Best way to specify an HTML element inside another
Hi I know should_have is preliminary but I can''t resist using it... I have a form that contains a date select (Rails-generated). I want to specify that the default value for each popup menu is correct The best I can manage is this: response.should_have "form > p > select[name=''quote_parameters [purchase_date(3i)]''] >

Specs for RJS HTML output NOT containing an element
Hi I have an RJS template that renders a partial to update a page. I just added a parameter to get passed into this partial to eliminate a row in the table it generates, but I can''t find a way to test that the unwanted output is in fact missing. should(_not)_have_tag doesn''t work with RJS, and there''s no should_not_have from assert select. error_on is deprecated?
The docs say DEPRECATED. See Spec::Rails::Expectations model.should_have(:no).errors_on(:attribute) model.should_have(1).error_on(:attribute) model.should_have(3).errors_on(:attribute) However the rdoc for Spec::Rails::Expectations shows the same code. The only difference is that it''s "model.should have(1).error_on(:attribute) instead" So is error_on itself deprecated, or is

UI testing framework? (w/o selenium)
Hey all, I am currently working on coming up w/ an easy to use, developer-centric web testing framework to test a J2EE app with. (I have 3 rails apps in production, love rspec, and am currently at a java shop). I''ve looked at selenium, and it just doesn''t seem like it is ready for prime time, and the target audience is developers. So, having said that, does the rspec

Specs for Ajax partials with unicode characters
Hi Not sure if this is more Rails or RSpec related... I''ve got an app with an RJS view that updates a div in a page with the contents of a partial. The partial contains a non-ascii character namely a pound sign. I set up a simple test app with this RJS view: page.replace_html("test_div", :partial => "test_action") and this _test_action.rhtml:

Specifying Ajax hyperlinks
I was about to put this as a feature request but I wasn''t sure if anyone would consider it useful so I thought I''d ask here. I''m not sure what the feeling on specifying links is - it strikes me as something that needs doing because it''s generated code at the end of the day. I''ve got a few lines now along the lines of:

Finding the rhyme for has_many :through
Hi all, I am NOT a person with English as my mother language and I haven''t been programming long enough to be natural in these kind of things. And if that isn''t bad enough, I am a newbie on Rails too... So please enligthen. I am trying to build a simple tool for my shop. I have many products that I sell in my shop and of course I have many suppliers for the products. Thus

What are people using for date fields
I''m just curious about what techniques others have successfully used to capture date data on forms as an alternative to the standard date_select. I have to admit I''ve been lazy and only used the date_select as we have very few dates in our system now, but that is about to change. I would like something better. Any thoughts? -- Thanks, Sam -------------- next part

Should fixtures be transactional?
I started using the new Model.should_have(1).records expectation in rspec_on_rails, and quickly realized that my fixtures were remaining loaded, even in contexts that didn''t use them. Bug or feature? Jay Levitt

Rspec Caveman questions.
Hello! I''m just a caveman with some caveman questions. I''ve been parsing Rspec for quite a while, and I''m writing my first series of specs. My initial impressions are "Verbose, but understandable. Helpful and intuitive, but so much to digest." I want to congratulate the folks who are dedicating a chunk of their lives to writing this, and ask 2 caveman

RJS specs
Hi again... This is wierd spec problem no. 3. I''ve got a simple one line RJS file that renders a partial specified by the controller page.replace_html("product_info", :partial => @product_partial) The partials in question will contain purely static content - the idea is to have some dynamic links, so you hit http://localhost:3000/gap/product_info/product_1

can''t get date_select to work
Hi, I render a couple of date_select fields, the HTML looks fine, I can see the values submitted back to the server, but AR doesn''t pick them up from the hash in Booking.new(params[''booking'']). I''ve got a ''booking'' object with parameters product, startdate and enddate. HTML snippets: <select

Understanding date_select naming conventions
I am using the date_select helper to generate date select elements in a form. I notice that the generated HTML shows that these selects have the following names: Month: current_job[StartDate(2i)] Day: current_job[StartDate(3i)] Year: current_job[StartDate(1i)] I''m assuming that the Xi identifiers somehow specify the appropriate date part from a date or time value. Can anyone

Specifying that code is called in a block
Not sure if this is possible currently. I have a section of code like this: ActiveRecord::Base.transaction do cow.save! duck.save! dog.save! end (Names changed to protect the innocent.) I''d like to specify that the saves run in a transaction. I can do ActiveRecord::Base.should_receive(:transaction).and_yield But is there any way to specify that the code is

should have_tag outside Rails
Hi Google has not helped me here. I''m looking for a way to use the have_tag assert_select wrapper outside RSpec on Rails (but in a Rails project) so I can use it to check text strings. Has anyone managed this? Thanks Ashley -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Working with date_select ...
I am a little confused about the best way to work with date_select. I see that in my views it generates a simple input form that allows for the entry of year, month and date information. If I just leave it at that, great! But what if now in the controller, I want to work with the date information. I actually want to take the user input date and compute a new date some number of days in the
