vsFTP Question
Hi; Now that it's installed, how do I start it and add a user? I can hardly believe there is *no* documentation! TIA, Victor -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/attachments/20091105/78d77424/attachment-0004.html>

vsftpd: users can delete files they don't possess
FTP users can delete files in their home directory they don't possess (including files belonging to root:root!) with vsftpd. I have reproduced that with vsftpd 1.1 on Suse and 2.0 on CentOS. I don't think this should happen at all. I can't see that the documentation at http://vsftpd.beasts.org/vsftpd_conf.html mentions this problem at all. How can I stop this? Kai

Rebuilding MySQL
Hi; Since I decided to "yum remove openssl", genius that I am (not!), I managed to screw up the OS so badly the server co. had to rebuild it for me <:-) These good people backed everything up very well, so the damage was minimal. Now I'm trying to rebuild MySQL. I did the "yum install mysql" no problem. However... [root at 13gems old]# /etc/init.d/mysqld start -bash:

EMERGENCY: Server Crash
Hi; I went to install some s/w and it looked like there was a problem with openssl. So I decided to uninstall it (yum remove) and reinstall it. When I went to reinstall, I discovered I couldn't use yum. Then I discovered: [root at 13gems qmail-1.03]# yum install openssl -bash: /usr/bin/yum: No such file or directory [root at 13gems qmail-1.03]# man yum Floating point exception [root at 13gems

Preventing a user from moving "up" directories
I am in the process of setting up a new server. In the process I cannot remember what I need to set so that an FTP user cannot move upward in the directory tree of the user's directory. The FTP server is VSFTP. The user's directory is owned by the user and the permissions are 775. Isn't there a setting in httpd.conf to prevent that? Todd -- Ariste Software 2200 D Street Ext

When I tried to download the files from the ftp server with wan IP address or the dyndns address it downloads some files and disconnects. Please find below an extract from the log file (ace ftp client). I would appreciate if someone could guide me, possibly with a solution for this problem. Many thanks

FTPS setup problem
Hi! I'm trying to figure out what's going wrong with a "simple" FTPS setup and VSFTPD. I saw references on Google and tried, and tried, and tried... without success. I'll start by explaining my situation: I have a WEB development server behind a firewall. It's currently only for the intranet. We now have an external company that will have to do a new website

The reason being is I have a 'webadmin' user that I use for uploading web content. I am thinking I could make the home directory of the webadmin /var/www in

How to limit ftp users to just view their directory
I am in the process of bring up Centos 5.5. My ftp server is vsftp. When I add a user (e.g. brian), the "brian" directory is owned by "brian" and is in the "brian" group with 700 permissions. However, using a FTP client, the user "brian" can view all of the directories. I do not see any directive in vsftpd.conf to limit this. What have I missed?

vsftpd failing since upgrade to 4.2
My vsftpd was working. I use it configured via xinetd and turn it off (disabled = yes) when I'm not using it to keep the bad guys from hammering on it. Recently I upgraded to 4.2 (via yum update). That' the only change I know of on the system. And I didn't have any problems with it. Today when I try to ftp, i enabled it in xinetd.d (with disable = no and a "service
