possible additional comment regarding newer PHP
again, from here:
http://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS5
regarding a newer version of PHP, a number of PHP experts that i know
of suggest that, if you truly need an up-to-date version of PHP, you
should:
rpm -ivh http://rpms/famillecollet.com/enterprise/remi-release-5.rpm
while remi collet's repo isn't official, it's accepted by numerous
developers as a reliable source of newer PHP

how to push the bounds and get newer packages for centos 5.4?
i've just started looking after a (virtual) centos 5.4 server that's
hosted at rackspace and, unsurprisingly, it was set up with all the
standard defaults. part of the work i'll be doing involves php and,
as i read it, the standard php version with centos 5.4 is php-5.1.
if i *wanted* to move up to a more recent version (say, php-5.3),
obviously, i'd need to go outside the

Why are all repos < 5.6 listed?
Greetings all.
I just enabled all repos on my system, to enable me to find
a particular package. This is the first time I have noticed
all the Centos repos < 5.6 being listed.
Is this a new feature, to include all repos pre 5.6 now?
Here's the output of the aforementioned yum command - sorry
it's a little bit long:
[root at karsites ~]# yum --enablerepo '*' --disablerepo

[OT?] diffs between mysql 5.0 and 5.1, and upgrading to mysql 5.1?
being used to mysql 5.1 on my fedora system, i'm suddenly looking
after a centos 5.4 box with mysql 5.0.77. before i start digging into
the mysql 5.0-5.1 changelog, do i have a lot to worry about in terms
of mentally backing up one version? or is simply upgrading the centos
box to mysql 5.1 an option? (i realize that mysql 5.1 is *not*
officially supported in centos 5.4.)

Thanks for having worked on this
And sorry for very late comment (I have missed this discussion)
The solution described in this howto also works on CentOS 6 using the
backported mod_proxy_fcgi available in EPEL.

MySQL repositores
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Are there any repositories for CentOS 5.5 that keep the latest MySQL
versions?
After enabling everything I can think off (CentOS, rpmforge, epel), I'm
still only seeing 5.0.77-4.el5_5.4.
5.5 came out yesterday and 5.1 has been around for a while.
I don't want to manually install from the mysql site for obvious reasons.

I have subscribe to centosplus for packages like mysql5 and php5. I
have the following MySQL packages installed
[root at charlie ~]# rpm -qa | grep mysql

Centosplus
Are there any gotchas with doing a MySQL5 upgrade from the centosplus
repostitory? Can this be done as an update via yum or do I need to
uninstall and the install? There wasn't anything on this in the
readme.txt file.
Thanks,
John Hinton

another small glitch regarding 3rd party repos -- samba sernet link broken
(sorry, i'm not *trying* to be a pain, i am merely succeeding.)
once again, here:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories
there's a reference to "The SerNet Samba 3 Repository" -- that link is
broken, the directory structure over at
http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/ has changed somewhat.
also, the current dirs over there go up to samba 3.4 but, as of
today,

Php 5.2.x support ends
Thinking of just sitting on this for awhile? Thoughts?
Last release for PHP 5.2 & updates for 5.3
PHP Logo The users of PHP 5.2 should upgrade to 5.3 at their earliest
convenience, as the active support of the 5.2 series came to an end with the
release of version 5.2.14 earlier today. PHP 5.2.0 was released almost four
years ago and according to the release announcement,

CENTOS 6 3rd party repos compared to Centos 5?
Is there any differences between the repos used by Centos
5.8 and those used by Centos 6.x please - ie does C6 use the
same 3rd party repos as C5 does?
Is there a Centos wiki article for C6 repos?
Kind Regards,
Keith

problem with package function and removing rpms
I have a recipe that I''m ensuring that I remove rpms that may be
installed by CentOS/RHEL before I install the MySQL.com rpms.
the recipe and logs are listed below. For testing I have mysql-* rpms
already installed.
Is there a method to force specific order to run the recipe?
What am I doing wrong?
# install mysql rpms (not CentOS/RHEL vesions)
# PROCESS:

PowerDNS binaries on centosplus?
Hi everyone,
How does one go about putting a request for getting a package included
in centosplus? We are heavy users the product PowerDNS and are keen to
see that be included in the centosplus repository, so it can be
compiled against other recent packages like MySQL5 etc.
Any pointers will be helpful

Suggested yum priorities settings for 3rd party repos
In the yum priorities page on the wiki Akemi Yagi suggests
http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities
[base], [addons], [updates], [extras] ... priority=1
[centosplus],[contrib] ... priority=2
Third Party Repos ... priority=N (where N is > 10 and
based on your preference)
If you have rpmforge, kbs, epel all set up at 10 then wouldn't
those also potentially overwrite

PHP 7.x on CentOS 7 : which solution ?
Hi,
As you all know, CentOS 7 is shipping PHP 5.4, which is OK in some
situations. Unfortunately, some applications like OwnCloud require a
more recent version of PHP.
Up until recently, I've been using PHP 5.6 packages from the Webtatic
repository. Despite the bad press this third party repo seems to have,
it has been working perfectly for me for a few years. Here's the PHP 5.6
packages
