using Skype on C-7
Hi I've whined about this before, but now I feel the overwhelming urge to whine some more. Forgiveness begged... :) I've spent some very frustrating times trying to get a microphone to work when doing skype calls. According to the various sound tools available on Centos all the various mics I have (built into webcam, analog headset, USB headset)produce sound just fine. but when using

automatic gain control
>Fromwhat you describe, your comp/limiter can't possibly be working correctly. It should be the last unit in line before the sound card, and needs to be adjusted properly. You also need to balance the levels on your mixing board (so that the correc t level comes at predictable place on the slider). It might be worthwhile to find someone with some sound-mixing or radio engineering experience

No sound (ices-2.0.0, RH9)
Hello, I've successfully installed Icecast 2.0.0 and Ices 2.0.0 on a Compaq EvoN600C running Redhat 9. Everything runs quite well (no error loggued by Icecast or Ices), the Ices stream is seen as a source by Icecast and friends are able to listen to my radio (I see them as listeners in Icecast admin)... the problem is that they ear only silence ! Looks like the streaming is OK but Ices could

latest skype (version 8.16.0.4) on Centos 7
Hi all! I've finally been reduced to having to install Skype on my Linux box. I resisted for years, but now ended up trying it. and while the latest RPM installs just fine, it refuses to acknowledge that I have a microphone! In fact I have two: 1 in the USB web cam (it finds the cam), the second in a Plantronics USB headset, which works fine but not with skype. it is as if it doesn't

Installing Skype in CentOS (4.4)
I'm trying to install Skype on a CentOS 4.4 system and I've followed the instructions on the Skype website at http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/repositories.html but when I run yum install skype it fails with a whole string of error messages, ending with Error: failure: RPMS/libsigc++20-2.0.17-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm from rpmforge: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try. Has anybody

Skype and problem with ALSA mixer driver?
Having used skype successfully in the past with previous CentOS versions, I haven't yet been able to get it working fully with CentOS 5.3 - the playback sound works OK but I can't get the mic working. I previously used the skype version installed with yum from the skype repo but thought maybe this was faulty, so have just installed the static version (cd skype_static-2.1.0.81). However,

No Mic(Headphones are fine)
Hi All, I went and bought a new headset, as I thought the old one,(almost 5yrs old), was no good. But, when trying to skype, I still can't be heard. I know the sound card worked before, although, it has been some time, since I mic'd anything. Anyone got any ideas, other than a possible dud sound card(socket)? Cheers. Mark Sargent.

Skype and Sound
I have installed Skype 4.0.0.8 on my new workstation running CentOS-6.3 (kvm) and the Gnome DTM. This host has an Intel DG43GT motherboard with on-board audio. The sound works when tested in the sound preferences in the desk top. Skype runs and the integrated usb video and microphone both work (I infer this from the mic test in Skype options showing movement on the intensity bar as I can hear

No sound (ices-2.0.0, RH9)

Yes, I did : in fact, aumix from the command line behaves exactly like the KMix GUI : when I change the PCM or Mic level with aumix, KMix shows the new settings. But even with aumix set to the good values (PCM to 100%), ices get no sound.

newbie questions
I have an Asterisknow.org CD. When I boot up, it seems ready for me to choose update, console, etc. I'm assuming I need to do something at the CLI prompt. Is there a tutorial that would take me from loading CD to making first test call? Computer is Dell Optiplex GX260 50GB free disk space 1.5GB RAM P4 processor external mic speakers Skype is on board, and would be good to use it, if

where does linein writes to
I have tried broadcasting from both SuSE Linux and Slackware and with various programs being the last one Tim`s Mixice (which is a perl script that works along with a program called catdsp). Looking at the source I saw that this programs, both of them, try to open /dev/dsp. Now, my question is if /dev/dsp is the standard device for the line-in of the audio card? I have tried, as suggested in

Ices2 / Icecast2 / Long connect and no sound
Unfortunately, ices2 isn't writing anything to the logs. I've got them on debug mode, but there still isn't anything being written to indicate it's having a known problem. As far as the interference goes, I've found that reducing the iGain and amping the input source seems to reduce the interfencence a good deal, at least, good enough such that it's only a low murmur in

I/) Settings for Skype
I've managed to get Skype set up and working. I can hear the other person talking, but she can't hear me. During a conversation, I tried what I thought to be all possible settings in both the "Volume Control" application and in Skype itself. But no joy. To make matters more puzzling, I had skype working on this same machine last year using CentOS 5.6... or maybe it was

Microphone problems with Skype
Hi, I have CentOS4 and this soundcard: 00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60) I installed the Skype rpm for Fedora3 and it works but the quality of my voice is very poor: volume is low and the voice sound doesn't have the high frequencies. Did any of you made Skype work perfectly under CentOS4? How? Thanks, Adrian

New User Installation: Questions about live streaming
My short term goal, is to stream mp3 and add input from the mic (my voice) into the stream. Long term goal, internet radio with music, talk, and request on demand. I downloaded, compiled, and configured ices-0.4.tar using ices.conf.dist (mp3 files are streaming and clients [winamp, win media] connect OK). In the /download/ices-0.4/conf directory there are four files: ices.conf.dist,
