memory have been replaced with a much newer
architecture. The OS and data are intact on two SATA drives that were
RAID1 with LVM.
I am going to use 'linux rescue' to recover the LVM backup so I can
mount the RAIDs (there were two) in a new CentOS

Linux grsec Guest on HVM Xen 3.1.1
Hello everybody
For network simulation purposes I am trying to run a Linux image with
a PAX enabled grsec kernel on a Gentoo xen-3.1.1 with HVM. While the
image boots flawlessly on real hardware the kernel does not really
like the fully virtualized Xen/Qemu environment. It does not succeed
to boot (for dmesg see attachment). I first tried with the grsec-
patched 2.6.14.6 sources but it

Centos 5.3 install on gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P motherboard
Hi,
I am having some difficulties installing centos 5.3 on the gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P motherboard.
Has anyone got centos booting on this motherboard?
so far I have tried the following.
+ disabled the jmicron controller as this caused errors on booting
JMB363 bad irq(0): will probe later error (this error caused the installation to stop at this point)
+ tested all components in another

pci-passthrough to a pv domu worked in xen 4.2.2, but not in 4.3.0
Hello,
my dom0 is an alpinelinux installed with kernel 3.10.14-1-grsec and xen
4.2.2.
My domU is an opensuse 12.3 with all patches installed.
The system works great, but when I do only switch xen from 4.2.2 to
4.3.0 (packages from http://nl.alpinelinux.org/alpine/edge/main/x86_64/)
then my kernel in the domU does an Oops and the drivers for my dvb card
aren''t loaded successfully.

Dovecot will not run on secure kernel.
I am trying to run Dovecot on RH 7.3 with Linux kernel 2.4.20 + GrSecurity patch.
I downloaded the RPM yesterday and installed it.
When I start Dovecot the kernel reports: kernel: grsec: From 192.168.1.22: attempt to overstep process limit by (dovecot:14491) UID(0) EUID(0), parent (dovecot:23872) UID(0) EUID(0)
I have never seen this problem in the 3 years I have used GrSecurity together with a

Cannot assign device in Xen-unstable [VT-d]
Hello,
I FINALLY got Xen working with VT-d. I compiled Xen-unstable (3.3) from
Mercurial on CentOS 5.2, but compiled my own kernel-xen from the latest
CentOS SRPM. (Made sure pciback was built-in and not a module, as the stock
kernel-xen has it as a module.) I''m probably going to write a how-to soon,
so stay tuned!

USB blues
I have a freshly built, updated EL6 system and am having problems with
USB stability - at boot everything works fine but within a few hours,
USB devices start disappearing randomly. At first I though the USB
devices were suspect, but removing the suspect devices and an accessory
PCIE USB card hasn't changed anything. As of now, a single USB device is
working. (which is lucky, it hosts the
