GIMP 2.3.15 for EL5, no newer libs required
Folks, I've build a tiny repo to provide GIMP 2.3.15 (and 2.3.14 as a possible fallback) for EL5. GIMP 2.3.15 is the last version of GIMP that builds with no errors with the GTK+ version that ships with EL. 2.3.15 is "almost GIMP 2.4", as 2.3.19 was the last development release prior to 2.4.0. To the extent of my knowledge, Akkana Peck wrote the first edition of her book on GIMP

Using Thunderbird as local mail reader
Hi! I'm trying to figure out how to use Thunderbird as a local mail reader. So far I don't see any way to configure it other than as a POP3 or IMAP mail reader, but I get my mail locally and would like to try using Tbird to read it. What am I overlooking? Thanks in advance! -- ---- Fred Smith -- fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us ------------------------ ---- Do you

Live Migration and KSM merging
Hi, Could anyone provide (or point me to) information on how KSM merging behaves when performing live migrations? Does libvirt perform any special work to trigger KSM scanning of the migrated pages? Any guidance is appreciated. James

No luck with qemu-kvm-ev, the behavior is the same. Running perf record -a -g on the baremetal shows that most of the CPU time is in _raw_spin_lock Children Self Command Shared Object Symbol - 93.62% 93.62% qemu-kvm [kernel.kallsyms] [k] _raw_spin_lock - _raw_spin_lock + 45.30%

Keyboard backlight fails with recent kernels
I do not use my laptop often, normally my better half has possession and use of it. It is a late 2011 ASUS ROG G73S which performs very well. The keyboard backlight was an issue initially under CentOS6, but the kind folks at elrepo found the missing bits in a more recent kernel and created a package to add them to the older CentOS6 kernel. An upgrade to CentOS7 went without a hitch and the

sticky bit inside user's dir
Hello there, I have the following problem. I need a user not to be able to delete (rm -rf) a dir inside his home directory (a dir which is owned by him). The sticky bit is supposed to do just that... and it does, in every part of the file system but in his home. Same goes for acls (setfacl -m u:user:rx dir), a rm -rf inside his directory will render the acls useless. Is there any workaround

KSM failure on Xen 4.0.1/FC 13
Greetings Xen Users, I am trying to bring up xen-4.0.1-0.1.rc4.fc13 on an up to date FC 13 Dell Precision 690. For dom0, I am using the 2.6.32.17 PVOPS kernel. Xen boots and the kernel boots until it reaches a point where KSM fails (as it should, since KSM is compiled out) but hangs, because it cannot find /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/sleep_millisecs and friends. I have booted the kernel on bare metal (KSM

Dag's comment at linuxtag
>From http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20090629 "....Right next to the Gentoo stand was a group of young people, proudly displaying their affiliation with CentOS. Dag Wieers, the well-known maintainer of a once very popular RPM repository, greeted me with a big smile: "Do you know CentOS?" When I introduced myself, he looked somewhat disappointed: "Oh, so you know

Enabling KSM with ksmctl under Centos 5.4
Are their any good guides out there on how to use ksmctl to enable and tune KSM performance on Centos/RedHat At the moment the only guidelines I can find are from the following OLS paper, plus the Linux Kernel Docs. * http://www.kernel.org/doc/ols/2009/ols2009-pages-19-28.pdf * http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/vm/ksm.txt On a basic dual core testbed with 4GB Ram and 4-5 VMs I've

Ksm high load
I have had ksm[2] causing a high load (on recent centos7), such things have been reported before[1]. I suspect that this could be related to windows vm's. I am having not that many vm's in the current setup, and this load increased on the hosts with a few windows vm's that are already generating more load that others. Is there a way to disable ksm for specific vm's in the

openssl and eliptic curve
Hello, I'm trying to rebuild redhat openssl rpm with eliptic curve support enabled. What I did is just edit the spec file and modify the configure parameters from no-ec to enable-ec. Not surprisingly the package does not build with this enabled: http://pastie.org/2334009 This appears to be deliberate due to shitware patents. Anyone knows how to "fix" this? Thanks

installer with centosplus kernel?
Hi all, Is there any way to get a CentOS 7 ISO with the centosplus kernel? I have some very old hardware I'd like to keep going if easy, but it has old NVidia network cards that need the forcedeth driver. Apparently this driver is now in the centosplus kernel, but if I use the default ISO I won't be able to get on the network to get the centosplus kernel. (Of course I can get the kernel

Centos and RadeonHD 4570
Hi guys, Recently I've done a bad bad thing, buying a laptop with an ATI card. The card itself is supposed to be quite decent performance wise, but the ATI drivers still suck a lot. I haven't yet tried booting Centos on this laptop, but I used a Fedora 12 LiveCD. Fedora displays things nicely, but no 3D accel (I like to play OpenArena/Tremulous every now and then).
