yum install openldap-clients error 5.2 to 5.3
I am getting the following error when doing "yum -y install openldap-clients".
The machine is still on 5.2 and not 5.3. I dont wish to disturb the machine
that much at this time. Is there no easy way to install openldap-clients?

Yum problem on Centos 5.3 (64-bit)
Hello,
I'm having a yum problem updating a system on Centos 5.3, 64-bit ...
i.e. 'yum update' returns "No Packages Marked for Update". Problem
appears to be related to connecting to the mirrors where the
repositories are located but I could be wrong in that. What's confusing
me is that I have another system (Centos 5.5, 32-bit) that's working fine.

Php 5.2.x support ends
Thinking of just sitting on this for awhile? Thoughts?
Last release for PHP 5.2 & updates for 5.3
PHP Logo The users of PHP 5.2 should upgrade to 5.3 at their earliest
convenience, as the active support of the 5.2 series came to an end with the
release of version 5.2.14 earlier today. PHP 5.2.0 was released almost four
years ago and according to the release announcement,

Puppet and yum repositories
I''m running puppet 0.24.6 on CentOS 5.2 from a puppetmaster on a
virtual server to a variety
of client servers both virtual and metal running either CentOS 5.2 or
Fedora Core 10. I want to
extend this to servers running RHEL 5 (and 6) in the near future.
My problem is I have puppet set up with all repositories (mirrored
locally using cobbler)

I tried to install lighttpd in CentOS 5.2, but yum list lighttpd

PHP updates
For the 2 threads going on about PHP 5.2/5.3...
CentOS tracks upstream whose version is...
php-5.1.6-23.2.el5_3
If you want something newer, you have to go off the beaten path.
try this...(as root)
wget http://dev.centos.org/centos/5/CentOS-Testing.repo
mv CentOS-Testing.repo /etc/yum.repos.d
yum --enablerepo=c5-testing check-update
and this would allow to update to version 5.2.9-2.el5.centos

Choice of FTP server
I have taken over a number of RH/FC/CentOS servers recently. I am trying
to upgrade all of them to CentOS 4.3 and configure them to only use
software that can be managed via yum/apt repositories. One of the
choices made by my predecessor was the pure-ftpd server over vsftpd. I
cannot find a repo to get this rpm from and am wondering if anyone on
the list has any practical experience with both and

release/update question
hi,
since i don't use centos very heavily i'm not too familiar with the
centos/rhel release/update process (and i didn't do much research on this):
is it normal behavior that through the use of "yum update" systems are
forced to follow the point releases of a major release (5.0 -> 5.1 ->
5.2, etc)? is there a way and would it make sense to stay within one

Upgrade to 5.3?
Hey Listee's!
I'm not that up on CentOS so I'd be curious to know if it is possible
to upgrade CentOS 5.2 to 5.3 without reinstalling? Perhaps via Yum? Or
can you get update RPMs?
I hope this doesn't pose to much of a stupid question.
Thanks for your help everyone.
Regards,
James ;)

Bugs in yum update
This is a continuation of the thread:
"yum update fails: CentOS 5.2".
I installed a fresh Centos 5.2 and ran yum update.
It ran correctly, except for these issues:
1. As previously mentioned, after deciding what it
is going to do, It doesn't ask if its ok. But
if I type y<enter> it reports:
Is this ok [y/N]: Downloading Packages:

Upgrading CentOS 5.2 to use gcc 4.x
I have a CentOS 5.2 installation with gcc 3.4.6 as the default. I'd
like to upgrade the entire gcc tool chain, including libraries, to 4.x in
order to build some software that requires 4.1.0 or better. Can I do this
easily through yum? If I upgrade to 5.3 will I get gcc 4.x by default?
Thanks,

No /etc/yum/repos.d after new install of 5.2
Since I was in the unenviable position of completely reinstalling my
system today, I started out from the 5.2 Final DVD and then ran yum
update to get the 79 (?) packages (and another 14 after that). I
noticed something I found rather odd.
There is no /etc/yum/repos.d directory at all.
Is this right? Doesn't seem so. Makes it hard to set specific
options for various repositories.

DRBD question.
I'm going to have to be a little vague on this one, but hope I provide
enough to make the question clear. I'm not doing the work on this
server, a co-worker is, but I said I would ask for him.
He is trying to get DRBD installed. He's using Centos 5.1 and the yum
repos, but is getting problems with things like the kernel, drbd.so, and
the likes. All install fine, but I'm not
