totem fails to open .wmv file
Hey All,
Totem has stopped playing .wmv files recently. I don't know exactly
when this happened, but I know I've played .wmv files not too very long
ago. I've got 372 .wmv files all of which I've played at one time.
When I try to launch any one of the .wmv files from file manager totem
pops up but the controls are not functional.
If I start totem from a terminal there is no

mp3 plugin for Rythmbox or Totem?
Can anybody please suggest a suitable plugin to enable playing of mp3
files with either Totem or Rythmbox. Both of these come as part of the
CentOS 5 package, but strangely neither has the necessary plugin for
mp3, which surely is a common enough format in the music world?
Thanks,
Andy

Viewing QT .mov files in Totem
CentOS-5.1
Is there anything special one must do to get the Totem shipped with CentOS-5
to display .mov files? When I try to view a file I get an error box with the
message:
  Totem could not play 'file:///tmp/073_complex_forms_part_1.mov'.
                    Could not decode stream."
# rpm -qi totem

Totem needs plug-ins
Just tried to play a movie/DVD and Totem (what automatically popped up
when I inserted the DVD) said it needed plug-ins... it didn't say which
plug-ins. The website listed in the help page no longer exists. I have
four of the gstreamer packages and libdvdcss installed, but I guess
there's something more needed.
Anyone know?
tia for the tips.

Hi guys,
Could you please share some details on
how to get totem-xine running on CentOS?
I believe this could be interesting to a number of people
on the list, not just me.

Totem Can't Read .wmv Files
When I try to read a .wmv file, I get the error message:
"Totem could not play 'file://tmp/F15.wmv'. You do not have a
decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the
necessary plugins.'
Granted that I am missing something, what is it, and where do I get it /
install it?
Thanks in advance -- Bob T.

Best RH/FC version for dvd rip?
Greetings:
I'd like to bring up a CentOS-3.3 system to use for multi-media purposes.
One of the packages I'm installing is dvdrip and all it's dependant
packages (libdv, libdvdcss, libdvdread, avifile, & transcode).
I'm hunting down the packages on freshrpms.net and I notice that there
are packages available for FC1, FC2 & FC3.
Question: Which FC version should I use

totem-nautilus and totem - mp3 duration
I have both totem-nautilus and the assorted gstreamer-plugins installed for
playing mp3 files through Totem.
I note that Totem doesn't appear to know the duration of an mp3. For example,
if I right-click on a wav or ogg file and click on the audio tab, one of the
fields is Duration and it tells me how long that file will play.
If I do the same with a mp3 file the duration field is always 0

errors on multimedia guidance for x86_64
I have a fresh install of 5.4 x86_64 from a dvd .iso. All has worked
well for several days, including kvm and WinXP running in a vm.
Decided it was time to get the multimedia stuff up and running so I
could listen to music CDs and watch DVD movies while working. I
followed the guidance on the "Tips and Tricks" page for multimedia. Had
no problem with the "priorities" or the

DVD support on CentOS 5.1
Hello out there!

Been around the block trying to get DVD support for Totem, but I keep
running into dead ends everywhere I go. Looking for CentOS 5.1-compatible
xine and xine-lib packages as that seems to be the answer, but the only ones
I find (like on DAG) seem to be just dead links or I get a message that the
mirrors are unavailable when I try to run the rpm.

Can anyone provide a link

Error on sound files with totem removed
I decided to go ahead and remove totem (don't much care for it
anyway), and when I double-click a sound file in nautilus, it runs
mplayer to play the file, but I also get an error window (from
mplayer) that says "[AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device
/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy" but it is playing the sound file
just fine. I can close the error window and everything

playing DVDs on C7
Hi all!
I'm trying to finish setting up my newly upgraded C7 system.
It's on the same hardware I ran C6 on for several years. on C6 I had no
trouble playing DVDs (after installing tons of packages and libdvdcss).
Well, on C7, I've got totem (videos) and all its plugins I can find
via yum, VLC (from nux) all the gstreamer and gstreamer1 packages I
can find, everything with

What the heck is a "text/html decoder"
My phone service provider offers a way to check my voicemail via a webpage. However, when I go to that webpage with Firefox and try to play back a saved message, a window pops up that says this:
"The following plugin is required: text/html decoder"
What is it looking for and how can I install it? I already have these totem rpms:

Sound drop out with totem. mplayer Can't open audio device /dev/dsp
Hey all.
This morning I found that my audio playback is randomly sprinkled with
sound skips and dropouts. I went to /var/log/yum.log and found this:
Feb 09 20:18:22 Updated: lame-3.99.4-2.el6.rf.i686
I'm not saying that caused the problem but it's all I could find that
changed.
When I ls in /dev there is no dsp entry.
That would explain why mplayer Can't open audio device

make swfdec a gstreamer backend?
Hi,
I don't know much about gstreamer internals so I'm not sure.. The idea
just appeared in my mind. Is it possible to make swfdec a gstreamer
plugin? Totem then can play swf files. Totem already has a plugin for
Epiphany so we don't have to write another plugin for epiphany. I
don't know how gstreamer handle interative input though.

7.1 FLAC...But hao?
I know I've read about it under the FAQ and other various forums a
dozen times, FLAC is able to encode up to 8 channels. But has anyone
actually tried to do this?
I ran across this nifty 7.1 wav sample courtesy of Microsoft.

For some reason the channel mask was incorrectly set to 0x3f, so I
manually changed
