Questions on qcow, qcow2 versus LVM
I''ve been using lvm under centos to create the backing store for domUs and although the performance seems acceptable it has some shortcomings. The biggest of which is the LVM bug which prevents me from removing an lv (it says it is still mounted and it definitely isnt). I thought this was just a centos bug but it appears to be evident in debian and ubuntu too and I really can''t

RE: RedHat DomU hanging
Hello, Maybe someone can help me.... I have a guest XEN image that ran well until today. I use an LVM partition to host the guest and today on Dom0 I added another LVM to be available to this domU. This were all the commands I issued : On hypervisor lvcreate -n lintra02data -L 30G rootvg vi /etc/xen/lintra02 and add volume to file like this : disk = [

can't boot after volume rename
I renamed my volume with vgrename however I didn't complete the other steps. Mainly update fstab and intiramfs. Once I booted, I was dropped on the Dracut shell. From here I can see the newly rename VG and I can lvm lvscan as well as activate it, lvm vgchange -ay. However I can't figure out what to do next, I'm assuming I need to regenerate the initramfs and then boot to change

SAMBA eats up all memory...
Hello, I am running SAMBA 2.0.7.0 on AIX 4.3.3.0 I have a 1 Tera Byte filesystem on AIX made available to NT and MAC. There is heavy IO activity on this filesystem and all of a sudden the NT's and MAC's can't read or write any file on this shared filesystem. Also AIX is running out of memory whenever this happens and files cannot be copied onto the said filesystem even at unix

Centos-6.8 fsck and lvms
I have a CentOS-6.8 system which has a suspected HHD failure. I have booted it into rescue mode from a CentOS-6.5 minimal install CD in order to run fsck -c on it. The system hosts several vms. I have activated the lvs associated with these vm using pvscan -s ; vgscan ; vgchange -ay. An lvscan shows the lvs as ACTIVE. None are mounted. When I try to run fsck on any of them I see the

LVM thin volumes fstrim operation not supported
Hi All I'm trying to setup my LVM thin pool to support discards so that the pool can reclaim space even if the underlying device doesn't support trim. It is my understanding that all thin pools should support trim even if the underlying device doesn't. (please correct me if I'm wrong here) I have one centos server that does support trim and everything is working correctly but any

Un Installing a hard drive in a Centos 5.1 box
Hi Guys, I'm fairly new to Linux and I'm trying to un install a hard drive from my Centos 5.1 box running KDE. When I built the PC, I installed two 500 gig maxtors in the tower, then I installed Centos. Now I've decided that I want to remove the slave drive and use it as an external backup drive - I am mounting it into one of those external drive cases with a built in fan. When I

LVM and hotswap (USB/iSCSI) devices?
Hi list, I'm having one of those 'I'm stupid' -problems with LVM on CentOS 5.2. I've been working with traditional partitions until now, but I've finally been sold on the theoretical benefits of using LVM, but for now I only have a huge pile of broken filesystems to show for my efforts. My scenario; I attach a disk, either over USB or iSCSI. I create a PV on this

Resizing est4 filesystem while mounted
Greetings - I had a logical volume that was running out of space on a virtual machine. I successfully expanded the LV using lvextend, and lvdisplay shows that it has been expanded. Then I went to expand the filesystem to fill the new space (# resize2fs -p /dev/vde1) and I get the results that the filesystem is already xx blocks long, nothing to do. If I do a # df -h, I can see that the

LVM thin volumes fstrim operation not supported
I still get the "the discard operation is not supported" fstrim error when the LVs are set to "nopassdown" Seems that when I use ext4 the fstrim reports that it worked but the LVs Data% does not decrease after the fstrim. xfs just throws the error. I've also been looking at the output of lsblk -D # lsblk -D NAME DISC-ALN DISC-GRAN DISC-MAX DISC-ZERO xvdb

CentOS 7 - xfs shrink & expand
I'm having some difficulty finding a method to shrink my /home to expand my /.? They both correspond to LVMs.? It is my understanding that one cannot shrink a xfs filesystem.? One must back it up (xfsdump), remove (lvremove) redefine it and then restore it back (xfsrestore). Okay, I'm running into a problem where /home? needs to be "unused".? If tried going in to
