sfdisk: No more Cylinder / Head / Sector support in util-linux 2.26 and later
Hi,
it was brought to my attention that sfdisk has lost the ability to deal
with C/H/S addressing as of util-linux 2.26, so the -C ,-H, -S command
line parameters are no longer supported. Should there be a compile-time
check based on "sfdisk -h" output that would cause daemon/sfdisk.c to be
compiled only if something like the following is present?

partition offset/alignment on SAN devices.
Hey folks,
I've been getting requests from the users that they want the OCFS2
filesystems aligned to 64k boundaries, however, when I began the
project, the dummy of me, created the OCFS2 filesystem on top of the
whole disk device (no partition) for example, one of the SAN devices
would show up as /dev/dm-10, I created the filesystem using the
following command:
mkfs.ocfs2 -L SOMELABEL

Partition # does not end on cylinder boundary.
Running CentOS 6.3
Areca hardware raid 10
fdisk -l
reports multiple partitions with the following description.
"Partition # does not end on cylinder boundary."
Disks are 512 byte sector size.
Raid stripe size is 64K.
but if I use
fdisk -lc
(-c Switch off DOS-compatible mode. )
I don't get any warnings.
Should I reinstall? (performance hit?)

Want to draw 3D cylinder objects
Hello,
I want to draw 3D cylinder objects in R.
Given is the length and the diameter of the cylinder.
Has anybody an example?
Thank you very much!
Best regards

Ploting 3D cylinder in RGL
Dear all,
I would like to draw a 3-D horizontal cylinder preferably in RGL device
(because this gives the look from different angles). Basic idea is from
http://www.tau.ac.il/cc/pages/docs/sas8/insight/chap18/sect3.htm.
Below is the description exactly what I want to do.
Please see at figure 18.6, 1st plot. Here it is an confidence ellipsoid.
Suppose now you put another 4 same ellipsoids on top

rgl how to plot a cylinder like arrow3d?
Dear List,
I'm trying to draw vector in XYZ with rgl under use of a cylinder3d.
Therefore I scale and rotate a basis-cylinder).
However, somehow the rotation is wrong as
verified by overplotting arrow3d().
Where is my mistake?
library(heplots)
library(rgl)
# ... 2 vectors
data=data.frame(row.names=c('X','Y','Z'), x1=c(2,1,5),y=c(4,3,2))

Parabolic cylinder function
Dear all,
I need your advice since I am looking for an implementation of the parabolic
cylinder function in R. I found implemantations of the hypergemetric
functions (the Whittaker and the confluent hypogeometric functions) in the
package fAsianOptions but the parabolic cylinder function was unfortunately
not there. Do you know of such implementation?
Thank you very much for your advice.

kickstart partitioning and cylinder boundary
As I understand anaconda uses parted to partition (starting from
centos 6), using this as example (kickstart configuration file):
clearpart --all --drives=sda --initlabel
part /boot --asprimary --size=200 --fstype=ext2 --ondisk=sda
part swap --asprimary --size=16384 --fstype=swap --ondisk=sda
part / --asprimary --size=512000 --fstype=ext4 --ondisk=sda
part /scratch --asprimary --size=1 --grow

MEMDISK: Image seems to have fractional end cylinder
Hi,
I created a 4 Meg Byte primanry DOS patition onto a hard disk. This partition
was formatted with
format /s.
The hard drive was able to boot DOS.
After that I connected the drive to a Linux machine and created and image
with the command
dd if=/dev/had1 of=hard.img
When I send this image to my PXE client I see on the screen:

How to Backup and Restore MBR within Logical Volumes?
Hi All,
I have several Xen virtual machines within logical volumes using LVM2. I did
not use disk images for performance reasons.
Conventionally, if I want to clone my virtual machines, I have to dd the LV
to an image file. But this consumes a lot of time and harddisk space.
So, instead of doing that, I want to use losetup and kpartx with my logical
volumes, which contain operating systems of

Pc's not added (shown) to AD after remove and re-add.
Hai,
?
After some "strange" pc problems with pc-domain trust i did some digging.
Im pretty sure this is a samba bug, if someone can verify this.
?
My steps.
?
- Setup a win10 pc, static ip.
- Join the domain.
?
And its shown in AD and DNS.
Turn of the pc.
?
but, now next, set a new pc, use the same name but a different IP.
join the domain.
login and turn the pc offf

sfdisk -g support in DomU
Back in January there was a mail thread on this subject (
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2005-01/msg00659.html
), however I see that blkfront still does not include ioctl support for
disk geometry. So, any application that uses "sfdisk -g" to get the
geometry of a partition, or disk, will fail when run in DomU.
Is this a deliberate omission?

Questions on qcow, qcow2 versus LVM
I''ve been using lvm under centos to create the backing store for domUs and
although the performance seems acceptable it has some shortcomings. The
biggest of which is the LVM bug which prevents me from removing an lv (it
says it is still mounted and it definitely isnt). I thought this was just
a centos bug but it appears to be evident in debian and ubuntu too and I
really can''t

LVM repairing or back to regular ext3?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for correcting errors on an HD
when using LVM? I've tried e2fsck and indicates bad block. I've tried
with -b 8193, 16384, and 32768 and no good.
I've found some info about reiserfsck on google, but this utility doesn't
seem to be included in Centos4.3. I did find it on my old FC1 box.
I am thinking now I really should have went with

[PATCH] daemon: parted: use --part-type with recent sfdisk
Check whether --part-type is supported (in the rewritten sfdisk in
util-linux >= 2.26), and use it instead of --print-id & --change-id.
The actual result should be the same, just not using a (recently)
deprecated command line API.

upgrade zfs stripe
hi there,
since i am really new to zfs, i got 2 important questions for starting. i got a nas up and running zfs in stripe mode with 2x 1,5tb hdd. my question for future proof would be, if i could add just another drive to the pool and zfs can integrate it flawlessly? and second if this hdd could also be another size than 1,5tb? so could i put in 2tb also and integrate it?
thanks in advance

Is transport=rdma tested with "stripe"?
Hi,
I have 2 servers with Mellanox InfiniBand FDR hardware/software installed. A volume with "replica 2 transport rdma" works (create on servers, mount and test on clients) ok. A volume with "stripe 2 transport tcp" works ok, too. A volume with "stripe 2 transport rdma" created ok, and mounted ok on a client, but writing a file caused "endpoint not

Advise on recovering 2TB RAID1
Hi all,
I have one drive fails on a software 2TB RAID1.
I have removed the failed partition from mdraid and now ready to
replace the failed drive.
I want to ask for opinion if there is better way to do that other than:
1. Put the new HDD.
2. Use parted to recreate the same partition scheme.
3. Use mdadm to rebuild the RAID.
Especially #2 is rather tricky. I have to create an exact partition
