best parallel / cluster SSH
Hey folks,
I stumbled upon this while looking for something else
http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/151340
And it is something I could actually really make use of. But right on
that site they list 3 different ones, and so I'm wondering what all is
out there and what I should use.
Is there one that is part of the standard CentOS?
thanks,

LF examples - using site-specific RPMs for config
Hey folks,
A week or two ago someone mentioned something about using their own
home-grown RPMs for managing config info on their boxes.
I really like this idea and would like to learn more about it. Are
there some examples out there?
I have lots of custom config info and think this would be an ideal way
to manage it. Others mentioned puppet and CF engine which probably
have their merits as

Not sure whether ZFS now makes this OT - if so, sorry for not putting "OT:"
in the subject.
Anyway, I have a ZFS storage unit

Kickstarting several *different* setups
Ansible, Bcfg2, Chef, Cobbler, Puppet, and Salt; I notice that
Spacewalk is not mentioned. Any particular reason that it gets no
recommendations?
What about CFEngine? Any comments on this one?

41 server under puppet today
Hello there.
Just to let you know i have just put in production mode puppet on 41
freeBSD 4.7 virtual servers (yes not real servers but "jailed ones"). I
had some little problems with facter at first but i have manualy
upgraded the servers that where affected by the little "facter does not
read his facts" problem i had. I should have missed something in my
deploiement.

Spacewalk or Puppet?
I am a little new to managing large numbers of CentOS/RHEL servers and was wondering what you experienced sysadmins prefer, Spacewalk or Puppet?
Thanks,
Dan Burkland

freebsd service management redux
After reading the rc.subr(8) man page and Newburns''s article on the rc.d subsystem[1],
It''s clear that a rc.conf.d per service file structure is already natively supported on
FreeBSD.
I''ve verified this with my own testing:
# echo puppetmasterd_enable=\"YES\" > /etc/rc.conf.d/puppetmasterd
# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/puppetmasterd start

fixing partition alignment ?
Hi there,
I've discovered that most of the hard drives used in our cluster got
misaligned partitions, thus crippling perfs. Is there any way to fix
that without having to delete/recreate properly aligned partitions, then
format it and refill disks ?
I'd be glad not to have to toy with moving several 10s of TB disk by
disk :D (most disks are JBOD as we're using a fault tolerant network

system management - what do you use to manage your CentOS systems?
Greetings everyone.
Let me preface this with the following, I know this is not specific to
CentOS but I do value the input given by *many* of the users on this
list.
I can not think of a more appropriate place to ask these questions.
Let me just break down my setup:
20 CentOS 4 servers, all running apache.
The only things that are unique on each server are the network
settings and the apache

AMD Liano A8 Processors supported on CentOS 6.x?
Hi.
Red Hat is saying that AMD Liano A8 CPU's are not supported by
RHEL/CentOS 6: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/65431
Is that true? What can I expect if I try to install CentOS 6.3 on PC
with that CPU?

clamd / amavisd missing socket
I think something along these lines appeared before
but I was unable to find them.
I'm on a 7.6 system, been running clamav and amavisd-new
since 6 days with little problem. On a recent reboot,
clamd at amavisd does not start up and fails manual start.
The problem seems to be the missing socket that connects
the pair, "/var/run/clamd.amavisd/clamd.socket".
I believe this should

Allowing puppet to drop privileges for a manifest
Greetings,
Our environment consists of about 600 Redhat Enterprise Linux 3, 4, 5,
and soon 6 servers. We use cfengine 2 currently, but plan on
migrating to puppet. Right now, we have our root-owned cfengine
client running every 15 minutes from cron contacting a single cfservd
server. Additionally, our employees start their own cfengine and
puppet instances on on some servers running under
