mailman on CentOS with multiple virtual hosts
Hello,
This isn't exactly CentOS specific, but it does reference the CentOS
way of doing things, so offlist replies might be better.
I'm running a CentOS 5.4 server with postfix as MTA with virtual
mailbox domains. I have set up a mailing list server
lists.example1.com using apache virtual hosts and the mailman rpm. Now
i want to add a second one call it lists.example2.com and am not sure

[OT?] diffs between mysql 5.0 and 5.1, and upgrading to mysql 5.1?
being used to mysql 5.1 on my fedora system, i'm suddenly looking
after a centos 5.4 box with mysql 5.0.77. before i start digging into
the mysql 5.0-5.1 changelog, do i have a lot to worry about in terms
of mentally backing up one version? or is simply upgrading the centos
box to mysql 5.1 an option? (i realize that mysql 5.1 is *not*
officially supported in centos 5.4.)

following Centos wiki headless install, but applying to FC10
I have successfully built an install CD following the instructions at:
http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/VncHeadlessInstall
Now I am trying to do the same with FC10 and I am failing in two ways.
I have tried to find a similar howto for even FC9, but have not found
the right google magic.
The first problem should be small. When I set isolinux.cfg to start with:
prompt 1

Is it safe to run only the XEN kernel on dom0 host?
Hi,
I have an issue with my XEN servers, in that when I do a yum upgrade,
it upgrades the kernels, and then updates the grub.conf file to boot
with the normal Linux kernel, and not the XEN kernel - and I tend to
forget to update the grub.conf, until I reboot and see XEN isn't
running.
So, is it safe to remove the normal kernel & kernel-development, and
only run the XEN kernel?

Bind data directory borked on update from 5.3 to 5.4
I updated my secondary DNS server from 5.3 to 5.4 today. After the
update, named would not start. A bit of investigation found that all of
the files in /var/named/chroot/var/named/data had been turned into links
to themselves!
Fortunately, since this is a secondary DNS, all I had to do was delete
the files, replace the root hints file and let everything else copy back
over from the master. If

Upgrading PHP + MySQL on CentOS 3
Hi,
I have a CentOS 3 server that I need to update to MySQL 5 + PHP4. I
downloaded and installed the MySQL client and server RPM packages for
Red Hat 3, including the Shared Compatibility Libraries which
provide /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so.10, .12, .14 and .15, which seems
to be the recommended way of upgrading a MySQL 3 installation. I then
went on to recompile PHP 4.4.7, which worked

Samba4 creating users
Hello Rowland,
Thanks for the pointer. The good news is I have it working.
The bad news is there appears to be a problem. Both machines are on
the same subnet. I tried to connect from the win10 1803 box to the nas
box which has the netbios name of example2. It took almost a minute
before I was prompted for login credentials. Is this normal? Is there
anything I can do about it?
Again thanks.

No shared physical device in virt-manager
I am fairly new to xen and am trying to build a new guest using
virt-manager. When I get to the screen where you can choose virtual or
shared physical device there are no physical devices to choose from. Is
there some step that I have missed while setting up my Dom0?

Installing CentOS 5.4 64bit on server with LSI SAS 1068E controller.
I'm trying to install CentOS 5.4 on a machine with a LSI SAS 1068E
controller. I've googled all over the place and found a few different
drivers for RHEL5 for it.. and tried a few of them.. Some will load,
some complain that this isn't the correct version.. non of them work
when it comes to showing Hard Drivers in the partition manager. The
machine is a Supermicro SYS-6015V-M3

Installing old Suse as fully virtualized guest: problem with install source
Using CentOS 5.1 with Xen 3.2.
I'm trying to install a fully virtualized system for the first time and
doing this with an old Suse 9.0 (this probably would run paravirtualized,
maybe it won't run, anyway, because of hardware problems).
I start with virt-manager and after choosing "fully virtualized" it
presents me two options for install media: iso image and CD-ROM or DVD,

Virsh shutdown all command?
Hello:
Is there a command in virsh to shutdown all domains?
I can do one at a time, but that is untenable for a large
number of domains.
Thanks,

DHCP and DomUs: not working
I''m trying to get DHCP working with DomU clients. I don''t want to use
libvirtd. There''s a dhcpd on the machine and it works fine for all clients
in the network, but not for DomUs. If I set a static IP on the DomU all
networking for them is fine, so there''s no general networking problem.
I use the xen 3.2 packages for CentOS on CentOS 5.1.

overcommiting vcpus
My test box has an AMD dual core processor in it, giving me 2 physical
cpu''s.
If I overcommit the vcpu''s (eg vcpus=4) to simulate a 4 cpu machine, how
accurate a simulation should it be (apart from performance sucking
badly)?

Quation about CentOS 4 xenU kernel
I converted a physical maschine running CentOS 4.6 to a Xen VM on a CentOS
5 host. Almost everything was running when I decided to rsync /lib and
/usr a while later in order to get updated files and get the one or two
non-working programs to work. There are differences because of the xenU
kernel I didn't think about. I forgot to exclude rpm database and
/lib/modules.
Because the synced

real HDD usage of XEN images
Hello,
i am creating my XEN VM with virt-install (see below).
When I create new images i do first an "df -h" to see if there is
still enough space left on the drive.
Are the XEN images pre allocated or does XEN only use that space that
really is used by the VM inside the image?
I know have the Problem that an "du -h" inside my /VM folder gives me

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
I'm new to streaming or music hearing over the wire, I still prefer my
old-fashioned stereo equipment :-)
But a friend asked me to setup a shoutcast server for him, so I went out
and installed it, played a bit with it and didn't like it. So I looked for
an open source alternative and found Icecast. Installed fine, works fine.
But there is one thing which puzzles me and I hope someone

DHCP for Xen VMs
I created my first Xen VM that didn't use a static IP address. It grabs an
IP from the 198.168.122.0 subnet (from I don't know where). I would rather
want it to use my DHCP server. How can I achieve this?
