Correlate i/o with a process
Hello:
I have a server with 2 HBAs, and the users keeps complaining about
performance problems. My question is, how can I relate the process with high
I/O wait? Also, is it possible to see how much data is being pushed thru by
my 2 HBAs?
TIA!

Load at 5, no CPU I/O or swap in use
We are currently running CentOS 5 update 4 on a Dell R910 server 16
cores/32 hyperthreaded with 64GB of memory. It is our main Oracle 11g
DB server for one of our customers and is attached to an MD 3000
storage array. We are having a load averaging around 5 but see no swap
in use, CPUs are pretty much idle and no I/O wait. We have Oracle
dataguard turned on in transactional mode. I've checked

Historical Data related to CPU,IO and Memory
Hi,
Are there any utilities or tools to look at historical data of Memory, CPU
Utilization or IO activity on CentOS 6.4 or 5.9 Version? For example the
how much the memory was consumed for the period of last six months.

Finding i/o bottleneck
Hi list !
We have a very busy webserver hosted in a clustered environment where the
document root and data is on a GFS2 partition off a fiber-attached disk
array.
Now on busy moments, I can see in htop, nmon that there is a fair percentage
of cpu that is waiting for I/O. In nmon, I can spot that the most busy block
device correspond to our gfs2 partition where many times, it shows that

3.0.21c: idmap_rid segfaults on AIX 5.3 ML4
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use idmap_rid on an AIX 5.3 ML4 machine. Samba compiled
successfully using the IBM compiler (vac.C) version 6. The only
programs I supplied where db and libiconv.
I followed the instructions, and put nsswitch/WINBIND in /usr/lib/security,
and edited /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg.
When I start "winbindd -i", it coredumps with a Signal 11:

Subsetting a data.frame degenerates at one column?
Greetings.
At the moment, I'm applying R to some AIX 'nmon' output, trying to get
a handle on some disk performance metrics. In case anyone's
interested:
http://docs.osg.ufl.edu/tsm/pdf/
some of them are more edifying than others. (ahem)
I'm trying to develop a somewhat general framework for plotting these
measures, in the hopes that it's of some use to people other

kernel bug ?
Hi,
I was using kernel-2.6.18-164.15.1 with no known issues. Then, I updated to:
Linux 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Sep 29 12:50:31 EDT 2010 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm aware that there are later updates that patch couple more security bugs.
Here is an issue I run with 2.6.18-194.17.1 and am asking if anyone
hits that kernel bug.
Here are the symptoms:
1) kswapd1 running at 100%,

is there any tools/mods for apache2 which are you using to monitor the
load of every virtual host? (e.g. mod_proctitle)
thanks

Increase CPU usage on HV after upgrade (7.2 -> 7.3)
Hello ,
After upgrading the system from CentOS 7.2.1511 to CenOS 7.3.1611 I
see that the average processing time has increased from 5-7% to 12-15%
(doubled). Not critical but it is not pleasant. Server as KVM with 5
virtual machines. Someone noticed something similar? If so, how to fix
that?
Thx.

Constant disk activity
Hi there,
I have an old server (home use now), and i just did a fresh install of 5.8 on it. But the disk is constantly noisy.
When running iotop, there is nothing blaring out at me.

Server hangs on CentOS 5.5
Hi --
I'm running a server which is usually stable, but every
once in a while it hangs. The server is used as a file
store using NFS and to run VMware machines.
I don't see anything in /var/log/messages or elsewhere
to indicate any problem or offer any clue why the system
was hung.
Any suggestions where I might look for a clue?

indeed, it appears it tries to mount local file systems BEFORE drbd is
started. because /data isn't mounted, backuppc can't start either.
so do I have to edit the chkconfig priorities in /etc/init.d and
recreate the rc3.d S** and K** scripts so drbd starts earlier? ugh.

afaik, this has nothing to do with the drbd slave. I reboot the
master, replication resumes just fine, but the /data filesystem doesn't
get automounted til I manually mount it.

High load
Hi
Is there a way to nail down the issue of high load on a server basically
trying to understand the reason behind high load at a specific time period.
I use top command but it does not have history.
Nagios reports saying "*[04-25-2012 10:11:00] SERVICE ALERT:
dev;LOAD;WARNING;HARD;3;WARNING - load average: 6.88, 6.36, 5.71"*

Please help me understand.
