OT: Google Earth - How to uninstall, before installing newest version?
Desktop is CentOS 5.4 (32 bit). I have Google Earth version 4.2.205.5730 (13NOV2007 build date) installed. I have checkinstall (spelling?) installed, but am not sure if that was installed before or after Google Earth was installed. I have the Google Repository installed, but apparently Google Earth cannot be updated via yum and probably it was not installed via yum. Question: What is the best

OT: free DNS service?
I have been using a free DNS service for the past seven (7) years. This morning, at 4 A.M., , I changed the "A" record for one of my web sites, to point to an IP address on a different server, so I could test. After watching the TTL count down from 3600 to zero, with the "dig" command, it then reset to 3600, but still resolved to the original IP address. :-) I set the

OT: Dropbox - Fedora Core 9 RPM will work on CentOS 5.4?
Dropbox has an RPM for Fedora Core 9 (x86). I am running CentOS 5.4 on my Desktop, which I believe is based on Fedora Core 6. Are the libraries Fedora Core 9 uses substantially different than those CentOS 5.4 uses? If Dropbox had an SRPM available, I would Download that and Rebuild, but I'm sure it is Proprietary and they won't release an SRPM to me. TIA! Lanny

OT: How can I tell if a web site is now blocking IPs from my country?
I have always been able to browse, without any problems, http://www.mobile-review.com/index-en.shtml but for the past 2 or 3 days, Mozilla Firefox just hangs "connecting to ...." How can I tell if they have started blocking IP addresses from Colombia? I would like to do that, before I post to the IPCop mailing list. I have my IPCop box set up to do DNS Caching, so possibly something

OT: What are the 2 openssl commands I need to use?
I looked on the openssl man page but am too dense with commands to understand what I need to do..... Ran into problems generating a key and CSR for SSL, because the web site is on a server with an old Ensim Control Panel. Please someone knowledgeable, give me the openssl commands I need to use, after I ssh into the web site, to generate a 2048 bit key and csr. TIA and Happy New Year!

Partioning Error: Dual Boot, WinXP & CentOS5, 27 GB Free space; my error is?
Hello: Starting Friday afternoon, I blew away the installations on the three (3) boxes we use as Desktops. On two (2) of them (my Dell Dimension 2400 and my wife's Compaq Evo D300v), I have MS Windows XP and CentOS5 running. :-) On my daughters box (Dell Dimension 4300) I am having problems with the partitioning. Probably this is due to some mistake I have made, with regard to

Installing Google's Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5
I downloaded the .rpm file from Google and am trying to install Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5. I get the below error. Is this because I'm using SELinux or because of something else? I found a small Picasa folder in /opt (24 items, 143.7 KB) but it seems to end there. Picasa is one of the programs my wife uses on Windows. TIA! /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file disappeared
On 28 July, I changed from ProtectBase to Priorities. I kept unusually detailed notes that day. Yesterday, when I added the RPMForge respository, so I could install MPlayer, I found that the /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file no longer exists. I'm not sure how that happened. Question: Is there a way to regenerate that file? TIA -- Lanny

Skype Public Key - How to install PGP Public Key in CentOS5, from alternate site that I have in web browser?
Hello: A simple question: On this Wiki page: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype it says that the normal method for the Public Key isn't working. I copied the URL for the alternate key location http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/infosys/phone/skype/rpm-public-key.asc into the browser and I get a PGP Public Key. Question: What rpm command do I use, to Import the Public Key that's in the browser

Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible to restore WinXP?
We rarely use M$ Windows, but I let my daughter surf pbskids.org while using Windows and a Trojan Horse modified or deleted the user32.dll file. I found the instructions on the Microsoft Support web site, and it would be very easy for me to expand a new copy of user32.dll if I could get the MS WinXP CD to work. It boots OK, I press a key so it will search hardware and it then has hard drive

Video conferencing package: Ekiga or other?
My wife bought an inexpensive store brand web cam, so she can do video conferencing with people using Microsoft NetMeeting. Probably it is not supported in Linux and we will need to buy a supported web cam. I installed the Ekiga package. Is there something easier to configure and use or is Ekiga the best way to go?
