Replacement for Linux-HA (heartbeat) - RedHat cluster?
Hello, I'm beginning to give up on making Linux-HA's heartbeat work for my environment (CentOS x86_64) and am wondering what other option have I got to help me: 1. Use IPVS to maintain a cluster of virtual servers, either master/slave or load-balanced. 2. Use DRBD in master/slave fashion to keep a home-grown application highly-available. The first thing I stumbled upon is RedHat Cluster

Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks, I've followed a set of instructions I found on http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting. I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I followed the

Bonding modes
I have a bonded interface running in mode 1 which is active/passive and no issue with this. I need to change it to mode 0 for active/active setup. Does mode 0 is dependent on the switches configuration? My setup is: 2 links from bonded interface is connected to different switches. When I change to mode0 from mode1 , bond0 is not coming up. These are the steps I performed 1) changed to options

10Gbit ethernet
If I could ask question about 10Gbit ethernet.... We have a 70 node cluster built on Centos 5.1, using NFS to mount user home areas. At the moment the network is a bottleneck, and it's going to get worse as we add another 112 CPUs in the form of two blade servers. To help things breath better, we are considering building three new NFS servers, and connecting these and the blade servers

WINS server DMB and LMBs not communicating across subnet to update browse lists?
Referencing: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/network_administration_guides/samba_reference_guide/17_NetworkBrowsing_34.html I've got two subnets (192.168.2.1 and 192.168.1.1). All the machines on both subnets are running XP Home or Pro and are all part of the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). I've added an OpenSUSE box on x.x.2.1 and have set it as the WINS server with a very simple

Remote Registry Changes
Heyho. I'm trying to add registry entries to my workstations remotely from my server. I can currently do this remotely from any other workstation, using the standard Windows regedt32, but I'd like to do it form the server. .. The server is Samba 3.0.22-r3 on a Gentoo server. I've been digging around for a while now, and have managed to find docs for samba-tng which seem to

Opinions on bonding modes?
I am working on setting up an NFS server, which will mainly serve files to web servers, and I want to setup two bonds. I have a question regarding *which* bonding mode to use. None of the documentation I have read suggests any mode is "better" than other with the exception of specific use cases (e.g. switch does not support 802.3ad, active-backup). Since my switch *does* support

bonding and ifcfg config
Hi, I'd like to bond two existing interfaces and checked the RH EL 6.3 [1] doc. Comparing the current settings of e.g. eth0 to the example config in the docs I wonder what options I still have to use/copy and which I can drop. e.g. what should happen to my RH 6.3 eth0 settings not in the docs? Set an Ethernet Interface Metric
Hello All, I ended up answering my own question, but figured I'd share this and open up for discussion. It is possible to set a metric with 'route' or `ip route`. What I'm wondering is if there's a Red Hat/CentOS way of assigning a metric in the network-scripts? Answer: [0] (from 2008) works. ex: METRIC=10 Deployment Guides: EL5 [1] and EL6 [2] do not mention metrics on

samba 3.3 - poor performance (compared to NFS)
I have a system that I'm vetting as a NAS server. It has a 2.0TB XFS filesystem mounted on /storage and I'm doing benchmarks using nfs3, nfs4, and samba. I'm testing via iozone by mounting the filesystem from my "nas client" box and then running iozone on the mounted filesystem. NFS seems pretty fast - ie, several orders of magnitude faster than samba, and I'm

adding static route via network setup fails
I want to add the following route command route add -net 192.168.2.0/27 gw 192.168.2.3 via the normal network setup. The result should be the following routing table (the first line): 192.168.2.0/27 via 192.168.2.3 dev xenbr1 scope link 192.168.2.0/27 dev eth2 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.4 192.168.2.0/27 dev xenbr1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.3 192.168.1.0/24 dev xenbr0
