ExecShield in C6 or C7 kernels?
I'm trying to figure out if the stock kernels for Centos-6 and/or Centos-7 have ExecShield compiled in, and if so, if it is turned on by default. On my local C7 box I've been looking at/for indicators without a lot of success: /usr/lib/sysctl.d/00-system.conf. does not mention ExecShield at all. /proc/sys/kernel has no entries for exec_shield no mention of execshield in any of the files

Does Centos kernel support usb w/ UASP ?
Looking to buy a new usb-attached RAID box for nightly backups, and I see that many of them now support usb 3.1 with UASP. Looking at add-in usb 3.1 cards (my motherboard is probably too old, and only supports usb 3.0) to go with it, but don't know if the old kernel RH/Centos uses supports UASP. Chipset dependent? If one can trust the product images on Amazon, most of them use an asmedia

Happy new years everyone
hi, 2012 has been a great and eventful year for CentOS, the project. CentOS the Linux Distribution and for everyone involved, including the users. Along with new initiatives, lots of new relationships came up - and most of all, lots of new people stepped up to help in various corners of the project. Hope to see even more new efforts kicking off in 2013 and even more people getting involved.

openssl with FIPS140-2 ??
I see that CentOS does not provide the FIPS140-2 package for openSSL. I don't know if RH provides it or not. Can someone advise me on the best way to get it onto a CentOS or RHEL system, without breaking things? I'd also appreciate ANY related wisdom that's available, having pretty much NO wisdom of my own. thanks! Fred -- ---- Fred Smith -- fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us

Procmail/Formail problem on 6.3
Hi! In the process of making mysystem work again, having just done a reinstall of 6.3 x86_64. I have a considerable collection of procmail recipes for filtering mail in various ways, and since the upgrade none of 'em is working. procmail passes every mail thru spambayes, which gives back a rating on spamminess. this happens, so it's not as if procmail is simply punting. that is

another bizarre thing...
Is this on both EL6 and EL7? If only EL7, it could be control groups causing the issue. The idea of cgroups is to prevent zombie processes, but if you need your program to spawn another process then restart itself while the other process continues to run, you need to launch it in a different control group, or the shutdown of the parent process will also kill the child. In my case, we have an

Apple movie trailers on Centos6/Firefox
Hi all! Once again, Apple has messed with their trailers/website such that I can no longer play their trailers on Centos 6 (note that it still works fine on my two Fedora machines, F17 and F19, without any special settings. on Centos, I've long ago found that by setting the user agent to certain values I could make it work, but now that no longer helps. when I try to view a trailer all I get

FF3 printing problem on Centos 4.x
I'm using Centos 4.x (fully up to date) on a system at work. I have also been using firefox 2 (directly from mozilla.org) on it for a long time, and it tends to work just fine. yesterday I installed the new FF3 release. It works fine too, with one exception: The print dialog shows no printers! The print button is greyed out! There actually four or five printers defined on the system, and all
