xterm
Hi list I?m in the process of switching from a RedHat EL 4 to CentOS 5, and run into some problems I?m trying to open a X session to my Centos box, and got an error message stating that /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm is not found. The packages cifs-utils samba-client samba-common are installed, up to date etc... These

Support policy CentOS 5
Hi list Can someone tell me what the exact CentOS policy for end-of-life is for 5.0? Let me explain: I have been using RHEL for a number of years and had to switch to Fedora for installing some packages only supported under F6. As I find Fedora's policy for release life duration too stringent (and I do no longer need the packages that made me choose F6), I'm considering switching over

Web photo gallery options
Hi all, I'm looking for a web photo gallery for my personal web server at home. Till now I've done the galleries manually from Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I feel that is a dead end, kinda', besides the fact that the galleries created are rather static. I'd like an easier way to do this, eg uploading images in folders directly to the gallery and it will take care of what needs to

CentOS 7 1708 won't boot after grub2 update
Hi all, This is the third fresh install of CentOS 7 1708 the last two months that won't boot after a regular "yum update" just after the fresh install has finished. I've never had this problem before, it has just worked. The installs are on OEM's that have previously run CentOS 6.9 x64. Am I missing something here? -- BW, Sorin

Backup server
Hi all, I've built a new backup server for our linux-clients. Is Amanda the way to go for a backup-solution? It seems to be pretty powerful, if a bit finickety to set up initially. The way we currently do backups is to use rsync from the clients to two folders on an older server that rolls over every other week. This worked fine for a while, but the rsync is cumulative and the users

OT: Bittorrent clients
Hi all, Just switched my home computer from Windows 7 to CentOS 6.6 and I'm having a slight bit of trouble with the bittorrent-clients. * Transmission is fine but lacks "a bit" in features. * Vuze is my preferred bt-client but gives me horrendous gfx-artifacts, like not showing the torrent name (it's white text on a white background or some such...). * Deluge is better, and

OT: Blank mails from this list
Hi all, I apologise for this off-topic question, but wanted to hear from a third-party as well. Recently, like the last week or so, I've started getting blank emails from this list. Blank as in no message text is visible in the email. If I do a ctrl-A however, something does get marked. Evidently there is a message, just not visible. This particular list is the only one I've noticed

new laptop: DVD or Blu-ray
Sorin, authoring a movie usually refers to actually creating a disc (e.g. DVD/Blu-Ray with chapter marks and what not). It's the step that comes after you've shot and edited the movie, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_authoring. As far as I know K3B, Bombone DVD and DeVede are capable of authoring DVDs. K3B (version dependent) should even be able to create Blu-Ray discs so that they
