Samba 3.0.11 on Red Hat RHAS3
To answer my own question of a week or so ago, as to whether RHAS3 users had got 3.0.11 to compile and execute (I had a plethora of errors): The Red Hat 3.0.11 SRPM from the Samba site compiled cleanly and runs fine (daemons and utilities) on my RHAS3 test rig, and on a RHAS3 update 4 production NAS server doubling as a Samba 3 server with 1150+ users of Unix/Linux and soon PDC Windows services.

High l-avg with centos 4.8 on G2 only
Hi We deployed centos 4.8 on HP DL380 G2, G3 and G4 servers (same number of cpus). The same software is running on all servers. Only on G2 servers we see a low cpu utilization combined with high load-average. For example, during the same time of day and same workload, on a G2 I see a l-avg of 11.31 and on a G4 I see 2.68. The server response time seems unchanged and we don't have any problem

Basic problem with Samba 3.0.11 PDC on Samba Red Hat RHAS3 ACL srpm.
People have been experiencing problems with the subject line. AFAICS most of them haven't bothered to follow selected bits of the HOWTO. However, the former excludes all references to the idealx scripts, which I cannot use, since my DIT is set up completely differently from the idealx concept. I write my own, disjointed, shell and awk OpenLDAP scripts. Neither on my RHAS3 test rig (config as

ZFS slows down over a couple of days
Hi all, I have exchanged my Dell R610 in favor of a Sun Fire 4170 M2 which has 32 GB RAM installed. I am running Sol11Expr on this host and I use it to primarily serve Netatalk AFP shares. From day one, I have noticed that the amount of free RAM decereased and along with that decrease the overall performance of ZFS decreased as well. Now, since I am still quite a Solaris newbie, I seem to

arcstat updates
Hi ZFSers, I''ve been working on merging the Joyent arcstat enhancements with some of my own and am now to the point where it is time to broaden the requirements gathering. The result is to be merged into the illumos tree. arcstat is a perl script to show the value of ARC kstats as they change over time. This is similar to the ideas behind mpstat, iostat, vmstat, and friends. The current

My CentOs 4.1 desktop starts to freez ( non-responsive) with 100% cpu usage
It starts to become a non-responsive from time to time with 100% cpu usage eventhough there is no applications running except a browser. I have been running centos 4 for the past 6 months without any problem with regular update. Now, I have to reboot whenever it shows signs of a non-response. It starts to exhibit this behaviour a cople of days ago. I could not figure it out the reason and need

Compile on RHAS/RHEL3?
List, both on RHAS3 update3, update 4, Samba source code 3.0.9 thru 11 gives SIGSEGVs on make check. Installing the buggers and trying to run them gives the same. *THOUGH*. The Red Hat beta 3.0.9 srpm at fr2.rpmfind.net comples and runs "like a little sun" ("net als een zonnetje", in Dutch). Anyone compiled Samba 3.0.11 on Red Hat RHAS3/RHEL3? Not "how", just

RAID on Email Server
I have an email server running Exim, Dovecot, Spamassassin, Clam, etc. on Centos 4.x 32bit. On occasion I have disk I/O problems. Its handling several domains and alot of email. Its currently on a single SATA drive. I am thinking of moving too 3 drives with RAID 1 for redundancy. RAID 1 will help me on reads but do nothing on writes as I understand. I am thinking the majority of my I/O is

High load
Hi Is there a way to nail down the issue of high load on a server basically trying to understand the reason behind high load at a specific time period. I use top command but it does not have history. Nagios reports saying "*[04-25-2012 10:11:00] SERVICE ALERT: dev;LOAD;WARNING;HARD;3;WARNING - load average: 6.88, 6.36, 5.71"* * * Please help me understand. Regards Kaushal

Gluster machines slowing down over time
I have 2 gluster servers in replicated mode on EC2 with ~4G RAM CPU and RAM look fine but over time the system becomes sluggish, particularly networking. I notice when sshing into the machine takes ages and running remote commands with capistrano takes longer and longer. Any kernel settings people typically use? Thanks, Tom -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

Hyldest
Means "acclaim" in both Norwegian languages (there are new official rules out today for writing both of the 2 Indo-European Norwegian languages). What made me write this acclaim is the number of postings I've seen about Samba's instability - i.e. run-away processes, profiles going wrong, ACL problems and more. My (high school) site with around 80 w2k workstations, of which

OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

Samba performance issues
Hi all We are implementing samba-ldap to act as an nt pdc and are seeing performance problems. We have a 1ghz, 3gb Ram, 36gb box that is running samba-2.2.5 and openldap-2.0.23 under redhat 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3. Clients are all Win2k SP3. All the ldap requests are to the localhost interface. The box is acting as the PDC for the domain, and also sharing diskspace and printers. When we get

Weird performance problem
Hi, I'm running a CentOS 4. server and I sometimes face a weird problem. It is a weird performance problem, and here is how I discovered it. This server runs OpenVZ virtual machines, and one of them is an asterisk server for my personal use. The first symptom of the problem is that the voice quality became flaky. So I logged on the server to see what could be eating cpu cycles, when I

multiple messages per second to a single mailbox
Dovecot 2.2.18 on CentOS 6 I have a pair of servers setup with MySQL, Postfix, and Dovecot. Replication is setup and working between the two dovecot instances. The problem I'm running into is that a single mailbox receives a lot of messages, at times the rate is multiple messages per second. Delivery from Postfix to Dovecot is via tcp based LMTP. When I do 'ps -aef|grep lmtp|wc

raid6: rmw writes all the time?
Hi all, we got a new test system here and I just also tested btrfs raid6 on that. Write performance is slightly lower than hw-raid (LSI megasas) and md-raid6, but it probably would be much better than any of these two, if it wouldn''t read all the during the writes. Is this a known issue? This is with linux-3.9.2. Thanks, Bernd -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line

disk performance on server migrated
hi. i was migrated an old woody samba server to a new lenny samba virtualized server. That server is a PDC with random profiles and file server. Some users are reporting me bad performance in the app shared (all developed on MS-ACCESS). the memory and cpu reports in the domU show all fine, but i have some doubts in the disk performance. The dom0 is a Dell PowerEdge T610 (2 cpu Intel Xeon, 8GB

Question on how to get Samba to use larger pread/write calls.
We are testing Samba 3 (and 4) on Fedora Core 13, 10Gbit connection with a Mac OS 10.6.4 system as the client. We will be adding some Windows machines sooner or later with 10Gbit interfaces. We are seeing 100-150MBytes/sec read or write performance between the Mac and the FC13 system over 10Gbit interface but it should be capable of 400-500MBytes/sec. We have a local raid on the FC13 system

Adding RAM
I have a server running Centos 4.7 32bit. Will moving from 4Gig of RAM to 8Gig do any good? Since its 32bit I assume it will only be able to address the first 4Gig not? When I installed CentOS I did not do anything special to enable using more then 4Gig if thats required. Exim, spamassassin and Clamd seem to be the biggest load on this machine. My biggest bottle neck is disk I/O anyway. Wish
