flac/sox/etc with mp3 support?
I need to convert a bunch of .flac files to .mp3 files, but the sox and
flac command tools thats in the base repo won't do that. EPEL doesn't
seem to have much either. I went looking at ATRPMS but am getting
database errors from their home page :( I know rpmforge used to have
this stuff, but its virtually unmaintained today so I've written it off.

Yum packages error.
Dear group,
Last night I was playing around with my home desktop trying to get the sound to work and somehow I broke some dependencies, now yum update would not run. Can someone help me troubleshoot this. This is the output I am getting from yum update. Thank you in advance.

Why are all repos < 5.6 listed?
Greetings all.
I just enabled all repos on my system, to enable me to find
a particular package. This is the first time I have noticed
all the Centos repos < 5.6 being listed.
Is this a new feature, to include all repos pre 5.6 now?
Here's the output of the aforementioned yum command - sorry
it's a little bit long:

Doesn't seem likely. I had a crack at rebuilding the latest FC4 package
from source and the build-dep requirements seem daunting...

possible corrupt rpm database
Hello,
I've got a centos5 box that at least has a dependency issue or a corrupt
rpm database. I am open to suggestions as to how to proceed. I have added
some extra repositories to my yum configuration, centosplus, rpmforge,
atrpms, and the kbs repos. I haven't been having issues with installs or
upgrades until today when i ran a yum update, and got a missing dependency

Repo order - priority plugins
Guys, what is the best way of arranging the repos with regards to their priority? Any ideas, especially for all non base ones?
/etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo - priority = 1, 2
/etc/yum.repos.d/atrpms.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/kbs-extras.repo

Can we get a newer version of madwifi on rpmforge?
RPMforge still has:
rpmForge:
madwifi-0.9.2.1-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm
ATrpms has:
madwifi-0.9.4-38_r2512.fc6.i386.rpm but requires their patched kernel.
I am at IETF this week, and was at IEEE 802 last week.
There are over 60 visible access points in most locations (actually not
that may APs, but an SSID for b/g, another for a, another for 802.1x
TKIP, another for 802.1x CCMP, argh!) and I

Recommended REPO Setup for Desktop on Cos5
CentOS is simply great. I use it as my main desktop. I use VMWare
clients for any "special needs" software. I am struggling a bit with
the plethora of repos and looking for some advice.
Would you opine with detail on the best repo setup for a desktop CentOS 5?
Comments: rpmforge provides fine rpms. kbsingh, google, adobe,

Which repositores?
Hello all
I'm new to RHEL/CentOS so I'm wondering what repositories people
add/enable to get all the extras they want? Especially multimedia stuff.
I tried to enable [contrib] but that didn't seem to be available (yet).
I then added rpmforge and atrpms which seem to work. However I've read
that atrpms may wreak havoc on my installation; is it best to keep it
disabled? What about

Dug myself into a hole
I just build a CentOS 6 machine to replace my old machine which
broke to where I could not fix it. In attempting to get the applications
running which had worked on the old machine, I did updates from several
repos such as rpmforge, atrpms, livna, epel, etc.
Some of the attempts ended going down blind alleys.
Now I have a mix of rpm's from various sites that I do not need, but they

are RPMForge and EPEL compatible?
Following Fabian's blog post re: RPMForge being rebuilt for EL5, I've a
question:
Are there any compatibility problems between RPMForge and EPEL? In other
words, if I enabled EPEL previously, will I be able to enable RPMForge
as well without running into trouble?

SoX support
For those of you who want to be able to decode Ogg Vorbis files into other
formats, SoX (the swiss army knife of audio programs) now has Ogg Vorbis
support in CVS. It can read Ogg Vorbis files and export the audio in any
format SoX supports. You can also write Ogg Vorbis with it, but, because of
limitations in the design of SoX, only output at 128kbps is supported.

atrpms nvidia cannot load
Hi guys - brand new 5.1 install here and quite happy - but...
The nv driver did not work at all for me, fritzy stripes and dots. This is a
GeForce 7300 LE which was working happily dual-head under FC6 with the livna
nvidia RPMs
So I looked around and it seemed like the ATRpms repo via yum was the best
option for CentOS. This is what I installed, it worked great with the

Upgrading sox
Hi,
I'm currently running an * version 1.2.13 and sox version 12.17.5. I want to
upgrade sox to the newest release ( 12.18.2 ); need mp3 support.
But how do I make the upgrade.
Do I need to recompile asterisk afterwards?
If I make a " sox -h" after a reboot I can see the new version is running
but is that enough?

Method to use SOX inside a Dialplan
I'm trying create a feature that allows a callers to add more speech to his recording. I think this can be done inside a dialplan, but I can't find an example of how to do this.
Basically, after he records the primary message, a menu would play asking if he wants to append to this message. If yes, then he would record a temp file with the additional message and when done, I want SOX to

sox, ipsec-tools, samba
Hi all,
Lance got married and is a little distracted, at the moment. :)
so I built sox, samba and ipsec-tools for centos.
They're available here:

These are all for Centos-3
They're signed with my gpg key. As soon as

alsa-oss for sip.communicator.org
I downloaded the FC rpm for sip.communicator.org:
http://www.sip-communicator.org/index.php/Main/Download
yum localinstall of this rpm came up needing alsa-oss as a dependency.
I have really tried to find this, looking at over rpmforge, kbsingh, and
atrpms.
So can anyone point me to this dependency?
