grub.conf and /proc/cmdline
I have a grub.conf (below) with pci=nomsi, also /proc/cmdline and dmesg
| more
do not show the pci=nomsi.
How can this be? there are no strange characters after quiet and before
pci=nomsi.
It was edited with vi.
What can I do to get this parameter in my kernel boot line.

Is it safe to run only the XEN kernel on dom0 host?
Hi,
I have an issue with my XEN servers, in that when I do a yum upgrade,
it upgrades the kernels, and then updates the grub.conf file to boot
with the normal Linux kernel, and not the XEN kernel - and I tend to
forget to update the grub.conf, until I reboot and see XEN isn't
running.
So, is it safe to remove the normal kernel & kernel-development, and
only run the XEN kernel?

Centos 5.5, not booting latest kernel but older one instead
I've been going along not noticing things happening right under my nose.
so imagine my surprise when I discovered last night that my Centos 5 box
has installed multiple new kernels over the last few months, as updates
come out, and IT IS NOT BOOTING THE NEWST ONE.
grub.conf says to boot kernel 0, and 0 is the newest one. but the one it
actually boots is 6 or 8 down the list (clearly I've

Greeter Application Problems
Many times when i boot my Xen machine i get a message saying something like "The greeter application has failed many times, using alternative greeter." From there on I can do everything OK as far as i can see. Sometimes when i boot the machine, it just randomly restarts halfway through the boot process. It has also been crashing alot lately when i try to run it 24/7. Any ideas?

Cannot boot into xen kernel
Hello all,
I am sort of new to XEN and I have a dedicated server that is hosted for
me. This server is an intel single quad 4 with 4 gig of ram. The OS is
Centos 5 completely updated. I have installed XEN from the add and
remove applet within Centos. Here is my grub.conf:

Xen Installation problems
Hello Xen Users,
I am facing a problem getting my installation of XEN boot up on a Red
Hat Linux Guest OS. What''s happening is that the grub loader tries to
install Xen but after a while it crashes and starts rebooting
recursively. I have tried both the entries listed below. I am using the
following entries in the grub.conf file:

xen kernel panics at boot
Hi. I am trying to install xen 2.0.5 and am having problems getting the
xen kernel to boot. It seems to come up, recognize the PCI bus info,
the CPU, memory, and such, and then halts when it gets to trying to
mount NFS. It then asks for a boot floppy.
My guess is that it is not finding the / partition. The actual kernel
panic string, I don''t have because the screen blanks so

grub problems
This is irritating: I've got a server I just upgraded to 5.4, then
rebooted, only to discover that it just *sits* there at the grub boot
menu. I looked at grub.conf, and uncommented hiddenmenu (which should have
been done long ago).
It *still* sits there when I reboot. Any clues, folks?

Missing module grub entry in xen-4.4.3-9 & boot issues
I've also had a few Xen systems grub entry issues. I'm not yet sure what
triggers the events, but I do think there *may* be a correlation to the
"/boot" part. I've found the Xen servers that have "/boot" before any of
the the lines like "/boot/xen.gz" ended up missing complete grub entries.
Not sure it's 100% true. Anyone else comment?
Thanks

I used VMware Standalone converter 5.5 to convert a CentOS 5.3 machine from

Migrating from KVM to XEN - kernel panic
First let me say that I'm not a sysadmin, but am simply wearing that hat
this week so please excuse my ignorance. I need to temporarily move some
virtual servers from a CentOS-KVM platform to a CentOS-XEN platform while I
do some upgrades to the CentOS box. I've created a local LV, and used DD
and SCP to transfer the block device from the VKM machine to the XEN
machine. For quite a

Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Hello Xen users,
I tried to install Xen 3.1.0 on Scientific Linux (RHEL4), but this
mission failed.. Hope you can help me by finding the reason for my problem.
I downloaded the xen sources from
http://bits.xensource.com/oss-xen/release/3.1.0/src.tgz/xen-3.1.0-src.tgz
and compiled them by running "make" and "./install.sh". This seemed to
work.
