Markdown and Wikis
I would like to have a wiki that uses Markdown as the markup
language (or something very close), I've currently used PmWiki
and I really like it but there are some problems with using
Markdown so I'm interested to see if there is an alternative
that works better for me.
I've looked at wiki matrix and searched for and found the
following list
bitweaver, DekiWiki, DokuWiki, Friki,

Wiki Choices
I have selected 4 software packages for us to evaluate in order to
decide on the best possible engine for the much-requested cAos
Community Wiki. All 4 samples are now up and running for you to try
out, play around with, and evalute. The URL's are as follows:

Personal Wiki for CentOS
For ages I have been keeping docs and notes in Public Folders inside an Exchange server
and want to move this out to a more modern facility that allows tagging and searching via
a web interface for keywords so I can keep all my notes more organized.
Anyone have any personal recos for the slickest system to do this with. Given the nature of
my home setup, its routinely used to lab stuff up so I

CentOS-friendly wiki engine ?
Hi,
One of our local town halls has asked me to implement a wiki-based
website dedicated to ecological farming. The wiki is supposed to host a
variety of documents in text, video and audio format.
I've never used any wiki engines myself. Is there any one you can
recommend in particular ? I'm using CentOS 5 on the server, so I would
be glad to use a solution where I don't have to

Bagplot
Has anyone ported the Bagplot function by Rousseeuw, Ruts, and Tukey from S
to R? The S function comprises a script and a FORTRAN function. I assume
porting is relatively uncomplicated, but since I have not done any porting
before I would not want to invest the effort if a port is readily available.

money data types
What data type is best for storing currency? I''m trying to come up
with a reliable cross-database solution for rails that is not too
complicated. Since I''m going to have currency fields all over the
place, I''m not so sure that using two integer fields for each amount
would qualify as uncomplicated. I''d like to be able to use database
functions like SUM to

Centos backup tools
Hi all!
I'm building a raid box to use for backups, connectivity will be either
USB3 or esata.
Looking for suggestions on backup software I can use.
I know there's rsync, which may be a good solution. I also find backupPC
at epel, backintime also at epel, kbackup.
DejaDup looks interesting, but none of the repos I'm set up to use
shows it being available.

R Wiki and R-sig-wikii
Hello all,
This is to announce the creation of R-sig-wiki, a new R SIG (Special
Interest Group) mailing list dedicated to the elaboration and
maintenance of a R Wiki. You can subscribe at:
https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-sig-wiki. There is currently a
prototype for a new R Wiki at http://www.sciviews.org/_rgui/wiki
(temporary address). The main idea is to offer a site where users

the ongoing wait for centos 5.4
at the risk of picking at that scab a bit longer, i'm going to toss
out a comment regarding people still waiting for the public
availability of centos 5.4.
here:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2009-October/083743.html
we read:
"The last status (from twitter) is 2 days old with the '5.4 is baked!
centos internal network will start syncing up today. Release ~ soon!'.

Wikis etc.
I feel that as long as people continue to provide help on r-help wikis
will not be successful. I think we need to move to a central wiki or
discussion board and to move away from e-mail. People are extremely
helpful but e-mail seems to be to always be memory-less and messages get
too long without factorization of old text. R-help is now too active
and too many new users are asking

why no centos 5.3 or 5.4 online manuals?
i zipped over to centos.org to check out the 5.4 manuals, and what i
found was:
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/
which stops at 5.2. now, i don't really see this as a problem since i
can always get what i need here:
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/
i'm just curious as to whether centos is just not bothering to rebrand
the manuals since it's just as easy to get that info

OT: Web "Project" type software
Sorry for the OT... I'm looking for some software to fill a fairly
specific set of requirements. I'm not necessarily looking for project
software, but it seems like the closest to match what I need. I'm also
not tied into open source or free. If anyone knows of any software that
might fill these requirements I would appreciate it.
Here's what I'm looking for:

Pulling Hair Out - TWiki 4.2 on CentOS 5
I thought I would turn here before giving up. I am trying to install Twiki
4.2 on CentOS 5 with all updates. (I also tried Twiki 4.1.2 as well)
I am running a custom rolled Apache 2.2.8 server and custom rolled PHP 5.2.6
(built with oracle support). These work and are rock solid. I've been using
the same config with very heavy duty scripts and php applications with no
issues.

SMS Gateway .... for Rails app? (a bit OOT)
I''m simply looking for a SMS gateway... The ones like what Twitter uses...
The intended audience would be globally.
Some of you would have used them and I''d really appreciate if you could
share your experience.
I''ve Googled and the problem isn''t that there is none, the problem is
that there are simply too many. Almost like looking for a webhosting. So

Asterisk success stories in small-medium office environments?
I am the network administrator at a small (20-30 employee) financial
company. We are in the process of moving offices and will be obtaining
a VoIP phone system when we do. Right now, it's down to the 3com nbx100
series and *. Having lurked on *-user for a few weeks and having seen
the nifty features of asterisk, I'm convinced. The price difference has
pretty much sold my superiors.
