Replacement for Linux-HA (heartbeat) - RedHat cluster?
Hello,
I'm beginning to give up on making Linux-HA's heartbeat work for my
environment (CentOS x86_64) and am wondering what other option have I got to
help me:
1. Use IPVS to maintain a cluster of virtual servers, either master/slave or
load-balanced.
2. Use DRBD in master/slave fashion to keep a home-grown application
highly-available.
The first thing I stumbled upon is RedHat Cluster

Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks,
I've followed a set of instructions I found on
http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli
which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting.
I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then
anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I

Configuring a cluster
Dear Centos users,
I am not sure if this the correct place to post but it seems sensible.
I have an 8 node cluster which I want to install/configure Centos. As
I am not a sys-admin, can anyone advise me on what I should do?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thank you.

Administering a Linux domain member in a NT domain, as a "Domain Admin"
Hello,
After following the winbind-related steps in the SAMBA 3 howto, I was
able to achieve console logins on the Linux workstation by any domain
user; Great!
Now, I've come to the issue of expecting that a "Domain Admin" should be
able to administer the Linux workstation much like a "Domain Admin"
administers a Windows workstation on a domain. I've seen

Administering samba locally without opening root to the net?
Hello.
I'm trying to find a way to administer a (set of) standalone
samba machines (3.x style) locally.
Most things are now done using `net rpc' command. But this one
connects to a (local) samba server over network, and hence requires
auth.
Another example is pdbedit tool which accesses local passdb.tdb
file directly as long as user running this command has the
necessary permissions.

I'm asking myself, which LDAP attributes are mandatory which optional
for user and workstation accounts.
After using the smbldap-populate command there where different
attributes set than for adding users with the smbldap-useradd command.

fstab problem after a failed drive
Everyone,
I installed a sata drive on a SuperMicro with SCSI drives. No problem
with the installation. Everything went as expected as the os recognized
the drive and assigned /dev/sdc to the new 300 gig Seagate drive. I had
planned to use this drive for backup tarballs.
The drive had been functional for about a week with no problems.
Apparently it went out today when I tried to reboot the

administering permissions via Windows 2003 Server
Hi,
We have a Linux Release 9 FIle Server with which we are having major
problems controlling file permissions. Even though a directory may have 777
permisions when any attempt to change/add permissions on this directory
(via computer management by admin in Server 2003) this just results in
'access denied' message even though we have full ownership.
We also have a WIndows 2000 terminal

Problem Administering Permissions on Samba Server
I have a Samba-3 server on a Linux Fedora server configured as a member
server on a Windows NT domain.
Winbind works great. I can do a getent group or getent passwd and it will
list the users and groups of the domain.
I can also set permissions on the Samba shares on the Linux server using
chmod or chown etc. I have the Official Samba-3 HOWTO and Referencd Guide.
The HOWTO Guide says you should

Planning a 2.08 release
It seems that quite a bit of stuff built up very quickly after the 2.07
release:
Changes from 2.07 to 2.08-pre6:
* Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout
to have a different action than just pressing Enter.
* Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom
command to be executed in case the kernel image is
