Centralised logging with Gui and alerts?
Hi all,
If logging all logs via syslog to a central syslog server that are all
Centos based, what GUIs are out there to browse them etc. ? I know
about splunk but don't want to go down that route.
Also, some servers are hosted and would be best not sending their logs
across the net to a central syslog (although we could openvpn them
in), so can the same system be setup to receive logwatch

Gmail problem
Hi,all :
There is gmail drive for windows
platform<http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/#>where the person can
access his gmail storage space as a drive.
Do we have something similar on Linux?
Means is there any software that will allow the person to 'mount' the gmail
storage and say 'copy/paste' from his system to the gmail account?
Thanks ~

Questions about software RAID, LVM.
I am planning to increase the disk space on my desktop system. It is
running CentOS 5.9 w/XEN. I have two 160Gig 2.5" laptop (2.5") SATA drives
in two slots of a 4-slot hot swap bay configured like this:
Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Hard disk recomendation for a software raid 5 array. Does Linux Software Raid support/interacts well with TLER enabled disks.
Hi people,
I am building a cheap remote rsync backup server using a software raid
5 array of 4 500GB disks. What I have available on the market is:
1. HITACHI GST Deskstar T7K500 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache Serial ATA II-300
2. SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.10 with NCQ 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache Serial ATA II-300

External Backup Systems?
Hey everyone,
My home server just had a disk failure a few weeks ago and like a lot of
people I haven't ever really made backups on a regular basis. So I was
looking into backup solutions which will save me from this situation
again.
Now I have Bacula setup, and backing up my files onto my home server.
Although this works great, I have one issue: The disk in my server was
the one that

Mirroring Hard Drive
I have a 500GB Sata drive about 15% used I would like to make an exact
copy of too another Sata 500GB drive as a spare. That way if
something happens to the one in service I can plug in the spare
quickly and restore one of the weekly backups without reinstalling the
entire OS and all the little tweaks of setup on this mail/web server.
How do I do this? That is make an exact bootable copy of a

RAID support in kernel?
Hello.
I'm setting up a computer that will run 'CentOS 6 server'. The MB is an
Asus with a hw raid controller (Promise PDC-20276), which I want to use
in RAID-1 mode. I noted (from a MB website) that it also needs a driver
- which is probably why it's called a 'fakeraid'.
So, I've been trying to determine if any recent kernels support this
chip. Using

How to remove Microsoft soft raid?
Have a quad core workstation that was running WinXP_64 that I want to
blow away and install CentOS 6. C6 install process finds raid metadata
associated with sda and sdb, and then excludes them from the rest of the
installation process.
There doesn't appear to be an option for disassembling the raid as part
of the install process. I think there should be.
Any tricks to removing/by-passing

Software RAID Level 1, smartd and changing dev numbers
We have about 50 CentOS servers with software RAID level 1 (mirroring).
Each week, we swap out one of the drives (the one in the second of four
hot-swap bays, only the first two of which contain drives) on each server
and take them offsite for safekeeping.
The problem is, the kernel seemingly randomly switches between /dev/sdb
and /dev/sdc for these devices. This makes the process slower by

Suggest Hardware Raid Controller Card
Hi,
I have HP DL 180 G6 2U Server loaded with CentOS 5.6. Can someone
please suggest any good Hardware Raid Controller Card for the
mentioned Hardware and OS. The reason being this server comes with
Onboard Sata Controller chipset (HP Smart Array B110i Controller).
This server has SATA Harddrive - 4 Nos of 500GB each and the OS
doesnot detect it.

raid 5 install
Hello list.
The next days we are going to install Centos 7 on a new server, with
4*3Tb sata hdd as raid-5. We will use the graphical interface to install
and set up raid.
Do I have to consider anything before installation, because the disks
are very large?
Does the graphical use the parted to set/format the raid?
I hope the above make sense.
Thank you in advance.

RAIDs and JBOD?
Hey Guys,
I have some questions?regarding?a new home server I am going to build
in the hopefully very near future (ASAP, I just need to finish
planning everything and this is the penultimate?hurdle), I will be
creating a software RAID...
Lets say I have three drives "knocking" around which are all 1TB SATA
II drives but each made by a different manufacturer. I am going to
guess that

info about hdds in raid
How can I tell wich HDD to swap, when the "cat /proc/mdstat" says one HDD of the RAID1 array has died?
Does the HDD's has some serial numbers, that I can see in "reality", and I can get that number from e.g.: a commands output?
How could I know wich HDD to swap in e.g.: a RAID1 array?
thank you

CentOS6: HELP! EFI boot fails after replacing disks...
OK, I wanted to replace the 500G disks in a Dell T20 server with new 2TB
disks. The machine has 4 SATA ports, one used for the optical disk and three
for the hard drives. It is set up with /dev/sda and /dev/sdb with each three
partitions:
1 -- VFAT (for EFI)
2 -- ext4 (for /boot)
3 -- LVM
/dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 are a mirror raid (/dev/md0)
/dev/sda3 and /dev/sdb3 are a mirror raid

Hardware RAID 10 server - reformat NTFS partition to ext3 and resize for Centos 5.5
Here's the situation. I have a dual boot machine - originally had Red
Hat and Windows 2000 Pro. The NTFS partition never did seem to 'get
along' with the Adaptec 2400A caching RAID controller. Linux always
seemed to like the I2O drivers. I went from RH Enterprise to now running
Centos 5.5. Works great! I really don't want the 200 gigs worth of NTFS.
Can't I just run

Software RAID vs 'fake/ on-board RAID'
Setting:
We are setting up a low usage server for an alfresco km/collaboration system
It is a low-end server with a pair of 1.5 TB disks we will be mirroring
The server comes with Intel's on-board 'fake raid/ low-end RAID' capability
and for price reasons we have not selected a mainstream RAID card
Prior thoughts:
Searches on the net indicate no performance advantage, and possible

SATA hotswap
Hi all,
I changed a bad disk (automaticly disabled from software raid1 and system
for I/O error) in one of our servers and now have problem with adding new
one to system without reboot. Does anybody have an experience with this? Or
is it possible? :) We're using hotswap AXX6DRV3G for 6 SATA disks from Intel
connected directly to MB (S5520HC from Intel too). There is AHCI as driver
