Switching from lokkit (iptables) to firewalld
Hi All, Over the last 20 some years I have a file with about 200K worth of address that have "wrongly" tried to connect to my boxes running centos. So the file has one line per address or group of addresses like: 2.244.112.0/24 So using the OLD iptables I would run through my file build the iptables.txt file and start that with DROP for the IP address. iptables ran through the big

firewall question
My firewall config is below... I am trying to figure out why another machine has access to port 5038 on my machine based on these firewall rules. I thought the reject at the bottom would take care of all other ports? It does not. I have restarted with "server iptables restart" and same thing. I can connect from another machine to my machine on port 5038. How do I prevent this?

network config files in centos 5 changing
What is happening in centos 5 with network config files??? I have a machine with 2 network cards. ifcfg-eth1 keeps changing to DHCP. All my static setup is gone. Why is it doing this? How can I stop it? I run "netconfig -d eth1" and re-setup my static information. I reboot and now I am back to DHCP. I have a gigabyte motherboard, nvidia chipset. forcedeth driver. eth0 is e1000.

future modprobe.conf
centos 5 had modprobe.conf entries for eth0 and if present eth1. something like: alias eth0 forcedeth alias eth1 e1000e For the new centos 6 (I have the rhel 6 client installed on my laptop) the modprobe.conf file is gone. Which is fine. I understand files can be created in /etc/modprobe.d and server the same purpose. My question is I dont see (doing a grep) any eth0 alias's in the files in

quick question on machine name
I have a box I just installed centos 4.5 on. The name of the machine in /etc/hosts is TomSlick.xyz.com TomSlick (for example). the name of the machine in /etc/sysconfig/network HOSTNAME=TomSlick.xyz.com Note both are upper case: Yet when I login as root the prompt is showing me tomslick in lower case not a combo upper lower. I have grepped /etc and below for tomslick and cannot find why this

Firewall IPtables to use the SAMBA server
Hi, This question is about how to set up the firewall iptables in sysconfig? I have my firewall set to high and have no luck connecting to the SAMBA server (a low firewall works fine). I feel this is because the port is being blocked. I used Lokkit to generate the iptables and set the level to high. I also found on the SAMBA site what ports are used, unfortunately I don't know what to add

FYI: a short guide to libvirt & network filtering iptables/ebtables use
I just wrote this to assist some Red Hat folks understanding what libvirt does with iptables, and thought it is useful info for the whole libvirt community. When I have time I'll adjust this content so that it can fit into the website in relevant pages/places. Firewall / network filtering in libvirt ======================================= There are three pieces of libvirt

building a multicast router
Hi, I have been reading: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.multicast.html in effort to understand how to route multicast traffic and just joined the group. History: I am trying to multicast mpeg (using the videolan server) on a private network. The server side of the network is copper gigabit, which connects to one of those cheap fast Ethernet switches with a single gigabit uplink. The problem

Redhat firewall problem...
I've just tried setting up a Shrike (9) version of Redhat. Using the medium settings of lokkit, then adding manually accept commands for ports 137/udp 138/udp, 139/tcp and 445/tcp, I thought I should have been ready to go. This isn't the case, however. I know it's not the smb.conf settup because when I kill iptables samba works. When iptables IS running however, it will respond
