Wine on Centos 5.2 - "X Development Files"
Hi there,
I am currently compiling wine (latest) on centos 5.2. My compiler had
error'd out with "X development files not found". Now I had done a yum
groupinstall "X Windows System" without any luck. I just don't want to
have to install anything on top of what I need to.
So what packages compose the "X development files"?

TightVNC controlling a Mac OSX 10.4.9.
Need some pointers here. I've got CentOS 4.4, and I want to control my
OSX 10.4.9 box via VNC. It connects, and I get a little dot for the
mouse cursor, but just a black screen. I can see the mouse controlling
the OSX desktop...
Here's the output when I start in a terminal:
[d at f ~]$ vncviewer
VNC server supports protocol version 3.889 (viewer 3.3)

To my understanding, when you install centos-7 with options ServerGUI or

CRAN checks give errors when no tests are included
Dear all,
as a follow-up to the question asked on R-package-devel (see link below):
Someone sent a package to CRAN with a few problems. There's more things
wrong with the submission, but one thing that really caught my eye was the
following error:
Warning message:

During my studies, I found a fault in the hist()-function:

there will be a shift of -max(x)/10,000,000 in the hist-datas.
See my example:

Emacs, Gnus, HTML emails and nbsp's...
Is there an emacs guru amongst the CentOS bretheren who can help me with
the following:
Since upgrading from CentOS 5.10, Emacs 21.4.1 and Gnus v5.9.0 to
CentOS 6.5, Emacs 23.1.1 and Gnus v5.13 HTML emails are now being
renderd in a pretty reasonable way (thanks!), *but*
non-breaking-spaces (nbsp's - UTF8 0xC2, 0xA0) and a few other
"unusual" characters are always

Emacs and Ispell, Aspell and Hunspell
CentOS members,
This is another CentOS, Emacs upgrade question:
Since upgrading from CentOS 5.10 and Emacs 21.4.1 to CentOS 6.5 and
Emacs 23.1.1 I am trying to get a spell checker working in emacs.
Previously I used aspell and everything "just worked". Now I gather
that hunspell is the norm but after installing it, when I try it it
"just doesn't work".

emacs: reformat \items paragraph in .Rd
(emacs newb here)
After having made some changes in an \items paragraph of \arguments
the lines are no longer nicely wrapped. I was looking for a command to
reindent/rewrap/reformat the whole \items paragraph but couldn't find
anything.
The only way, I found, was to go to the end of the first line, do
'c-j' (or RET) which wraps *this* line nicely, but now there is a

problem with german fonts (gnu-emacs 21.2.1, ess-5.1.21, w95)
I have a little problem, I cannot solve (at least reasonable fast)
I use gnu-emacs 21.2.1 with r-1.5.1 on windows 95. In recent versions
I changed "process-coding-system-alist" (C-x[REt]p) to "latin-1". Then I was
able to plot german "????" etc(rgui does make this correct).
With the new R version this does not work any
more. I tried to use some other codings systems

grub problems
This is irritating: I've got a server I just upgraded to 5.4, then
rebooted, only to discover that it just *sits* there at the grub boot
menu. I looked at grub.conf, and uncommented hiddenmenu (which should have
been done long ago).
It *still* sits there when I reboot. Any clues, folks?

Patch for "last" providing incorrect information on Solaris 8
I have put together a simple set of diffs that corrects the problem
described by Steven Fishback <sfishback at interpath.net> on 10-30 on this
list regarding incorrect information reported by last on Solaris. The
patches merely pass along the username in the utmpx record for a logout.
Is there any reason why this would be a problem with other OSes? If not,
maybe this could be rolled into the

5.4 kernel versions?
Please excuse a possibly dumb question.
Prior to the release of CentOS 5.4 I believe two updated 5.4 kernels
were released as part of 5.3
2.6.18-164.el5 and 2.6.18-164.2.1.el5
Now that 5.4 is released we have just the 2.6.18-164.el5 kernel.
Now the dumb question - what happened to the updated kernel?
I now have workstations running 5.4 with the 164.2.1.el5 as they get yum
update run regularly,

No joy installing R with shared libs.
Hello,
My platform is SuSE 8.1. After downloading and unpacking R version 1.7 I
tried building with shared libs enabled. (./configure --enabl-R-shlib). My
goal is to use RSPython but I am now in my own private segmentation fault
hell.
The R build worked fine: make, make check, make install cool.
The RSPython build worked fine.
Thinking I'm good to go, I run python. But when I import RS

i386 floating point tweaking
Just been trying to get the polygon triangulation code from this
package: http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~quake/triangle.html to dyn.load into
R. Uh oh. Floating point exceptions.
Track it down to some FPU diddling that the author deems is necessary.
Here's my minimal code that breaks:
flipme.c:
#include <fpu_control.h>
void flipme(){
int cword;
cword=4210;

R 4.0.0 build error with sysdata.rda on ppc64el architecture
The R 4.0.0 package migration on Debian is being held back by a failed build
on ppc64el [1]. We can see from the history of builds logs [2] that it used
to build, briefly failed, worked again and then failed leading to R 4.0.0's
release. (And my bad for missing how the alpha1/alpha2/beta/rc builds failed.)
I have however neither changed anything, nor did I ever have to accomodate
