smb panic when trying to use printer (samba 3.3.11/CentOS5.4)
Hi everyone,
I recently wanted to try Samba 3.3.11 for CentOS 5.4. At first, I
tried the Sernet packages then I compiled my own packages but in both
cases, I get the same error messages (SMB?PANIC) when I try to
install/delete/use printers in Samba. At first, I thought this was a
right issue on filesystem (due to messages "Permission denied" in
logs), so I change many rights at many

Problems compiling PostgreSQL package from FC8 on CentOS 5
Dear CentOS list
we are a small software company making mostly web driven GIS software.
We started to simplify out sysadmin life making RPM packages of most of
the GIS software stack. For a dependency issue we had to abandon the
upstream 8.1 PostgreSQL and install at least a 8.2 version. Taking the
package from Fedora 8 and rebuilding it for x86_64 went smoothly.
Unfortunatly the same is

VMWare ESXi & CentOS5.4
I have a brand new Dell Poweredge T310 server with 4G ram and 1TB
raid-5 hard drive in it. I Really only need to be able to run a copy
of CentOS 5.4 on it, but I'm wondering if in the build process should
I stick on ESXi 4 and then run CentOS as a vm? This would give me the
options to roll out other VM's if I want over the life of the server
(which I likely won't need) but the

CentOS 5.4 is around the corner ...
So this time we we've been a bit faster than during the last two
releases (5.3 and 4.8). Which means: We would like you to get working on
the fantastic and fabulous CentOS Release Notes again!
This time you can find the first stub at
http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS5.4
which will change over the next few days - so keep alert!
I'd like to thank you for all the work you

A problem about upgrade centos5.2
hi,
i made a mistake that i used centos5.4 i686 to upgrade the centos 5.2 x86_64,which runs on a server whose cpu is Xeon. The server seems to need CentOS X86_64 version. Should i use the?CentOS 5.4 X86_64 disk to upgrade the CentOS 5.4 i 686?
Ps.I urgently need to upgrade it because the glibc x86_64 conflicts with the i686 one....It drives me crazy and i am hitting my head against the wall...

Contos3->5 upgrade, smbmount is gone?
I solemnly puke upon people who break things and call it progress. Get
ye to Redmond.
I upgraded Centos3.8 to Centos5.4; smbmount is gone. Mounting a WinXP
share requires a new instantiation of the old command
smbmount \\\\hostname\\path\\to\\share /local/mount/point -o
ip=123.12.34.234,username=hostname\\my_userid,password=whatever
which should now be
mount -t cifs <somebody please

problem with 5.4 x86_64 DVD iso?
Hi all,
I downloaded the 5.4 x86_64 DVD ISO this morning (CentOS-5.4-x86_64-bin-DVD.iso). However, the md5sum and sha1sums both don't match what's in the md5sum.txt or the release notes (http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS5.4). I downloaded two ISOs from two different mirrors, RIT and ANL, and both ISOs have the same checksums (match each other), which are different from

yum erase fails
I am trying to erase an rpm with yum erase. It fails:
service hipfw does not support chkconfig
Removed: hipl-firewall.i386 0:1.0.4.1
Complete!
And it is not removed....
If I try with rpm -e, I get the same error message.
So how do I remove this rpm?
