Apache Security
Hello, I have a server running CentOS 4.3 with all the latest updates.
The server in question has been hacked by spammers a few times. The
details of the hack have been basically the same every time. I find
some directory created by the apache user account in /tmp. The new
directory contains an html file, and a list of email addresses to spam
and a perl script that spams all those email

CentOS on Dell Inspiron 640m laptop
I ordered and just received today a new Dell Inspiron 640m laptop (it also goes by the name E1405).
Anyone tried installing CentOS on this laptop? It's the wireless drivers I'm most concerned about; it's got the Dell 1390 internal wireless card (not the Intel wireless).
Anyone have some feedback, on the wireless or any other issues, on running CentOS on this laptop?
Thanks

We have an ocfs2 release 1.4 filesystem shared between two nodes

Need to unmount an LV from host system
Greetings -
Ok, I made a mistake that I need to fix. Fortunately it is not a
destructive mistake, but I need some advice on how to correct the problem.
CentOS 6.3 host system named Earth
I was creating some new logical volumes within my exiting volume group for
a new virtual machine using the LVM GUI. When I created the LV that I
plan to use for root partition of the new VM (Bacteria) I

how can I stress a server?
Hi all,
I have a server, with an Intel DG35EC motherboard, Q9300 CPU, 8GB
Kingston DDRII RAM which can't take a lot of load. I have 4 XEN VPS's
on there, which doesn't consume more than 4GBM RAM at this stage. Yet,
the machine sky rockets at some times. I've moved the XEN VPS's to
another server, with 4GM RAM, and it doesn't cause the same problems.
So, apart from

Resize guest filesystem question

I am going through some testing steps to expand a logical volume and the
corresponding filesystem on a KVM guest and have run across a deficiency in
my knowledge. I spent the afternoon yesterday googling for answers, but had

to use the additional disk space that I added to the logical volume that the

Not sure if this will do more harm than good.

the difference between temp and .temp
Hi everyone -
This came up within the last day -- Jim's response to Deepankar is pasted below.
There are probably lots of reasons, but what is the advantage to using
.temp over, say, temp?
I often find myself writing temporary objects -- should I use the .
preface? What would be the advantages to doing so?
Thanks in advance for what will surely be a collection of illuminating
responses.

I''m running a simple WEBrick server for a small rails website. I probably
get less than 100 hits per hour. I just looked in /tmp on the server and
there are over 10,000 ruby_sess.* temp files containing:
" hash{"
flashIC:''ActionController::Flash::FlashHash{:
@used{
They''ve piled up so much that I can''t even rm -f ruby*. Bash complains

Windows app can't clean up temp files
A couple of my users use Solidworks which creates temp files that look like

I?ve changed permissions till I?m blue in the face and can not get this
program to clean up it?s temp files. Whenever a user goes back into a
drawing they get permission denied on the temp files. This problem does not
happen when the files are hosted on a
