centralized user authentication
> Apart from ipa are there any other good tools out there for centralised user > auth? I am currently testing LDAP (openldap) combined with nss_ldap, configured with authconfig. I would start by testing IPA. Redhat is building out a set of enterprise management tools which include cobbler and spacewalk; I would think IPA will eventually be integrated into their mgt tools. That said, if

Kerberos Password Changes
Hi all, I apologize if I am getting into a subject that has been hashed and rehashed endlessly on this list, but I am just not finding exactly what I am looking for in terms of a response. At the moment, I have Linux and Solaris servers happily authenticating to my MIT Kerberos KDC, and fetching user information via an OpenLDAP server with a StartTLS connection (and authenticating to the LDAP

mdadm Linux Raid 10: is it 0+1 or 1+0?
The relevance of this question can be found here: http://aput.net/~jheiss/raid10/ I read the mdadm documents but I could not find a positive answer. I even read the raid10 module source but I didn't find the answer there either. Does someone here know it? Thank you!

Tracking specific fixes into backports
I apologize if this is a simple noob question - I looked around and couldn't find an easy answer. My auditor presenting me with some findings re: httpd (apache) and said I have to upgrade to the newest version. They are basing their findings on the "version" of Apache installed - but are unaware of the fixlevel. Is there an easy way that I can take a specific Mitre or Securityfocus

Kerberos authentication for non-windows KDCs
I was told recently that Kerberos authentication won't work against a non-windows KDC. Is that accurate? So for instance, it is not possible for Samba running on say RHEL, to authenticate against a Linux server running MIT Kerberos? Additionally, many people said that setting this up was well-documented. Any suggestions of particularly good docs / how-to's?' And lastly, is

Samba Server Specifications
Has anyone posted an up to date hardware review lately? It seems clear that a RAID6 server with 300GB CHEETAH 15K.5 SAS drives will trump a P3 with a 30GB IDE drive, however, not everyone will spend the money required for the high end unit, I'm looking to build a new server & trying to make best use of funds (aren't we all). Samba PDC...need help granting domain admin access
I have the latest version of Samba on Fedora Core 4. I need help adding users to the admin group so windows is not so crippled :-\ I have used the net groupmap add command to map them to unix group of admin....which is mapped to "Domain Admins" for windows. There is a lot of info that comes up through google but I am having no luck finding anything relevant (or that seems relevant to me). unexplained Replication failures...?
Hi all, I'm running in circles trying to debug replication failures on samba 4.7.6: dc00 : is a VM on KVM host (attached to a bridge on local LAN) dc01 : is a similarly configured VM on another KVM host. I've forcibly demoted and re-promoted dc01 but I still cannot get automatic replication to work: root at dc00 ~]# samba-tool drs showrepl Krynn\DC00 DSA Options: 0x00000001 DSA

Storing passwords in LDAP, but not a PDC
Hello, Is it possible to store samba passwords in ldap without configuring samba as a PDC? All the documents/references I've come across are related to using LDAP as a samba PDC backend, not as just a db file replacement. Thanks, David Filion

unable to change passwd from win XP
Hi list, I have set up two Samba PDC networks for work with win XP clients. Each network is small, about 15 clients and three printers. Each uses a different distro (don't ask)--one is mandriva 2006 the other is debian sarge. Both have all updates. Both have working wins and dns on Linux. Mostly things work well, but I am unable to change passwords from the XP clients. The client will

somewhat OT--windows logon script
Hi Group, We use a simple logon script to map drives for our users. If we put the following line: net use /delete * /yes then no drives are mapped on the workstations. If we rem it out, the script works fine. Full script below: net use /delete * /yes net use e: \\server5\peachtree net use w: \\server5\contract_maintenance net use t: \\server5\fleet net use x: \\server5\allusers net use u:
