Strange problem with icons!
Check out these MSKB articles. They describe how shortcuts are resolved. In particular, the last one describes the process required to "fix" this behaviour. I had a LOT of trouble when I first set up my LAN because people had a nasty habit of sharing drive C (even I used to do this until I discovered that this is a Bad Idea). The main problem is that the shortcut includes the UNC

Wine icons for Windows applications
Hi, The latest version of Wine on a Ubuntu/Gnome system automatically creates the correct icons when shortcuts are placed in the desktop or "virtual start menu". However, it seems that the largest icon created is 48x48. Can this size be increased as these icons look fuzzy when using applications like Docky with zoom enabled? (or does this need to be changed somewhere else rather than

problems with categorical variables
Hi All: I am working on a dataset of a study on healthcare workers. One of the variables I am studying is a categorical variable (variable name:EDUC, indicates educational achievement, with 6 levels: "illiterate", "primary", "junior high school", "high school completed", "undergraduate", and "postgraduate"). I want to collapse the

CentOS 5.2 - Nautilus - file types are not associated with an action and icons are not displayed
Hi all, I use CentOS 5.2 as a desktop and the Gnome Nautilus doesn't display icons related to the file types and all associated actions ("open with") are lost. It is so bad, that the desktop shortcuts are displayed as ordinary files "Filesystem.desktop" or "openoffice.org-1.9-calc.desktop", and when I click on them, the Nautilus wants to know what it should

run R script automatically by double-clicking WinXP desktop icon
I've written a simple script that does some surveillance analysis on daily counts of walk-in clinic visits, for our county health department. (Actually, Michael Hohle's surveillance package does all the work; I just customized it a little to work with the way our data are recorded.) The output consists of a graph and a little table. My colleague will run it once in a while, on

Slow update time for Desktop icons
I've got one user that I just put onto the new Samba 3.0.8 server. He's on WinXP SP1. He has a ton of icons and things on his desktop (39M worth of data according to his profile) but I'm not sure if that is a problem. When he logs in, a few of his icons which point to network applications have only the default Windows shortcut image. If he right-clicks the Desktop and clicks

Stream File Type?
I'm a newbie. I've just installed Icecast2 and am streaming to it successfully via Nicecast (great app BTW). My problem is that the stream from Icecast2 comes through as an .m3u which does not correctly open on any of the Mac or Windows machines that I've tried. When broadcasting directly from Nicecast the file type is a .pls which both iTunes and WMP seem to deal with just fine

heritability estimation
Hello, I'm looking for a method to estimate narrow sense heritability of traits in a RIL population. Papers I've checked either use either SAS or SPSS or do not give any details at all. I've found some reference to using variance components in ANOVA, using the kinship or wgaim packages, but I don't have a clue as to how to do any of this. Is there any way fro a very R illiterate

Running Perfect World through Wine using Winebottler
I am trying to install the game "Perfect World" (http://pwi.perfectworld.com/download) On my Mac using Wine. After going through the obnoxious process of installing wine (for me this took forever because I am hugely computer illiterate, but through this process I learned to find info in forums AND use the terminal! Go me!), PW did not work. It installed fine, it would even launch but

rsync --delete isn't deleting files
I had this working on an older version, since 2.6.9 that when I set --delete and --dry-run, I get no "Deleting ******" lines. Also, the --delete-before never worked for me. Working on a space constrained mirror, this has proven very handy, when it works. What's up with the new versions? I haven't changed a thing. Best regards, Tiago Marques

Preventing Wine from creating shortcuts
Hey, I'm new to the forums but by no means a noob but it's come to the point lately where I'm creating scripts (bash mixed with autoit) where I create a new bottle, silently install the program and then do any fixes etc in the script making it all completely automated (as i tend to re-install my system a lot) The issue I'm having though is the shortcuts wine creates Desktop

Wine Icons
I'm having a little bit of trouble locating where all the icons used in wine are. I'm trying to make shortcuts, but it doesn't always let me find the file that I need, so if somebody knows, I'd like to know the location of the icons.

Unable to map more than 4 workspaces to keyboard shortcuts on C7.
Hi, I have a new install of c7 with the gnome desktop. I run it with 12 workspaces. Normally I create the shortcuts so that ctrl+f1 maps to workspace 1 ctrl+f2 maps to f2, etc. When I goto applications -> settings -> keyboard -> shortcuts -> navigation, I only have the ability to define "Switch to workspace" 1 through 4. There does not appear to be a way to map keyboard

Gnome's profiles tool?
Hi all, I'm looking for a tool to create and manage the users' profiles in GNOME desktop environment. I've searched Pessulus (included in GNOME admin tools by default according GNOME docs) whitout success. I've tried to compile Sabayon (the CentOS rpm is not avaiable I think) but there are a lot of dependencies to resolve. ?Any ideas? Thanks in advance. -- Jordi Espasa
