[OT] Conference room software
We have a very decentralized user base with no standard operating system or utilities except for a web browser of some kind (no Exchange either). What recommendations does the list have for software to coordinate conference room reservations? It doesn't need to be responsible for any kind of invitations or email notifications, really just a pretty calendar where scheduled events can go. It

NTFS and elrepo
I have here a box which I dual-boot between CentOS 5.4 and an older version of that "other OS" that I'm using to check out the ELrepo version of kmod-ntfs. After installing as per the directions on the ELrepo site, I can mount an NTFS filesystem, and when I type "mount" with no options the output tells me that the target filesystem is mounted read-write. However, when I

Zil on multiple usb keys
This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol? I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... If I where to add a couple usb keys for zil, would it make a difference? Thanks. Sent from a

CentOS 6.5 install
Hello, I'm a newbie so here's my question. I'm trying to install CentOS 6.5 on a HP Proliant 350e server. This server has 4x 1TB hard drives. I'd like to enable the hardware RAID 5 and stripe all 4 disk into one 3TB logical volume. Then install CentOS on the 3TB volume. However after I install I can't get the server to boot. I know about the MDOS vs GPT labeling issue.

Amateur Radio/FCC and the "none" encryption option
Is there an easy way to get the "none" option back into OpenSSH? In order to do TCP/IP over amateur radio in the U.S. (and most other countries) we must not use encryption to obscure the meaning of our info, but we are allowed to use authentication to set up the links. This means we need normal authentication but we need the "none" option back in OpenSSH in order to use it

How to set up a 4 way gluster file system
Hi, With replica 2 volumes one can easily end up in split-brains if there are frequent disconnects and high IOs going on. If you use replica 3 or arbiter volumes, it will guard you by using the quorum mechanism giving you both consistency and availability. But in replica 2 volumes, quorum does not make sense since it needs both the nodes up to guarantee consistency, which costs availability. If

Poor performance of btrfs. Suspected unidentified btrfs housekeeping process which writes a lot
Welcome, I''ve been using btrfs for over a 3 months to store my personal data on my NAS server. Almost all interactions with files on the server are done using unison synchronizer. After another use of bedup (https://github.com/g2p/bedup) on my btrfs volume I experienced huge perfomance loss with synchronization. It now takes over 3 hours what have taken only 15 minutes! File

RAID10
Hi All, I am looking at ZFS and I get that they call it RAIDZ which is similar to RAID 5, but what about RAID 10? Isn''t a RAID 10 setup better for data protection? So if I have 8 x 1.5tb drives, wouldn''t I: - mirror drive 1 and 5 - mirror drive 2 and 6 - mirror drive 3 and 7 - mirror drive 4 and 8 Then stripe 1,2,3,4 Then stripe 5,6,7,8 How does one do this with ZFS?

Can ZFS simply concatenate LUNs (eg no RAID0)?
Hi, I do have a disk array that is providing striped LUNs to my Solaris box. Hence I''d like to simply concat those LUNs without adding another layer of striping. Is this possibile with ZFS? As far as I understood, if I use zpool create myPool lun-1 lun-2 ... lun-n I will get a RAID0 striping where each data block is split across all "n" LUNs. If that''s

How to set up a 4 way gluster file system
Hi, I have 4 nodes, so a quorum would be 3 of 4. The Q is I suppose why does the documentation give this command as an example without qualifying it? SO I am running the wrong command? We use Communigate Pro and the server has 45 Outlook clients with the MAPI connector (All mailboxes on the server).? When a user opens Outlook, a refresh of the local cache is performed for his data.? There is a big "Public"

SATA vs. SAS
I have 8 WD SATA HDD with raid ready (3mbps) hard disks on a 8 port 3ware controller.(on raid 5.) Does anyone have a comparison on SATA raid and SAS raid disk. As you know SAS disk are very expensive and I would like to know from experts in the list who could suggest which of the following would be the best. Option 1) 2 servers each having 2.0TB raid disk with SAS drives, 2GB ram and standard

zfs block allocation strategy
Hi, quoting from zfs docs "The SPA allocates blocks in a round-robin fashion from the top-level vdevs. A storage pool with multiple top-level vdevs allows the SPA to use dynamic striping to increase disk bandwidth. Since a new block may be allocated from any of the top-level vdevs, the SPA implements dynamic striping by spreading out writes across all available top-level vdevs" Now,

GlusterFS and Lustre
I came across this www.gluster.org Has any one tried it . Is it a true parallel file system allowing concurrent read and write to a file by many processes. Will it be suitable for HPC applications. -- Regards-- Rishi Pathak -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

RAIDZ(2) expansion?
I skimmed the archives and found a thread from July earlier this year about RAIDZ expansion. Not adding more RAIDZ stripes to a pool, but adding more drives to the stripe itself. I''m wondering if an RFE has been submitted for this and if any progress has been made, or is expected? I find myself out of space on my current RAID5 setup and would love to flip over to a ZFS raidz2 solution

AR, find(:all), loops and memory usage
I''m a beginning programming using ActiveRecord outside of Rails to do conditional processing of database records. So far, I''ve been successful. However, my script loads all matching records into memory first. There are hundreds of thousands of matching records so the script quickly consumes over 500MB of RAM before any processing is done. Is there a way to avoid this preloading
