Set hostname via DHCP ?
Hi.
I just setup one of my machines as a DHCP server. I'd like it to handle
the hostnames of clients. Don't know if this is an orthodox thing to do
(feel free to add your comments :oD). Here's the server's relevant lines
of dhcpd.conf:
--8<-------
...
# Envoyer les noms d'h?tes aux clients
use-host-decl-names on;
# Adresses statiques
host babasse {

Which DNS to use for DHCP hostname/IP updates from non-AD & AD nodes?
I am considering which DNS implementation and cannot determine exactly
when someone should use the Bind9 manner with BIND9_DLZ Module.
For my purposes, I will have AD and non-AD nodes on the network using
either DHCP or static IP addresses. Some will be Windows & Linux clients
joined on the Samba AD domain for logins. Some will be Windows & Linux
clients that are standalone using

DNS issue with clean install of samba 4.5.12-Debian
Hai Mike,
I post it to the list so everybody can learn from it.

man hostname wil tell.. But i'll try to explain it a bit.
Read the Description, its also about how the hostnames are resolved within the systemfuntions.
Like gethostname and gethostbyname

Erratic local hostname resolution with Dnsmasq
Hi,
My local server is running CentOS 7. The machine has two NICs and is
acting as a gateway. For DHCP and DNS, I'm using Dnsmasq. I have a
strange little problem with local hostname resolution. Before going into
more details, here's my configuration.
[root at nestor:~] # ifconfig
enp2s0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 192.168.0.2 netmask

Which DNS to use for DHCP hostname/IP updates from non-AD & AD nodes?
With Linux DHCP + Bind it was possible to have the DHCP server
dynamically update Bind as new clients appeared. I don't need the
clients themselves updating DNS records directly. For those few nodes
using static IP addresses and not on the AD domain, I'm fine with having
to manually enter their A/PTR records into the DNS database. IIRC normal
MS Windows AD DC allows for nodes that are

Filter web content in a LAN ?
Hi,
I installed a network of five desktops in a small town hall, all running
CentOS 5.4. The machines are publicly, and the mayor asked me to find
some solution to effectively filter web content, as the kids' first
reflex is to visit the interesting bits of the Internet first, from
satanism to porn.
One of the machines will be set up as a router anyway, since the public

Which DNS to use for DHCP hostname/IP updates from non-AD & AD nodes?
I suspected something odd and possibly too invasive was being done by
the BIND9_DLZ module, especially because of the need to relax AppArmor
on Ubuntu. Resolving that security problem really should be a
development priority, but I also realize it's a resource and time issue.
I suppose because it is not a direct security vulnerability and would
require Bind9 to be compromised there is

I'm happily extracting data of temperature from an oracle db

Permission denied on GPT.ini (Event ID 1058)
Ok, try this.
Gif the pc a uid and check again.
If it works then, its a share or security right.
Gpupdate /force works because at that point you "user"/user has a uid and gid.
The error occurs at start up because the COMPUTERNAME$ doent have access to that gpt.ini.
Resetting sysvol in that case doent help because the right on the gpt.ini is set by the group you assigned to the

hostname not being picked up by DHCP
Hi - I am using the CentOS v5 desktop installation and am setting up a
new lab for our engineering department. Initially I computers got their
IP addresses and computer names from the DHCP process and the computer
were getting the info from the dynamic pool. These name would be
d-23-76.mnsu.edu, where the d stood for dynamic and 23-76 refered the
IP address of xx.xx.23.76. The computer

centos dfcp send hostname to microsoft dhcp/dns
Hallo,
I try to configure my dhcp-client to send the hostname to a microsoft
dns/dhcp server.
It doesn t work. Nothing happens.
A debian system works fine so it seems that the microsoft-side isn t
the problem this time.
I found some hints but nothing works.
Thansk for hints.

Mass installs of desktop systems on identical machines
Hi,
I'm running a small Linux consulting business here in a group of small
villages in the South of France (http://www.microlinux.fr). I'm using
CentOS for everything, servers as well as desktops. The desktop installs
are usually highly customized. My approach is to list the client's
needs, find the corresponding applications and then install these, to
avoid the bloat and

login scripts --what to use
Hi,
We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver
the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to
printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share.
Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and
simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files?
Thanks,
chris
