is it possible to recover LVM drive from accidental Fdisk?
Hi all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to recover an LVM partition from a drive
that was fdisked? I accidently fdisk'd the wrong drive (had to fdisk a lot
of 160GB drivers from old servers and one still has important data on that
client now wants) by running fdisk /dev/sdc & deleting the partitions. The
drive is still in a another machine and hasn't been rebooted yet, but

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to recover a deleted LVM volume but can't see to get the

domU corrupt after server crash, help needed trying to recover domU LVM
Hi all,
One of our Dell servers has failed badly, and one of the domU's has been
corrupted in the process. It boots up to a point and then gives me a kernel
panic:
Loading dm-zero.ko module
Loading dm-snapshot.ko module
Scanning and configuring dmraid supported devices
Scanning logical volumes
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...

NFS vs SMb vs iSCSI for remote backup mounts
Hi,
I would like to get some input from people who have used these options for
mounting a remote server to a local server. Basically, I need to replicate /
backup data from one server to another, but over the internet (i.e. insecure
channels)
Currently we have been mounting an SMB share over SSH, but it's got it's own
set of problems. And I don't know if this is optimal, or if I

oVirt on CentOS 5.3?
Hi,
Has anyone been succesful in installing oVirt on CentOS 5.3? While it looks
like a greate virtualization package, they only support FC10, and the
installation instructions are for FC9.
So, has anyone installed it on CentOS yet? If so, would you mind sharing
with me whether it was a problematic installation, or not really?

Xnest unable to connect with firewall enabled (possible bug with 5.3)
Hi,
My requirement is to use Xnest only. It was working seamlessly with 5.2 but
not with 5.3
I am using this command to connect to the remote X-server.
Xnest :1 -geometry 800x600 -query *<ip-address-of-X-server>*
Can anyone confirm the same behavior? Or shall I file the bug in bugzilla?

Is parralel processing automatically done on multi-core CPU's?
Hi,
I just noticed this article,
http://www.howtoforge.net/fully-utilizing-your-x-core-cpu which uses
http://code.google.com/p/ppss/ for parralel processing.
So, can anyone tell me if parralel processing happens automatically on
CentOS, or would I need to use this script as well? We mainly have Dual Core
& Dual CPU, Dual Core (i.e. 8 cores) servers and it would be benefitial to
know whether

is it possible to resive /var online?
Hi all,
Is it possible, safely, to resize /var while a server is running? I urgently
need to resize a full 2GB /var on a running server which is located at a
remote location where no one can get to it for 2 days?
The system runs on lvm.
I already moved /var/logs to it's own LVM partition but it didn't help at
all so I think it's better to rather just resize it. Google searches

everything seems to hang, but system is idle?
Hi All,
My one server recently started acting very weird. At fist I couldn't
import any images with cobbler as rsync crashes the whole time. I was
told to ask on the cobbler list (maybe it's not supported here?) but I
left it at that (subscribed to far too many lists already).
Yesteday I wanted to copy some stuff from a USB disk to the server

OT: looking for a rsync equivalent for Windows platforms
Hi all,
Does anyone know of a good & free rsync type program for Windows
platforms? Like most of us, I need to work on both Windows & Linux
environments, and would like to sync some data (music, videos, photos,
documents, thunderbird profiles, FF bookmarks, etc) between a USB HDD,
my Linux (CentOS + KDE) PC, and Windows Laptop at the office.
I found a program called Toucan (which also

settings up cheap a NAS / SAN server, is it possible?
Hi all
I want to look at setting up a simple / cheap SAN / NAS server using
normal PIV motherboard, 2GB (or even more) RAM, Core 2 Duo CPU (probably
a Intel 6700 / 6750 / 6800) & some SATA HDD's (4 or 6x 320GB - 750GB).
My budget is limited, so I can't afford a pre-built NAS device.
Can this be done with CentOS? I've been looking FreeNAS (which is built
on FreeBSD), and it

advice needed about "554 Too many recipients"
Hi all,
A client of ours just requested to increase the max_recipients in Exim
to 300, since he keeps getting "554 Too many recipients" error when
sending a marketing email from MS Outlook.
Before you tell me to use Pine / Mutt / etc to send plain-text emails
via mailman, this isn't an option.
I would like to know, what are the implications of increasing the
default 100 to 300? If

i.e. Can I setup another machine, on a different public IP than the
dynamic ADSL IP as default gw? OR do I need todo something on that

how to debug windows not starting

I have a CentOS 5.1 x64 server, running Xen version 3.1.0-53.1.21.el5 &

After doing a software update in Windows (via Remote Desktop), I
rebooted windows, but it never came back up. So, I logged into the
server via SSH, and destoyed the VM, and recrated it. Yet it doesn''t
boot up ( I can''t connect to it via RDP).
So, how do I debug it to see

how to downgrade from CentOS 5.2 to CentOS 5.1?
I've run into some trouble with a new cPanel VPS, and noticed that it's
running CentOS by default, installed via the CentOS http server.
My question is, how do I downgrade CentOS to 5.1?
