dealing with spoofing
Here's a thought I just thunk, folks: some scum, apparently in eastern Europe, has harvested my email, and is using it in the Reply-To: in its spamming efforts. Now, I realize that some mails go out from noreply, but other than that, is there a good reason why a mailserver would not be configured to send delivery failure to *both* Reply-To and From? mark

iPod Touch/iPhone VPNs with CentOS.
I am looking at options for VPN connections from iPhones and iPod Touches to CentOS systems. We use OpenVPN for connections with Windows, Mac OS X, and other Linux systems, but there don't appear to be any OpenVPN clients for iPhones (presumably because there are no tun/tap interfaces available yet). My experiences getting IPsec running on CentOS systems with OpenVPN have not been pretty.

Ignore files gone missing.
Is there a way to have rsync not treat files that have gone missing (e.g. Maildir messages that have been removed) as errors while indicating I/O errors and such? centos 5.8 libvirt disk options
I am attempting to use libvirtd/kvm on CentOS 5.latest to migrate a SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a VM from the old VMware server. I have converted the multiple vmdk disk files to a single file, then used qemu-img convert to create files for libvirtd, both qcow2 and raw formats. After many attempts to get this working I'm up against what appears to be a brick wall. + The VMware VMs are using

Rsync/SSH automation problem?
Hi All, I have a win2k3 server that its backing up to a CentOS 5.3 server. On the Win2k3 machine I plan to have rsync back up nightly to the CentOS server through ssh. The command I am using is as follows: rsync -vrPtz -e ssh myuser at myserver:/remote/backup/folder/ /local/backup/folder/ This all works great for the inital test except its prompts me for a password for "myuser" (as

(OT) OpenOffice.org calc chart strangeness.
I am attempting to create a simple line chart graphing three columns from a soffice-calc spreadsheet. I expect it to take the leftmost column as the X-Axis, plotting the others on the Y-Axis, but it always creates an X-Axis of the row number in the columns, and the first column amongst the data. I have tried this on OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, NeoOffice(R) 3.0.2 Patch 2, iWork Pages, and Excel 12.2.4

IMAP servers and Sent/Junk folders
Hi, my users were recently moved from a uw-imap on HPUX to dovecot on EL5. Their sent items and folders went from a ~/Sent mbox file (when using SquirrelMail and Apple Mail both) to ~/mail/Sent for SquirrelMail and ~/mail/Sent Messages for other imap clients. I notice I can cat the files together and the only artifact is I end up with multiple "This message is part of the system do not

Inotify or equivalent
I installed inotify and incrond to watch a directory and set the job as '/mnt/dir IN_ATTRIB chmod 0660 $@/$#' which worked very well except that as expected, IN_ATTRIB is to broad of a watch class as it caused an enormous amount of contention with the filemonitor and/or db server and the client side app was less than happy. Not to mention top showed it working away like mad... Is there

Hylafax does not pick up.
We run the distro HylaFax on a CentOS-5.4 host. On infrequent occasions we notice that the server will not pick up an incoming call. It reports listening to modem rings. Now, it seems to me that picking up the call should be under the control of the modem but I notice that there exists a setting in Hylafax for the number of rings before picking up. The default value for this is 0 (zero) but we

X11 problem with remote login via SSH
HI all! Strange problem that began occurring in last few weeks. Centos 5.4, up to date. I sometimes log in remotely via ssh using "ssh -X" and read mail via mutt. Now and then I want to use balsa instead. This has always worked (for years) though it's kinda slow... but in the last few weeks it has begun failing and spewing errors like this, repeatedly, apparently forever until I

Keeping erroring out every night
Hello list, I have a cron that runs a sync processes every night. Lately, it began erroring out with this error: rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (217717 bytes received so far) > [sender] > rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at io.c(601) [sender=3.0.7] > In trying to further investigate this, I edited the script and added verbosity and the last few lines of the log file
