Silly question x64 vs i386
I have a really silly question... but just want to ask...
I have one box on my home network that is x86_64 capable... My other
boxes are all i386. As this x86_64 machine can, at most, house 4 GB of
RAM (currently only has 1 GB) - is there any advantage to my running
x86_64 on that machine instead of i386... Long story as to why I am
asking - but before I go off and moveit down to i386 -

Silly question about KVM
I was wondering, if I do not have hardware that natively supports full
virtualization...and I choose to use KVM, will my VMs be running in some
form of chip emulation (and therefore terribly slow). To date, I've been
using Xen and am very comfortable with it. I have some fears that later
whenever Xen is dropped - I'll have to consider KVM.
Also, will Xen be carried forward should

xm mem-set on an F11 xen guest
I just tried to change the memory for my F11 xen guest from 512 to 1024.
After executing:
xm mem-set workstation 1024
xm list shows the memory still being 512. Anyone else see this behavior
before? I tried other values as well - but the memory is still what it
was when I created the VM...
I'm running CentOS 5.4 on an i386...

question on virtual desktops
centos has the 4 virtual desktops by default.
if I have a terminal window open in desktop 1
is there a command I can execute (type in) to switch to desktop 2?
The mouse will not be attached at this point and I want to switch views
using a command line. How do I do that?
Thanks,

subversion 1.6.9 and sqlite 3.6.22
I'm in the process of setting up subversion and since the version
packages with C5 is, shall we say, showing its age, I've built an
updated version. In order to do that I had to upgrade sqlite from the
default 3.3.6 (which the current subversion will not build with) and I
went with 3.6.22. Has anyone else had any experience with whether or not
that breaks anything?
I'm a little

new freenx and nx RPMS released, manual action for x86_64
There are new RPMS released for nx and freenx in the CentOS-4 and
CentOS-5 Extras repository.
I normally do not announce that here, as those can easily be obtained on
a normal "yum upgrade/update", however in this case there are special
actions required *_IF_* you have the x86_64 architecture for either
CentOS-4 or CentOS-5 with the current versions of nx and freenx installed.

installed freenx server on CentOS 4 server
installed nxclient from nomachine.com on workstation
so far so good.
following directions from web site...

where I tried both /etc/nxserver/client/client.id_dsa.key
and /var/lib/nxserver/home/.ssh/client.id_dsa.key

FreeNX documentation and other miscellanea
I was having trouble connecting to the server that I am using for remote
development so I updated things and rebooted.
Connected into FreeNX nicely after that...wonder if there is issues with
memory leaks or something...
Anyway, it appears that the nxagent grabbed port 3000 which is what I
was using for rubyonrails/webrick (I probably can change that) which
sort of tells me that when I first

x2go (vs. freenx)?
Is anyone using x2go on Centos - and if so, is there any reason to
think about switching from freenx? The old NX client for mac was a
powerpc binary and is no longer supported under mountain lion - and
their new alpha release crashed my mac after an OSX update so I'm
curious if there is anything better around. (And I didn't like the
way the new mac version changed the screen scaling

freenx-0.5.0-8.c4.noarch.rpm is in testing
We have created a new version of freenx (freenx-0.5.0-8.c4.noarch.rpm)
and moved it to the testing repo.
This is based on the code displayed at the LWE in San Francisco ...

(though it is not officially released as stable by the freenx people)
This version should handle printing and reconnecting to running sessions

freenx
Hello,
I am having problems getting freenx running in CentOS 4.5 i386_64. I
know this is not a new problem, however, I havn't
found a solution in all the postings I found on the web.
I did exactly what is supposed to work and described in detail at
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/FreeNX
After doing that I can connect to the server with nxcleint without
problem but I get only a black

FreeNX authenticates but no desktop on centos 5 ??
Hi all,
I am new to CentOS and freeNX -- both look really awesome, a huge thanks to
all the people making them happen.
I am having a problem with freenx that appears to be specific to centos 5.
my client authenticates but then no desktop comes up. however, when I
connect to a similar machine running centos 4.4, I authenticate and the
gnome desktop just pops up sweet as can be. I also have a vnc

R or C++ on FreeNX servers
Hi all,
I have just found out that the machine learning group in our Faculty has
a lot of spare capacity on their FreeNX servers. I do not know a lot
about these beasts but I understand that they are a free version of
something produced by a firm called "NoMachine".
They are designed for executing parallel algorithms and I thought that
they might be of use in a project of mine

freenx in rootless mode and session resume anyone?
Hi
I suceeded to run freenx on centos3 with the nomachine client, but I
still have some issues.
First I can only get a new whole desktop (kde) session. I cannot resume
it, and it always leave tons of process that I have to kill from root.
I don't need the whole kde desktop, and only want to have single
windows. This is called the rootless mode I think and cannot make it
work, it simply

FreeNX on 64-bit success
I know a few people have been asking about running FreeNX on x86_64
machines.
I've just installed the i386 versions of FreeNX and NX from Extras, and
the openssl.i686 package, and it seems to be running happily on an
x86_64 CentOS 4.4 machine.

Wine on Ubuntu 8.04 FreeNX with Mac OS X 10.3 NX client
Hello,
We have Ubuntu 8.04 running with FreeNX server on our 'remote desktop server' linux machine.
We can connect to the Ubuntu machine with the NoMachine NxClient from Windows, Linux and Mac OS 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5.
We also have Wine 1.0 installed on the Ubuntu machine, and we run a variety of Windows applications and utilities in the remote desktops from clients on all 3 systems

Mac client to freenx?
Now that Mac lion/mountain lion versions of OSX don't support the old
powerpc binaries like the NX 3.5 client any more, what is the best
approach to connect to freenx on Centos - the new 'nxplayer' from
nomachine.com, opennx, or something else? Google seems to show mixed
opinions and quirks with each.
