Possible to run iscsi-target and initiator on same server?
I am trying to install Oracle RAC in a two node cluster for testing purposes, so performance is not something that concerns me. I just want to go through the process all the way to creating a database. I have all the prerequisites except the shared storage and thought I'd give this a try. I'm running: - CentOS 5.3 kernel 2.6.18-164.el5 - iscsitarget-1.4.18-1 -

Issues with iSCSI, Hosts Crashing
Two questions (and then a bonus one), kind of interrelated, but, first, some basic info. I'm using OCFS2 on OpenSUSE 10.2, kernel 2.6.18.8(-0.7). There are three nodes in the OCFS2 cluster, backed by Openfiler iSCSI storage. First, I'm using Openfiler and iSCSI volumes to back my OCFS2 file system. The nodes that are part of the OCFS2 cluster use the file system as a shared storage

storage servers crashing, hair being pulled out!
I have a trio of servers that like to reboot during high disk / network IO operations. They don't appear to panic, as I have kernel.panic = 0 in sysctl.conf. The syslog just shows normal messages, like samba complaining about browse master and then just syslogd starting up. The machines seem to crash when I'm not near the console, usually when I'm trying to pull data off them to

Xen domU''s and iscsi initaitor problems.
Hello, I have been using Xen now for several months and have been quite successful until attempting to utilize iscsi within my domU''s. My research has turned up many posts of people using iscsi with no problems, and I have found no others with the problem I seem to be experiencing. If this has been covered on this list in the past, please accept my humble apologies. Configuration:

BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#?
Hello All. I've just started looking into Xen and have a test environment in place. I'm seeing an annoying problem that I thought worthy of a post. Config: I have 2 x HP DL585 servers each with 4 Dual core Opterons (non-vmx) and 16GB RAM configured as Xen servers. These run CentOS 5.1 with the latest updates applied. These system both attach to an iSCSI target which is an HP DL385

again, nic driver order
I have two servers with identical hardware ... TYAN i3210w system boards with dual intel gigabit interfaces, and a PCI intel gigabit nic. I'm running Centos 5.4, x86_64, 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 Every other time I reboot, the nics initialize in a different order. anaconda had setup /etc/modprobe.conf with alias lines for the cards: alias eth0 e1000 alias eth1 e1000e alias eth2 e1000e However,

GNOME + Firefox - Mouse froze - what key combination to revive?
Earlier, I was using GNOME and Firefox and the Mouse died. I had to kill the power, to get the box going again, because it doesn't have a reset switch; which is *not* an elegant way to get going. What key combination would get me going or to a shell? CentOS 5, fully updated, 32 bit. TIA!

kernel-devel largesmp or ELlarge?
I'm having trouble updating my iscsitarget modules, and it seems to be related to a naming convention mixup? here's the output of the build command: [root at vmhost ~]# rpmbuild --rebuild --sign iscsitarget-0.4.14.96-0.amherst.src.rpm Installing iscsitarget-0.4.14.96-0.amherst.src.rpm error: Failed build dependencies: kernel-devel = 2.6.9-42.0.10.ELlarge is needed by

bacula rpm --rebuild on x86_64?
I tried to install the latest bacula last night, rebuilding from the source rpm ... this is the command line I used, following the instructions at bacula.org: # rpmbuild --rebuild --define "build_centos4 1" \ --define "build_x86_64 1" --define "build_mysql4 1" bacula-1.39.26-1.src.rpm but the rebuild fails, citing all sorts of dependencies being required. problem

bind specific ip address to iscsi target
Hi all, I have setup a centos5.2 server (full updated) to serve iscsi disks using scsi-target-utils package. This server has two network adapters, one for remote administration and another to serve iscsi disk. How can I bind iscsi target service to only one ip address?? Many thanks. -- CL Martinez carlopmart {at} gmail {d0t} com

mirroring with LVM?
I'm pulling my hair out trying to setup a mirrored logical volume. lvconvert tells me I don't have enough free space, even though I have hundreds of gigabytes free on both physical volumes. Command: lvconvert -m1 /dev/vg1/iscsi_deeds_data Insufficient suitable allocatable extents for logical volume : 10240 more required Any ideas? Thanks!, Gordon Here's the output from the

libata-core kernel errors
This is a repost of sorts, and for that I am sorry; I do not think my original posting subject was very clear, and I have more data about the problem. I'm experiencing lots of kernel errors when reading or writing to a disk that is part of an mdadm softraid-5 array. Since originally detecting this problem, I have isolated it to one disk, but I'm not sure what the cause of the error is. I

zvol (slow) vs file (fast) performance snv_130
Hello, I was doing performance testing, validating zvol performance in particularly, and found that zvol write performance to be slow ~35-44MB/s at 1MB blocksize writes. I then tested the underlying zfs file system with the same test and got 121MB/s. Is there any way to fix this? I really would like to have compatible performance between the zfs filesystem and the zfs zvols. # first test is a

Using Solaris iSCSI target in VirtualBox iSCSI Initiator
Hello, I?m using ZFS to export some iscsi targets for the virtual box iscsi initiator. It works ok if I try to install the guest OS manually. However, I?d like to be able to import my already prepared guest os vdi images into the iscsi devices but I can?t figure out how to do it. Each time I tried, I cannot boot. It only works if I save the manually installed guest os and re-instate the same

Migration Problem
Hi all! I've been experimenting with Xen on CentOS 5 and RHAS 5 for a while now with mixed success I thought I'd describe my latest challenge. I'll describe this from memory since all the equipment is at work and not contactable from here. I think I've described this config to the list before but here it is again: I have 2 x HP DL585 servers each with 4 Dual core Opterons
