Bitrot and panics
IIRC, uncorrectable bitrot even in a nonessential file detected by ZFS used to cause a kernel panic.
Bug ID 4924238 was closed with the claim that bitrot-induced panics is not a bug, but the description did mention an open bug ID 4879357, which suggests that it''s considered a bug after all.
Can somebody clarify the intended behavior? For example, if I''m running Solaris in a VM,

Samba not recognizing secondary groups
Hi all. I'm having a strange issue with a server running Samba 3.0.2a.
The server has a single share, and under that are subfolders that
contain documents. Each subfolder is owned by a different
folder-specific group, and users belong to the groups that own the
folders to which they need access.
But suddenly one user can't access any folders. Windows (the client)
suggests that she

PCAD2001 under wine
Dear sirs !
I have the only troube with PCAD under wine - PCB router shows all
traces 2 times thicker than real. (any version of wine in any

It is possible to download 30 day trial for experiments.
There are some number of noncritical bugs, but trace width is most

verify clean umount
This is on a C6 systems.
How can I verify that an ext4 data partition is being unmounted properly at
(reboot/shutdown) on a sysV init system. I've looked at S01reboot and
S01halt scripts in etc but what I'm concerned about is that I mounted my
partition on a tmpfs dir mount point. So if those S01 scripts try to umount
the tmpfs dir first they may get a "target busy" and then

X-Windows Login
I have a server with all the x-windows stuff installed. But it's
giving me a text based login prompt on the console.
I can log onto the console, and run
gnome-session
and GNOME comes up fine. How do I turn it on so that I get a X-Window
GUI login prompt?

On the check config line, what are the numbers/attributes that follow? If

[PATCH] appliance: Make sure /tmp and /var/tmp are real directories.
Currently if /tmp (on the host) is a symlink, then the symlink is
copied into the appliance, probably pointing to a non-existent
directory, and everything goes downhill from there.
Avoid this by making sure that /tmp and /var/tmp are real directories.

Do you mean the runlevel? If so, are you sure that you changed it correctly?
Centos 7 doesn't use runlevels set in inittab like previous versions did. I see that fact is actually noted in /etc/inittab, along with the expected way to do it.

xen 3.3.0 etch sources console hangs
I installed xen 3.3.0 on a etch box from sources. I just modified the
standard kernel cause of some hardware drivers. I installed xen-tools
from backports (3.9-3~bpo40+1). To create a domU ist not the problem. I
can connect via ssh and everything works fine. But when i start a domU
with "xm create host.example.tld.cfg -c" to login to console from domU
it hangs after the message

Assistance with startup script
Could someone give me some assistance in getting this startup script to
conform to chkconfig and such where the service will start up after
networking comes up, and then shut down when networking goes away?
Where all do entries need to be made, and what would they consist of?
Many thanks.....

Opensuse 10.3 does not charge dom0
I decided to upgrade from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3. I installed xen things, but when I boot using xen option the system is blocked. It appears the green window, with little suse logo in the middle, and mouse cursor, but the system crashes.
My computer is a Pentium 4 1,5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM.
I attached "diff boot.msg boot.omsg" (as diff opensuse-normal-kernel opensuse-xen-kernel)

running init disconnects ssh session
Noticing a new behavior lately.? Logged in via sshd and ssh keys as root
to a remote system.? When changing runlevels between multi-user or
graphical the ssh session is disconnected.? It's not a big deal but
annoying if I have other tasks to do on that particular system.? I've
tried logging in as normal user, su to root and it still disconnects the

HAL Problems
Hi,
since the last few days my system crashs at startup of gdm (on system boot).
If I choose runlevel 2, the system doesn't crash. I found out, that HAL is
the problem. After disabling hal (chkconfig haldaemon --off) no crashes
appear.
The system freezes completly so I can't look into the logfiles.
I removed an reinstalled hal already, but nothing changed.
I tried older kernels

I am managing several virtual machines (a predefined set) with virsh, and I
would like to make sure that all VMs are booted when the host reboots.
What is the recommended approach for this?

reg dom0 console
Hello All,
After a few months of hiatus, we have resumed working on mips port of Xen.
We are at the point of booting dom0 userland (init process and its
children).
The init process gets spawned and in turn forks off processes to run
commands in /etc/rc.d/init.d/rcS. However, the getty process does not seem
to run subsequently and hence the login prompt is not displayed. Dom 0 does
not use the
