openldap-2.3.43 and db4-utils - DB_VERSION_MISMATCH
Hi, I just started to set up a test ldap server and followed some tutorials. One topic is the tuning/monitoring of the bdb. So I installed the db4-utils and executed a "db_stat -h /var/lib/ldap/ -m". The answere is no stat, but: db_stat: Program version 4.3 doesn't match environment version db_stat: DB_ENV->open: DB_VERSION_MISMATCH: Database environment version mismatch The

How many gusets can I run with Centos 5.2
Hi, how many gusets can I run with Centos 5.2? RH EL 5 is limeted to 4 guests while the advanced server is unlimeted. We like to migrate a couple of small physical servers and some test/development-systems to virtual systems. Thanks for any hints. sum and limit quota for multiple filesystems/mountpoints
Hi, is there any way to sum and limit quotas for one user across multiple filesystems? E.g. I'd like to use different mountpoints on a mailserver for /var/mail and /home but the user should have only a total of 1GB. or on a samba server the windows profile files should be on an other filesystem as other files for that user. no valid partitiontables anymore
Hi, recently I had to shut down an iscsi-raid an the connected servers. After the reinstallation and changing the ip config to match our new lan design, I can login to the iscsi device, the volumes are there and I can establish an iscsi link to some volumes. But, some other volumes on the iscsi device are reported with an invalid partition table or that they can't be mounted. e.g.: fdisk

Any suggestions for backing up an imap server and whould maildir or dbox be better than mbox?
Hi, we run a Red Hat EL 5.2 mailserver with dovecot as the imap server. Mails are stored in mbox format and there are about 134GB of mail. At the moment users copy their importent mail to their workstation accounts wich are backed up nightly. What are your suggestions to back up the mails not copied? Thanks for any comments. lot's of timeouts
Hi, since some time ago we do have a lot of "timeouts" connecting to our imap/po3 server. This week I switched the whole system to a new dual quadcore xeon, 24GB RAM, SAS2 RAID-10. (SUN Fire 4170) But the mailclients (mostly thunderbird and apple mail) still reporte the timeouts by accessing the mailboxes. The server is doing smtp, imap/pop3, webmailsystem and spam/antivirus-checking

Silent migration from mbox to maildir?
Hi, after migrating to a new hardware (which is soo soooo mutch faster than the old one) I start to think about migrating from mbox to maildir. I'v read some docs and wikies and some questions are unanswered or maybe I skip the answers: - Is it possible to migrate the mboxes "silent" e.g. if a user logs in the mbox is converted? - regarding the Namespaces wiki article, it is

Best practice settings for channel bonding interface mode?
Hi, may be there are some best practice suggestions for the "best mode" for channel bonding interface? Or in other words, when should/would I use which mode? E.g. I do have some fileservers connected to the users lan and to some ISCSI Storages. Or some Webservers only connected to the LAN. The switches are all new cisco models. I've read sone docs (1), (2) and (3) so the theory

iptables ... *BSD pf ... pfSense
Hi, I followed the "Optimizing CentOS for gigabit firewall" posting and as some posters wrote pf is soo sooo ssooooo mutch faster, I was thinking to give it a try. But I'm not familier to BSD so I was looking for some tools and found "pfsense" http://www.pfsense.org/ "pfSense is a free, open source customized distribution of FreeBSD tailored for use as a

Debugging system load - How to start?
Hi, we run an "old" mailserver system which was set up a couple of years ago. The systme dose "everything" what we need(ed). Over the last days I noticed an unnormal increase of the system load up to 10 and lots of users told me that there mailclient connections (sending and receiving) are dropped from time to time. I was planing to exchange the server respectively distribut

Setting up LDAP Authentification - Tree design/search scope
Hi, recently I started to evaluate and think about setting up a central LDAP system for authentification and "phonebook". I'm also new to LDAP. There is a lot of doc and well documented how tos, and I came across the following question: Where is the search scope for samba defiend? Or is the LDAP servers setting defining the scope? All docs "talk" about putting all

Shorewall, OpenVPN, Routing - more a routing(?) problem ...
Hi, I don''t know any other group of routing gurus like the members of this list, so may be you can give me some hints. I do have a shorewall firewall up and running, openvpn is installed on this server too and is working fine so far except one new situation: I have set up a new local vlan, which I can access from my other local vlans, but not from the opnevpn-vlan. All "old"

Setting up large (12.5 TB) filesystem howto?
Hi, I'm trying to set up an iscsi 12.5 TB storage for some data backup. Doing so, I had some difficulties to find the right tool, maybe it's also a question of the system settings... The server is a 32Bit CentOS 5.3 with the recent updates. Ths iscsi connection can be establised. fdisk and parted fail to create any information on the device or fail completely. using the lvm tools

dsync connection issue
I'm trying to move from my exising server to a new site. In preparation for this I've set up the new server as per the first attachment. I've added additional (temporary) setting to the new site as per these instructions https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Migration/Dsync but when I try to do a backup with the following command from the old to the new site sudo doveadm -D -o

Profiles and samba servers
I seem to have my new server running fine. I do have a problem with my Windows Profiles though. I logged in as a local admin to copy user_oldserver_profile to user_newserver_profile, but I cannot do that since it shows the profiles from the oldserver as unknown. I am only going to copy a few of the admins profiles and the rest I am not worrying about. I see a couple of ways of doing this. I
