VMWare Server doesn't like new CentOS installation?
I just got a nice, shiny new machine at work, a Core 2 Duo, on which I
just finished installing CentOS 5.2 with a fair number of packages,
SeaMonkey 1.1.10, Adobe Reader 8.0, Adobe Flash 9.0, mplayer,
mplayerplug-in (both from rpmforge), and I think that was it. Then I
went and got the latest VMWare Server, 1.0.7, from VMWare, pulled down
their rpm, installed it, and ran vmware-config.pl, which

Benefits of VMWare 2.0 over 1.x?
I've been running VMWare Server 1.x for some time now, currently on
1.08, and I've been pretty satisfied with it.
I was wondering if any of you fellow VMWare users are seeing any
significant benefit to moving to the 2.0 release.
I'm running CentOS 5.4 with Linux 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP x86_64 on an
AMD 7750 64x2 with 4GB of RAM....
Thanks.

VMWare hiccup on CentOS 5, 2.6.18-8.1.8
For reasons which escape me, my VMWare Server, which was working perfectly a
week ago when I shut down my machine for vacation, no loner comes up with
the formerly working Windows XP system - it just stays in the small window
where it normally boots and does nothing.
The vmware serverd log shows nothing particularly interesting, and I have
reconfigured the vmware twice to try and fix this (which

VMWare 6.02 and Linux screen saver?
I have a user who freshly installed CentOS on their desktop. They also
installed VMWare 6.02.
When they click the mouse on their Linux desktop, the screen saver properly
activates. But, when they click the mouse in their VMWare session, the Linux
screen saver never activates. This has been tried for both VMWare Player and
Workstation.
I don't know if it makes any difference, but the

C 5.2 and VMWAre error
A colleague has a newly built 64-bit CentOS 5.0 system that, through yum
updates, has become CentOS 5.2. VMWare Workstation and Player work fine
for my account on it. But a recent configuration of something under
their account has produced:

Severe VMware slowdown
In the last few days, I have noticed a drastic slowdown in my VMware
Windows guest OS.. I recently bit the bullet and upgraded it from XP
SP1 to SP2, and that seemed to work fine for quite a few days.
The two major changes I made to the system recently were:
1) The most recent update from CentOS (can't remember which one, but
it was within the last two weekd for 5.0).
2) Adding another VM

New to the list ... Looking for any recommendations inre: VMWare Vs. Xen
I'm new to the CentOS arena and I'm curious as to what virtualization
products are preferred?
The two main ones that I know of are Xen and VMWare. VMWare seems to be
the most capable inre: number and size of vm's allowed. When looking at
Xen it appears that since Citrix acquired them the free version is
cripple-ware and is very restrictive.
Thanks in advance for any information.

Firewall for virtual machines
I realize I'm not getting a lot of questions answered here lately, and
I'm going to presume that this is for legitimate reasons (i.e., people
don't know or are too busy to think about it), not because they seem
stupid (if they do, please tell me, on the list or privately).
I run Windows as a VMWare guest on top of my CentOS host, and I
generally have not used a firewall on the guest.

Samba config for Windows on VMWare
I know this is a little off topic (not as usual, dammit!), but I figure
at least one of y'all can handle this one.
I have tried to configure my CentOS4.4 Plus desktop for samba sharing
with the VMWare Windows that runs on it. However, no matter what I've
done so far, I can't get the Windows to recognize this machine as a
legitimate network destination.
Here's my samba

Video on (video-capable digital) still camera not accessible
I'm looking for any intelligent commentary on this - it may be a
little off topic, but I'm wondering if anyone knows about this. This
isn't short, so bear with me.
Yesterday, I tried to download a video off of one of my digital still
cameras that also takes videos (Canon Powershot SX10 iS) on my CentOS
x86_64 5.3 system. When I plugged the camera into a USB port and
turned it on, it

Widescreen monitor won't configure to a wide screen
I just put a 1680x1050 LCD monitor on my home system, and I went into
system-config-display to configure it as such, and it just won't take.
I had to tweak some of the settings by hand, but when I log out, I get
the wide screen for both the Nvidia driver splash screen and the login
screen.
But, when I log in, It jumps back to 1280x1024 and refuses to run in
wide screen mode.

CentOS-Samba question
My main system is a CentOS 5.1 64-bit desktop with gobs of disk and a
couple of printers attached that work just fine. I have it set up
with samba so my VMWare guest Windows XP can access most of the files
and the printers.
But, when I try to connect to the printers from a remote machine that
has a Win98/WinXP dual boot, I can't see the printers at all.
Both 98/XP can ping the host by IP

Slightly OT? - How do I set up Win98 to access a printer on my CentOS box?
I have a WinXP guest under VMWare on my CentOS 5.1 host and it can
access the CentOS printer(s) just fine.
However, I also have a Win98 box on the LAN that I would like to be
able to print on the CentOS printer. When I try to connect to the
printer, Win98 tells me that it can't find the network...?
Any suggestions?

display problem running under vmware
I'm running an up-to-date CentOS 6 virtual machine in a VMWare player on a Windows box and I cannot set the display resolution to anything higher than 1280x720. Windows shows the screen resolution on this monitor to be 1920x1080.
I do have VMWareTools installed although I'm not certain it is installed correctly. How can I tell? It is version 8.8.4-743747.

USB printer goes into disconnected state when low-power mode enabled
I've mentioned this before, here, but with a laser printer connected via
the lp0 port.
I have a new laser printer, a Brother HL2140, that normally works just
fine when installed using the CUPS interface per OpenPrinting's
instructions (with one minor modification I had to add because the base
driver without the CUPS installation did not work.

Shutdown CentOS VM when closing VMWare Workstation
Hello,
I'm using CentOS 5.5 / 16bit as a virtual machine in VMWare Workstation
and have installed the "VMWare Tools" by running vmware-install.pl and
vmware-config-tools.pl but can't figure out how to make the VM shutdown,
when I shutdown the Windows PC hosting it.
Does anybody please have any hints or scripts?
Do I need to use any VMWare modules if I just want to shutdown the

Vmware Server on Centos 5.1
Hi all,
I am running some Centos 5.0 x86_64 servers as host os for vmware server
1.0.3 on both Opteron and Xeon systems. They are all running fine and
stable. But now I am in doubt to upgrade to 5.1.
Has any one done that yet, upgraded his vmware hosts with Centos/RHEL
5.0 to 5.1 ?

vmware fusion display auto-size problem
Greetings.
I am running vmware fusion 4.1.1 on a OSX host. Centos6.2 is a guest.
The box is a macbook laptop running leopard.
Before upgrading to 6.2, the display auto-resize (or auto-fill) was
working fine. After 6.2, it has stopped working.
Centos is fully updated to 6.2. I have tried to install the vmware
drivers from the repository (via yum), and yum reports I have the
latest.
