question on managing multiple boxes
How do admins handle a situation with many boxes like 50 for example. If I wish to tell 50 boxes to run a handful of commands - how is that done? (I mean without actually logging into 1,2,3,4...X and executing the commands) Thanks, Jerry

Any idea how to install PDSH on CentOS 7?
Does anyone have any idea how to install PDSH on CentOS 7? PDSH seems to be completely missing from EPEL now, for CentOS 7. Is there another repository available where we can get PDSH? Thanks, Julius

New Introduction
Hi all, I''ve just rewritten the Puppet introduction from scratch: https://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetIntroduction I think it''s better, but I''m not convinced it''s a whole heckuva lot better. Comments are very much appreciated, especially if you can recommend a better approach to the document. I tried to organize it how I have been giving

Turn off client autoupdate
Hello! By default puppet node connects to server periodically and looks if there is something execute. I''m wondering is it possible to make puppet clients not connect to server themselves? So that it would be possible to update a node only with puppetrun nodename. --- WBR, Sergey -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users"

[Gluster3.2@Grid5000] 128 nodes failure and rr scheduler question
Hello, I'm driving some experiments on grid'5000 with GlusterFS 3.2 and, as a first point, i've been unable to start a volume featuring 128bricks (64 ok) Then, due to the round-robin scheduler, as the number of nodes increase (every node is also a brick), the performance of an application on an individual node decrease! So my question is : how to STOP the round-robin distribution

Multihomed question: want Lustre over IB andEthernet
Chris, Perhaps you need to perform some write_conf like command. I''m not sure if this is needed in 1.6 or not. Running on Dell hardware?
I have a Dell R710 which has been flaky for some time. It crashes about once per week. I have literally replaced every piece of hardware in it, and reinstalled Sol 10u9 fresh and clean. I am wondering if other people out there are using Dell hardware, with what degree of success, and in what configuration? The failure seems to be related to the perc 6i. For some period around the time

IOwaits over NFS
Hello. We have a number of Xen 3.4.2. boxes which have constant iowaits at around 10% with spikes up to 100% when accessing data over NFS. We have been unable to nail down the issue. Any advice? OT: SysAdmin Stories
Hello, I'm compiling a collection of stories from the systems administrator trenches. They can be short or long, funny or about a particularly challenging problem or period, or even something that appeared very technically challenging and ended up being something very simple. Stories which are more political would be ok so long as they do not have an agenda or can be interpreted as a

automated remote cloning
Good morning/day and Happy New Year. We have a geographically distributed environment (marketing speak: cloud) where we regularly need to migrate individual systems to new hardware (for bigger disks or for better geographical placement, for example). We currently use Cobbler to do our base installs automatically and I am now looking at integrating Clonezilla with Cobbler. The goal is take an

filesize limitation in CentOS or exim?
Hallo, today I had a surprising situation. Exim stopped. It's a German centos 5.3 64 Bit installation so the messages are partial in German. Then I tried a restart: [root at centos ~]# service exim restart exim beenden: [FEHLGESCHLAGEN] exim starten: /bin/bash: line 1: 6596 Die maximale Dateigr??e ist ?berschritten

dm-multipath use
Are folks in the Centos community succesfully using device-mapper-multipath? I am looking to deploy it for error handling on our iSCSI setup but there seems to be little traffic about this package on the Centos forums, as far as I can tell, and there seems to be a number of small issues based on my reading the dm-multipath developer lists and related resources. -geoff Geoff Galitz Blankenheim

delete files
Is there any way to specify a file to be deleted on the remote side explicitly by name? I would have thought that deleting the file locally, the rsyncing the non-existing file with --del would have resulted in the remote file, which does exist being deleted. I have a general purpose script that my developers use to push updates from a devel box to all production boxes. It's essentially

[3.3 beta3] When should the self-heal daemon be triggered?
Hi, I eventually installed three Debian unstable machines, so I could install the GlusterFS 3.3 beta3. I have a question about the self-heal daemon. I'm trying to get a volume which is replicated, with two bricks. I started up the volume, wrote some data, then killed one machine, and then wrote more data to a few folders from the client machine. Then I restarted the second brick server.
