alias method spec?
I am completely baffled by this one - My guess is that there is no pure ruby way to do this - but how could I set up a spec to test that one method is an alias of another? Thanks for any help, Scott

step definitons to check login
I am working with the authlogic gem and trying to create a simple login test from cucumber features. The feature statement is: Given the user is not logged in The step definition for this is confounding me. In the application_controller the authlogic tutorial recommends the following: private def require_user unless current_user store_location flash[:notice] =

it_should_behave_like
I''m trying to use it_should_behave_like, and something seems to be wonky with the syntax. When I add :shared=>true, the DSL complains that the next line is the fixture declaration: /vendor/plugins/rspec/lib/spec/dsl/behaviour_eval.rb:137:in `method_missing'': undefined method `fixtures'' for #<Spec::DSL::EvalModule:0x324a2cc> (NoMethodError) Here''s the

Testing file upload (Sinatra, RSpec, Rack-Test)
Hi. I have a simple application and I want to add a file upload functionality. How can I write a spec? Here''s my try. # directory structure app: - controller.rb - controller.spec.rb - files: [] - fixtures: [test_file.png] # controller.spec.rb require ''rack/test'' require ''controller'' module MyHelpers def app Sinatra::Application end end

What do you think of this controller spec?
Here''s a controller spec I wrote, it''s for a very simple RESTful controller (well, aren''t all RESTful controllers simple? :) I''ve created a couple spec helper methods to refactor some of the common code...for example, require_login_and_correct_user creates two specifications: one for when the user isn''t logged in, and one when the user is logged in but

Examples of writing controller specs that use authentication
Hello, I''m working on specs for a controller that handles authentication using the restful_authentication plugin. I''m trying to find a resource (tutorial or examples, if possible) about the best way to go about writing mocks and specs to make sure that things like my before_filters are working correctly. Does anyone know of any good resources for this? Thanks, Les

Specs and Libs
How would I go about writing specs for a lib, particularly one with all protected and private methods. I''m trying to spec the AuthenticatedSystem library from the rails restful_authentication plugin: http://pastie.caboo.se/103625 Also, when you''re mocking objects, a side-effect is helping you define the api of the object. Is there a way to get all the behaviors that

stubbing helper methods for View specs
Hi there I have several view specs, that include the following snippet in their "before" block to stub the methods by acts_as_authenticated before :each do @u = mock_model(User) @u.should_receive(:name).and_return("Hans Muster") template.should_receive(:logged_in?).and_return(true) template.should_receive(:current_user).and_return(@u) end this

[ rspec-Patches-9605 ] Patch for ER 9472, shared behaviour
Hi all - I''ve applied (to trunk) Bob Cotton''s patch which supports shared behaviours (link to tracker below). I''m still toying w/ names, so please be aware that until this is released w/ 0.9 it should be considered experimental and there will NOT be translation support for it. It will definitely be included in some form - just the names (specifically

role based authorization question
I am using the the authorization recipe outlined in Rails Recipes. Is it possible for one role, say ''admin'', to have access to every action on every controller without explicitly having to create a Right for each? I know this will not work as is, and to force it to do so would violate MVC, but is there some other way to accomplish having something like this in a controller:

Stubbing authentication across multiple controllers
Hi, I''m new to RSpec, so I''m not too sure of the best practises in stubbing. I was thinking along the lines of including a helper method that would stub out a users id and posts to sessions/create. It works fine when speccing SessionsController, but of course it fails when it is included into other controllers specs, because of the post. I''ve tried posting to an

Problem with RSpec and Mocha/Stubba
I''ve recently upgraded to the latest versions of Mocha and RSpec (0.3.2 and 0.6.3 respectively) and I''m no longer able to use Mocha/ Stubba with RSpec. Its actually only Stubba I''m interested in as I use RSpec''s built-in mocking library. I require stubba in my spec file but whenever I try and run my spec it fails with the error: Unintialized constant

Hello - I''m currently trying to write some specs for my rails views. My views depend upon the restful authentication plugin method logged_in? Just upgraded to 1.0.0, should render_text isn''t working for me
I finally got around to upgrading from 0.8.2 (!!). I had a spec which looked like specify "should render abc123" do controller.should_render :text => "abc123" get :key end With 1.0.0, the new spec is it "should render abc123" do get :key response.should render_text("abc123") end However it doesn''t work, giving me the error: undefined
