Cluster server options?
I have a 10 blade cluster of just hardware - I can install what I
want, how I want. ? What options are there if I wanted to build the 10
blades as one large beast, but _NOT_ necessarily for someone doing
grid-type work? ? ?Some users don't now how to program that way, but
they'd like to have their program run on something that acts like a
single processor, but a massive single processor

Running commercial softwares on CentOS
Hello!
How can I use CentOS as a complete desktop OS? I want to run Autodesk
products on it like AutoCAD,Revit,3D Max,etc. Does Wine (winehq) support
running such software?
Can I use (KVM,Xen) virtualization to run Windows XP and all commercial
software on it? Does running XP in virtualization requires a license?

update to 5.5 small issues
a couple hours after the update (and requisite reboot and reinstallation
of nvidia proprietary driver), I noticed I wasn't gettting any email.
upon a little investigation, I noted that the update had replaced my
custom sendmail.cf with its own. I don't recall updates to sendmail
doing that previously,....
also, around that time my panels stopped unhiding, so they remained in a

ATI Proprietary Drivers LAG
I've installed CentOS 5.5, fixed my problems with my network card driver,
and and I've followed this:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/HardwareList/AtiDriver ,
downladed latest ati driver, restarted, screen resolution is fixed, but
everything lags.

Radeon HD 4550 driver
Upgraded the kernel to the latest, then tried to rebuild the proprietary
Catalyst driver for a Radeon HD 4550 on a Dell Optiplex 980.
The install dies, with a c error. Anyone else out there succeed in
building one on the 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5-x86_64 kernel? I went to the ATI
website, and the "installation instructions" include that it needs a) 32
bit software (which? dunno) and b) a

Xen and Enomaly
Hi list,
Right now I''ve to find some graphic (or web!) interface to administrate
our new data center infrastructure who will be running over Xen.
I''ve been googling around to find something, and looks like Enomaly is a
good choice.
Can anybody give me some feedback about this? Or maybe recommend another
front-end interface?
Thanks in advance.
Boris.

Cloud computing using Xen
Hello,
I knew that Amazon ec2 is using xen...but are they any
documents/tutorial which teach how to plan/design/implement a
grid/cloud computing infrastructure using Xen?
Thanks.

new RAID5 array: 3x500GB with XFS
Hello all,
I have yesterday after some typos, sent my ext3 RAID5 array to the
void...
I want to recreate it now, but I read on
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Disk_Optimization
that you can optimize the filesystem on top of the RAID.
Will this wiki article be exactly the same for XFS?
Is it worth the trouble to also create an LVM volume on the RAID array?

Dell Equallogic
Hi List,
Does anyone here use Dell Equallogic IP SAN? If so, do you have any
immediate high points / low points you wouldn't mind discussing on- or
off-list ?
Thanks.

Multipathing with Sun 7310
Dear list,
we have a relatively new Sun Storage 7310, where we connect CentOS 5.5
Servers (IBM LS21/LS41 Blades) via Brocade Switches, 4GBit FC. The Blades
boot from SAN via qla2xxx, and have no harddisks at all. We want them to
use multipathing from the very beginning, so /boot and / are already seen
by multipathd. Problem is, that the Sun 7310 has two storage heads which

disable virtual terminals during kickstart installation
Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out where the inittab is for a pxeboot/kickstart
installation so that I can disable virtual terminals that allow for
interactive input such as CTRL+ALT+F2. I've looked in the /etc
directories for the pxeboot initrd as well as the stage2 and minstg2
files. Am I missing something grossly obvious here?

bind-to-interface option
Hi:
The openssh suite of commands have an option to specify address (e.g,
ListenAddress for sshd) but I do not see support for bind-to-interface.
The motivating use case for me is using openssh commands (sshd, ssh,
scp, sftp) with the recent VRF capability added to the Linux kernel. The
VRF design relies on the bind-to-interface option to select the correct
routing tables. Before I started

Puppet with cloud instances
Hello all,
Recently I was asked to start using Puppet as part of our Eucalyptus
powered internal cloud. I have been able to set up Puppet and a
puppet master on various instances, but what I am running into, is
that several of the instances have the same hostname or no hostname
when they are first launched, so of course when they try to get a cert
from puppetmaster I get an error saying that I

XEN control panel
Hi,
I''m looking for an XEN control panel. It is for a single machine. I have
been testing OpenQRM and Enimalism. Both are for networks bigger than 1
machine.
It needs to be installed on an CentOS or an Debian system.
Does anyone have an idea?

In the press, once again
May be a little bit off topic, but this gave me hard laugh:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/09/24/sysadmin_file_tools/
Windows admins use a virtualized CentOS machine to copy files because
their own tools are not able to handle copying a bigger amount of data. :)
Cheers,
