How to get best performance from R on Linux?
Hi
following a discussion on difference in speed of R between R and Linux, I am
wondering: is there a howto to get the most (concerning speed) out of R? I
am not talking about vectorisation and techniques in doing the analysis, but
what should I look at when I want to get "the fastest R" on my computer -
compiling myself? specific switches? compile libraries?, ...
Thanks

PHP updates
For the 2 threads going on about PHP 5.2/5.3...
CentOS tracks upstream whose version is...
php-5.1.6-23.2.el5_3
If you want something newer, you have to go off the beaten path.
try this...(as root)
wget http://dev.centos.org/centos/5/CentOS-Testing.repo
mv CentOS-Testing.repo /etc/yum.repos.d
yum --enablerepo=c5-testing check-update
and this would allow to update to version 5.2.9-2.el5.centos

Unfortunately, with that philosophy but not much systems management
experience, you end up with custom-compiled and local installs of PHP

Best way to set up for PHP websites
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I am looking to set up a CentOS server for hosting a high traffic PHP
site (specifically Drupal 6).
I am trying to figure out what's the best way of setting up PHP. The
standard mod_php seems to not be a good solution, as it requires apache
to be in the prefork configuration, due to PHP not being thread safe.
Something like mod_fcgi seems to be

Best Java code for Centos 5.2s Firefox 3
OK. I just upgraded a test system from 5.1 to 5.2 and there went all of
my efforts to get Java working. All those alternative commands that I
lost track of what really worked....
So I need the JDK. I have that installed on my main system with some
alternatives commands that I do not remember. I do remember (and can
find) a thread here to help me on it, and I tried a number of different

Trying to switch from sendmail to postfix I did:

I did then:

advice on having php 5.2.x:
Hi all,
My goal is to have PHP 5.2.x on a centos virtual machine (LXC)
Looking at the repositories:
- 6.2 has php 5.3:
ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.centos.org/6.2/updates/i386/drpms/
- 5.7 has php 5.1
ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.centos.org/5.7/updates/i386/RPMS/
I'll have to rebuild a source RPM in order to have what I want:
- Which base should I install for a php 5.2 VM? 6.2 or 5.7?

release PHP 5.2 RPMS in any of the major repos?
