OT: GNOME Panel Menu - Notification Area 2.16.1- operator error
Apparently I clicked wrong this morning and now instead of the menu (panel) with "Applications, Places, System", etc. being on the right side of my screen, it is in the middle of the screen, vertically, from the top. When I click in a vacant place in that menu, the "Properties" option is no longer there, but I was able to get into "Properties" (not sure how I was able

Web photo gallery options
Hi all, I'm looking for a web photo gallery for my personal web server at home. Till now I've done the galleries manually from Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I feel that is a dead end, kinda', besides the fact that the galleries created are rather static. I'd like an easier way to do this, eg uploading images in folders directly to the gallery and it will take care of what needs to

Backup server
Hi all, I've built a new backup server for our linux-clients. Is Amanda the way to go for a backup-solution? It seems to be pretty powerful, if a bit finickety to set up initially. The way we currently do backups is to use rsync from the clients to two folders on an older server that rolls over every other week. This worked fine for a while, but the rsync is cumulative and the users

nvidia dual monitor setup centos howto
I had some trouble setting up dual monitors on centos with an nvidia card. I managed to track stuff down, so I thought I'd make it public on the list. I have an nvidia quadro nvs 290 in a Dell, recently installed centos5. Same stuff should apply for other nvidia cards. I needed nvidia-x11-drv.x86_64. It is available from rpmforge. Installing rpmforge is described on this

Dual-boot with WinXP, CentOS already installed
Hi all, I'd like to deploy a solution with dual-booting systems where CentOS 5.3 is already installed and WinXP will be installed to a separate disk. I found http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_linux_and_windows_xp_linux_installed_first.htm?page=1 and it seems straight forward enough, although the description is for Ubuntu. The problem as I see it, is that the how-to differs from how

Dualboot CentOS and Windows
Hi, I have to install CentOS on a spare partition of a laptop with Windows pre installed. Is there anything I have to watch out for? Couldn't find anything in the wiki or does the installer handle this well without me doing some magic, or so? TIA, Frank.

NIS or not?
Hi all, We're getting to a point in our linux environment where it's starting to be cumbersome to keep shadow and passwd-files up-to-date for the users to login on each computer. Scripts can only get us so far. 8-/ I've looked a bit into central login systems for linux, and NIS and LDAP seem to be prevalent. NIS being the simpler-to-setup solution for small to medium networks as

Linux router with CentOS
Hello everybody. I'm wondering here if is it possible to setup a CentOS machine as a router for two Internet connections in a LAN. This _router_ would work as the gateway for the workstations using DHCPD. The purpose of this is to optimize the broadband "joining" both connections, and given the case, do not lose the Internet access. ?is this possible? ?too much complicated?

OT: Bittorrent clients
Hi all, Just switched my home computer from Windows 7 to CentOS 6.6 and I'm having a slight bit of trouble with the bittorrent-clients. * Transmission is fine but lacks "a bit" in features. * Vuze is my preferred bt-client but gives me horrendous gfx-artifacts, like not showing the torrent name (it's white text on a white background or some such...). * Deluge is better, and
