Skype For CentOS 6.4
Hey all. Does anyone know if there is a newer version of Skype than
skype-2.1.0.81 available for CentOS 32 bit? Recent updates to Skype on
other platforms has been causing video connection issues in the last few
weeks.

Proposed change to HowTos/Skype
In the section for CentOS-5, it would be nice if the following
alternative method for running Skype on CentOS-5 were presented:
You can download a statically linked version of Skype which will work
in CentOS-5 from
http://download.skype.com/linux/skype_static-2.1.047.tar.bz2
I think it's a little bit silly that the first recommendation for
running skype on CentOS-5 is to install a new

Format for giving examples of commands
Hello,
Is there a standard format for quoting examples of commands to be
entered by the user?
I've given the following example commands:
cd /tmp
wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-static
cd /opt
tar xjvf /tmp/skype_static-4.0.0.7.tar.bz2
rm /tmp/skype_static-4.0.0.7.tar.bz2
ln -s skype_staticQT-4.0.0.7 skype
Someone changed them to add prompts:
[root at host]# cd /tmp

Skype version for CentOS 5.3
Which is the best version of skype to install in CentOS 5.3? skype.i586
2.0.0.72-fc5 from the skype repo or skype 2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm from
the 'skype for linux beta' downloads section of the skype website?

[FYI] skype-2.0.0.72.nosrc.rpm
Greetings!
I have been using statically linked skype for a while, but found it
uncofortable to install it in contraversion of rpm db, so I decided to
package it. You can get nosrc.rpm here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4043330/skype-2.0.0.72-1.nosrc.rpm
You can rebuild it in usual way, like that:
Install rpmbuild (if it's not installed yet):
sudo yum install rpmbuild

Winecfg does not notice my headphones - only mic (USB Headset) / No 'Mixer Devices' in Alsa - only OSS
Hi,
I've been struggling to get everything going fine for a while now.
Finally I can talk clearly and hear people.
Problem is it was coming through my speakers connected to an external
USB Sound Card; if I set it to come through my USB Headset, it comes
through speakers anyway.
I unplugged USB sound card and restarted computer.
Now I tried again. This time I simply do not hear sound.

skype on 5.7
Earlier last year I had a 5.7 system running with skype. It worked
fine. Later last year I had to reinstall my entire system. I didn't
install skype then. Yesterday I tried to find a version of skype to use
on 5.7, but couldn't find one on skype.com; there's no version for
RH/CentOS 5.7. Does anyone know where a working skype can be found?
Thanks.

Is there a way to force the usage of a mixer?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello,
Is there a way to force Wine to use a particular mixer? I'm not
getting any sound via my USB audio in Ubuntu, and I'm wondering if
this is because WINE is attempting to use my VIA audio mixer rather
than USB Audio (which it does list within winecfg's audio tab for both
ALSA and OSS).
Any ideas of other things I can try to

Forcing Wine To Use Audio Device/Mixer
Well, I've got multiple sound devices on my system (integrated HDA SB ATI sound card, headset connected to USB sound card, and my webcam's built-in mic). Unfortunately, Wine does not always use my integrated sound device for some reason. So, instead it will do one of two things: go to the headset or the webcam. Going to the webcam is an auto-fail, and if it goes to the headset it

GUI volume control/mixer in C6??
Just bringing up a Centos-6 (x86_64, FWIW) and I can't find the mixer app...
on my C5 box(es), double click on the speaker icon in the top panel and I
get a mixer app appears on the screen.
My new C6 box doesn't do that. I've installed all the PULSEAUDIO RPMS I can
find, but still nothing.
what am I missing here?
thanks!

No sound with alsa and Nvidia HDMI
Hi,
I cannot get wine to recognize my audio device (Nvidia GT210 w/HDMI).
No other sound card is enabled. The right device for sound is hw:0,3. Alsa's speakertest works fine. Pulseaudio is completely removed from my system. Also Wine's pulse package is removed even though the trace still has some references to pulseaudio.
Winecfg displays only MIDI devices under ALSA. Direct Sound options

Hello,
I can't get the sound over alsa to work with Asterisk.
My current version is 1.4.21.2~dfsg-3 running on debian stable.

load => chan_alsa.so
noload => chan_oss.so
/etc/asterisk/alsa.conf:
input_device=default
output_device=default

Skype on CentOS 5 - my microphone settings are incorrect
Note: The Wiki for Skype needs a tiny update.
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype
It's not a Beta now. Last night, I downloaded and
installed skype-2.0.0.63-centos.i586.rpm
The Skype web site calls this a "Gold" release.
I'm having the same problem I had when I tried to use the Skype Beta.
It's not picking up audio from the microphone. The hardware works
fine, when I'm

alsa 1.0.11 compile on 4.3
anyone compiled alsa 1.0.11 on 4.3? I get errors compileing alsa-drivers.
Thanks for any suggestions if you have done it.
Anyone can try it download from http://alsa-project.org and doing
the extract, ./configure and make. With out the make install nothing
should be
affected on your system if you dont want to use the new version.
Thanks,
jerry
