What's wrong with yum-priorities?
"The upstream maintainer of yum, Seth Vidal, had the following to say
about 'yum priorities' in September 2009:
Gosh, I hope people do not set up yum priorities. There are so many things
about priorities that make me cringe all over. It could just be that it
reminds me of apt 'pinning' and that makes me want to hurl."

RECAP: 3?
Just to recap my other three questions:
1) I have a block of 25 DIDs and have 10 phones on the
network. I want when a person tries to call out for *
to pick a number for the CIDN and I want to make sure
that the number isn't duplicated while it's in use.
2) What do these two notices mean?

Possible bug in yum requirements handling with yum-priorities
Just upgraded my perl-DBD-SQLite rpmforge package to 1.25 which resulted
in all applications trying to use it to fail.
As it turns out the following happened:
Newer versions of DBD::SQLite need a DBI version of at least 1.57. The
rpmforge package *does* include this requirement. However, CentOS includes
DBI 1.52 and doesn't provide newer versions. As a good administrator I'm
using yum

rpmforge, perl-dbd-mysql, yum, priorities, centos, and you
rpmforge has just released a new perl-DBD-mysql for el4 that has an
obsoletes against perl-DBD-MySQL and the protectbase yum plugin doesn't
grok obsoletes. the priorities plugin does. so if you are having issues
with this, install the yum-plugin-priorities first, make sure that the
CentOS-Base repo is priority 1 and the rpmforge repo is priority 2 or
higher (99 is the default).

/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file disappeared
On 28 July, I changed from ProtectBase to Priorities. I kept unusually
detailed notes that day. Yesterday, when I added the RPMForge respository,
so I could install MPlayer, I found that the
/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file no longer exists. I'm not sure
how that happened. Question: Is there a way to regenerate that file? TIA

CentOS 8 and yum-plugin-priorities
Hi,
I've been regularly using the Yum Priorities plugin for the last decade or so.
Apparently it has been obsoleted with CentOS 8.
I've googled around for replacements, and there is some conflicting or
otherwise misleading information about it.
I'm aware the late Yum developer Seth Vidal had a bad opinion of priorities.
This being said, I like the idea of third party repositories

yum priorities and obsoleting...
Hey,
I ran into a yum conflict regarding an repoforge extra package obsoleting a base package.
The thing is that I set a lower priority to repoforge extra...
Any idea how come I ran into this issue...?
The question is more about the yum priorities than repoforge.

Suggested yum priorities settings for 3rd party repos
In the yum priorities page on the wiki Akemi Yagi suggests
http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities
[base], [addons], [updates], [extras] ... priority=1
[centosplus],[contrib] ... priority=2
Third Party Repos ... priority=N (where N is > 10 and
based on your preference)

Missing yum-priorities in 5.4?
I am looking for yum-priorities or any info on any changes here for
CentOS 5.4. There is also a forum post for this here:
<https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=22798&forum=37>
Is this missing on purpose? Function merged with another yum package?
Or is it just missing as an oversight?

Yum priorities plugin
Hi All,
I have put the priorities plugin online at:
http://danieldk.org/code/yum/
This plugin allows you to associate priorities to repositories. Packages
from high-priority repositories are protected from being upgraded with
packages from low-priority repositories. Instructions can be found in
the README file, read the part about "check_obsoletes" with care. Please
keep in mind that

CentOS 5.4: yum-priorities seems to be MIA
Hi all,
I just installed 5.4 on a machine here... All seems running fine,
except I decided to put on the extra repositories - and as usual I
decided to install yum-priorities (as directed here:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge ) but
it seems like this package is nowhere to be found. Does anybody know
why this would be?
Thanks.
Boris.

yum-plugin-priorities
If I add
priority=1
to [updates] in CentOS-Base.repo
when I run "sudo yum update" I get the warning
66 packages excluded due to repository priority protections
This does not seem to have any adverse effect,
but what exactly does it mean?

yum priorities and rpmforge...
Hi,
I am using the yum priorities plugin and, for some reason, it is blocking all rpmforge
updates, even for already installed rpmforge packages...
I have priority=1 for CentOS repos.
Is it the 'normal' behavior or is something wrong in my conf?
Thx,
JD

Yum + priorities plugin question
Hello all!
I've recently started using the priorities plugin as part of my best
practices. It's very effective, and prevents nasty things from
happening (like atrpms upgrading python and disabling yum.)
I'm wondering if there's a simple and elegant way to allow
package-name-based exclusions. For example: For my mysql cluster, I'd
prefer to have the latest mysql and

yum priorities question
Hello,
I have a question about working principles of yum.
Here are the details:
Installed package: GeoIP.i386 1.4.4-1.el5.centos
Repo: CentOS Extras
Priority for CentOS Extras repo: 1
"yum update" wants to replace the above package with the following:
Package: geoip.i386 1.4.5-1.el5.rf
Repo: rpmforge
Priority for rpmforge: 15
And yes, the following is already in the priorities.conf

how best to rollback from a yum update?
Suppose I want to upgrade a bunch of packages on a system, but in case the upgrade produces unexpected, undesired results, I want to be able to rollback the system to its original state. What is the best way to do that?
Often, I won't have, or be able to find, packages for the current installed versions. I.e. If I haven't upgraded postgres for 2 years, it may be that I can no longer
